Re: Teams in National League North for next season

Isn't there a rule that you don't have to move divisions within 3 years of your last move? Worcester were given such an exemption preventing them being moved back to the North a few years ago. Gloucester went from North to South in 2017-18, so they might be within their rights to refuse to move. Gl...

Re: Darlington FC fightback victories

Coming from 2 down at home to Hartlepool to win 5-2. McClean in the tin shed end before half time then 4 from Alan Walsh in the Polam end in the second half. About 1981 I think. Also coming from 3-1 down at Salford to win 4-3 has got to be worth a shout. The Pools 5-2 was the first one coming to mi...

Re: 40 years ago today . . .

Compulsory Identity Cards for football fans (including Division 4) were legislated for and ready to go when Lord Peter Taylor of Gosforth published the Taylor Report a...

Re: Evostik playoffs

Moved again. Semis tomorrow, final Monday. By my reckoning that's the fourth different set of dates. And Stourbridge have had to cede home advantage in the semis. Indeed - Stourbridge finished 3rd so were at home in the playoffs, but because of 4 days of faffing around by the Southern League and FA...

Re: Evostik playoffs

Bit of an issue with the super playoff - both of the Evostik Southern semi-finals tomorrow have been postponed because of a possible ineligible player at one of the clubs (Stratford). Kings Lynn, Alvechurch and Stourbridge not happy, especially Stour whose ground gets handed over to Stourbridge Cric...

Re: Nuneaton....

From the deafening silence from those who attended the match do I assume that Mr Caton did not give a Franz von Werra experience to make anyone have regrets. Caton did not have a memorable debut and was subbed in the second half. Agree with all the comments about two poor teams (and a ref who was e...

Re: Jake Turner - New Signing

I think James Speare is the worst goalkeeper I’ve ever seen play for Darlo. Yes, even worse than Ashlee Jones. Now that we're on this subject, how about: Martin McGrother - 1986, had to play when Mike Astbury was cuptied. Let one in through his legs in the FACup first round when we beat Mansfield 2...

Alan Walsh's son Phil played against Darlo in the final Conference season, for Hayes & Yeading. Looked just like his dad. The game also featured Jordan Pickford.

They don't play in Kettering any more (where we played them at Rockingham Road in our first Conference season) - they're now in Burton Latimer (home of Weetabix)

Re: National League System - Re-Structure from 18/19

So, they’re adding a third southern division? How’s that going to help the north south feeds into the national leagues??? No, they're adding a midlands (central) league at step 3. The wording is mis-leading as its the Southern Premier League who'll be running the league but it'll cover those clubs ...

My favourite manager was Cyril Knowles. Recruited amazingly well all the Boro/Newcastle/Sunderland cast-offs on a shoestring and built them in to a fabulous team. Ironically those cast-offs then went and beat Boro in the FA Cup. Should never have been sacked as we just couldn't afford to keep the c...

The Plymouth game in 84 - away end was open and it rained all afternoon. Has to be said that Trinity were miles better than either Worcester or Stalybridge. So to fight back from two goals down was a good battling performance - heads did not drop and it was no surprise to get the equaliser. We were certainly worth the point, and with a full squad to select from after tod...

Both sides were off the pace in the first half, but Darlo took their chances. In the second half Boston changed formation and had most of the possession but the Darlo back 4 and keeper were all in great form. Pitch was very heavy and sanded so both sides preferred to hoof it. Big penalty shout late ...
