Re: Darlington FC V Spennymoor match thread

Harvey Saunders has been on trial at Barnsley recently for a few weeks. They wanted to have a look at him.

Re: FCUM v Darlington Match Thread

Darlo were superb in the first half and should have scored 3 or 4. Styche missed 2 sitters which would have put the game beyond FCUM's reach at half time. They played some excellent free-flowing football, worked really hard and dominated in the first half. Second half was a bit scrappy but Darlo wer...

Dave Syers

I thought he was brilliant yesterday against FCUM especially in the first half.

Everything that Darlo created seemed to come from Syers.

Also a lot of his hard work and effort goes unnoticed, but it so vital to the team.

An excellent performance from a player who sometimes is undervalued by many.

My interview with Martin Gray

Hi all. I post here from time to time and write for the Non-League Paper. I interviewed Martin for the Non-League Paper after the Salford game and everything seemed all set for a big season at Darlo. I know results haven't been good of late but I am very surprised at Gray leaving at this time, after...

From a friend who has been a Tranmere season ticket holder for many years.

"I think he's brilliant. Well, he was last season before he got injured. Mickey Mellon refuses to use wingers so he's not needed"

Re: Josh Gillies

Gillies is like Thomson in that he is good when Darlo are winning and playing well, but when a shift is needed and sleeves need rolling and he has to track back, then he goes missing.

Re: Martin Gray

I like Martin Gray and what he has done for DFC. He has been brilliant and I hope he is around for a good few years to come.

My only criticism of him is that he tinkers with the formation too much and does not play players in their best position.

Re: All Over the Place

You are going to have good and bad days and yes the standard of this league is pretty good, but what I feel isn't helping us is this continuing playing players out of position and playing players who are simply not good enough for this level, when you have better players sat on the bench.

Re: Chorley v Darlington

The constant changing of the formation from game to game and several times during the game isn't helping at all either. Too much trying to be clever with the formation instead of having a formation that suits the players you have. Gillies, Thommo will not track back yet we are playing 3 in midfield ...

Re: Chorley v Darlington

Midfield keeps getting overrun as there are too many players not prepared to put in a shift and track back. This means the defence is overworked and wide open.

Down the flanks today, Chorley have had 2 onto 1 all night.

All Over the Place

Watching the first half at Chorley and Darlo are all over the place. Players looking at each other as if they have never played in the same side before. Players looking confused with the formation. Players looking at the manager and wondering what they are supposed to be doing. Changes to the format...

Re: Southport v Darlo Match Thread

Caton, Gillies, Thompson, Syers, all running into the same areas and not doing enough with the knock-ons from Beck. All were below par today especially in the second half.

A tale of 2 halves

First half Darlo were the better side and should have been ahead, perhaps even out of sight. The Southport keeper made some good saves but the Darlo forward line looked short of confidence. Plenty of chances created but not put away. Some fine football played by Darlo with Gillies putting in some gr...

Re: Cartman available for loan

He looked a bit down at the end of the game at Salford, stood outside the changing rooms.

He's been a great servant to Darlo, but with Caton now signed I don't think Carts would get many starts.

Solid, well-organised & deserving winners

Just got back home from Salford after a very enjoyable trip. Darlo were really good. Playing a 4-4-2, with the wingers tucked-in worked perfectly. All the Darlo players looked ready for the season and well-prepared. They looked sharper than Salford throughout the game and were very well organised an...

He worked hard again today, but the confidence doesn't seem to be there in front of goal.

He had a great chance in the second half, but put it wide.

Re: Chorley v Darlo Match Thread

Very entertaining game which on clear-cut chances Darlington should have won.

No weak links in the team today, all the players put in a good shift.

With better finishing it could have been a good 3 points.

How did we not win that match against Chorley

Just got home from the Chorley match and still cannot believe how Darlo did not win that game. Lots of chances for Darlo, a few one-on-ones with the goalkeeper and several attempts cleared off the line by Chorley defenders. Darlo looked threatening all game with Thommo particularly effective with fl...

Re: Stockport Match Thread

Thommo took his goal well but he's a luxury even at this level. He doesn't track back very often, meaning that there is one less midfielder and that exposes the defence time and again whether it's 4-4-2 or 4-3-1-2.

Hard fought but lucky point

Just got home from today's match. Firstly credit to the team and management for having the spirit to come back from being behind 3 times. Stockport will wonder just how they didn't get all 3 points though. They largely controlled the game, were quicker to the loose ball, had more pace and energy tha...

Re: Long distance fans

Supported Darlo for over 30 years.

I moved to Liverpool due to work in 1998 but have still followed the team whenever and wherever I can.

Pleased to see at least 6 or 7 away games in the North West next season.

Rushall versus Darlington

It wasn't a big surprise to see Darlington looking a bit leg-weary yesterday. Several of the players looked extremely tired and short of energy after a hectic end to the season. Some of the Darlington players looked off the pace especially in the first half, but credit to them they kept going to the...

The Rushall pitch

I guess that had to be one of the worst pitches in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League?

I was just relieved that no player from either team suffered a serious injury on that terrible surface.

Trouble at Rushall

Sad to see a few Darlington fans making what appeared to be monkey noises before the match and directed at one of the black players for the opposition today. From where I was stood it looked like the police escorted some of them out at the start of the match. However it was equally ridiculous to see...

Back from Nantwich

Fantastic result after a shaky first 20 minutes. Darlington started the match with what seemed like a 4-3-1-2 formation which frankly did not work. Nantwich looked sharper and exploited Darlington's uncertainty in midfield in the first 20 minutes. They should have taken the lead but a one-on-one cha...

Job done in Marine

Just got home from the match at Marine. A good 3 points against a team that were in all honesty very poor and lacking ideas. Horrible conditions with sleet and a strong wind. Certainly not conditions to play neat and tidy football. Darlo were solid at the back with Brown outstanding, the full backs ...

Re: Ashton United v Darlington Match Thread

First half Darlo were a mess at the back when trying to play the off-side trap. However once they gave up on the off-side trap Darlo looked a lot better, especially after the equaliser. Their number 9 was the only threat and I thought Darlington deserved the win in the end.
