Re: FC United

From just skimming over the surface of what is going on at FC United and their fall from grace this year, after just about surviving last year, I do begin to fear that this could be Darlo in 12 months time. Less money, lower quality players, a tendency to crumble at home. We may be grateful that the...

Re: Darlington V Stockport

The clear difference between the end of last season and this is the almighty boost that having a reliable goalscorer in your team can make. Had we been able to keep Nelson until the end of the season we would probably be finishing on a high and well away from the drop zone. We badly need someone to ...

Re: Darlington V Chester

Getting away from the discussion on the ramifications of last night's result, and returning to the scene of the crime, I think that the most obvious thing about this and several other home games this season, is the capacity to go a goal down and have no ability to find a way back into the game. How ...

Re: Tonight’s games

I hope we do get something out of tonight's game as a draw would restore the 10 point gap with one less game to go. So if we were positive about the state of affairs after Saturday's result we should be even more happy with this. A win, however, would give us a four game advantage over FC United, wh...

Re: New Signing

Whilst being just as interested as the next man at hearing we are bringing in fresh blood to make sure we survive this season, is it churlish to be a bit wary of how this is being managed? To explain, a few weeks ago we had a push to get the 500 club extensions made to plug a gap in the finances to ...

Re: Nuneaton....

Holness seems a good find, believe it’s his first game in a few months. I bet he’s on a massive contract to get him to play for us. No hope of seeing him next year, but we can hope! I worry about our centre half’s, Ainge and Galbraith is not a good pairing. I hope Tommy goes with 4 at the back from...

From the deafening silence from those who attended the match do I assume that Mr Caton did not give a Franz von Werra experience to make anyone have regrets.

I noticed that the predictive text on here tried to convert Holness to Holiness on me as well. May be a sign that we are going to get some much needed divine intervention to see us safely through to the end of the season. I can only hope and pray.

Re: Nuneaton....

Hopefully Holness will be better once he gets into his stride but that will be interrupred when he has to serve his ban for the sending off. I assume that will be the Stockport game where we could have done with a bit more strength in midfield. But we did OK there last year when we had Mitch Glover ...

Re: Piece on us in the new When Saturday Comes

Should it's written by Harry Pearson, one of my favourite sports writers and author of the Far Corner, absolutely indispensable book on north-east football. I read that many years ago, long before we ended up joining the ranks of the one man and his dog leagues that it describes. A wonderfully evoc...

Re: Williams Kokolo

There seems to have been a reluctance on TW's part to use this lad, but having already lost O'Hanlon, we have a gap on that side of the defence. Saturday saw Henshall as wing-back, and Elliott has also played there with slightly more success. Perhaps TW will play Elliott there again and make space f...

But the most worrying thing was the crowd and the general apathy which seems to have swept over the entire club. When was the last time we had a 3 figure crowd in Darlington for a league match? I fear we are watching the slow decline of Darlington Football Club unfolding before our eyes. It's a vic...

Re: Darlington V Brackley

I would additionally chip in to my earlier post that had we had a Nelson playing last night there might have been a chance of capitalising on some of the approach play of the first half. Scoring the first goal would have changed the dynamic of the game and made a whole pile of difference to the way ...

Re: Darlington V Brackley

Hurworth, we have a problem. We began the season with the idea that adding to the existing firepower of Styche and Syers, which had proved pretty effective, with the alternative outlet of Ainge would give an extra dimension to our attack. This was largely the basis on which it was projected that we ...

Re: ''Donation” scheme

Thanks for that. I do understand the idea of having a general, undefined fund such as this donation scheme, with the rather more gentle purpose of getting small amounts in when people feel like it, rather like the buckets at the gates when people come into the ground. But I still think that, rather ...

Re: ''Donation” scheme

It is probably because I'm getting too old and confused to take all the latest info in, but we currently have this donation scheme live, and we now, also, have the 500 club renewal, which offered members a one year extension, which they may choose to offer as a donation. The donation scheme that is ...

The last few posts have been about the impact of the 500 club and a possible further extension. Re: Darlington v Bishop Auckland

I don't think he scored any/many more goals for Blyth, which rather backed up the opinion that MG had of him, which seemed to be that he could be brilliant but too often disappeared and added nothing to the team effort, which was not going to get him brownie points with Mr Gray.

Kneeshaw could rip this league up if he gets his attitude right. Following this thread is getting much like Brexit. Many different solutions to an, as yet, inponderable problem. There seems to be many opinions but few facts. There seems to be a conundrum over how we fit all the available players, and more particularly the loanees, into a starting line up. Perhaps we should remind ourselves of the reliance on academy players to fill the bench for such a long period earlier in the season. It was clear from the few times t...

When Nelson was at the club we had that little bit extra that looked to be taking us well clear of the drop zone. We are still playing well, but Kidderminster aside, the goals have begun to dry up. This wouldn't be tragic if the defence could close games out but we always seem to find a way to give ...

Talking of the defence, I thought Ainge had a great game and was slightly unlucky that Thommo is also in great form and is more likely to catch the eye up front. As with Saturday we just didn't manage to find a killer second goal, but even despite that the team looked comfortably in control until 60...

Match report: We played well for 80 minutes against an absolutely dire Hartlepool Reserves side. Missed loads of chances to seal the win before handing them the game with two dreadful defensive lapses near the end, thus deflating 1,700 fans who turned up at BM. Still, the tie did feature the word C...

Thommo has 89 but the Walsh record is 100, so still 11 short.
