DJ mentioned at the AGM that the players could train whilst on furlough*.
Disclaimer: I may have mis-heard.
Players’ contracts will run until the end of May. We should be grateful furlough has been extended today as we would have had to find c£30k in May to pay the players otherwise.

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
Their first goal was embarrassing (just watched it back). I don’t mind the original mistake, but there is little attempt by Sousa to regain possession, Hedley doesn’t block off the runner, Hunt doesn’t go with the runner and then the goalscorer starts off behind Liddle and ends up 5 yards in front. ...

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
No way will Laing or Holmes be leaving. Sent from my moto g(6) play using Tapatalk Maybe not leave fully, but it will be very hard to justify giving both contracts in the summer given Laing will be out until the New Year and Holmes has suffered the same serious knee injury twice. I am confident bot...

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
Unusual for Darlogramps and I to agree but there is no way Campbell should be released. His best position is behind the striker which he has hardly played this season. His vision and movement is sometimes at a higher level than the others and got him into some fantastic positions last year. Our pla...

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
I enjoy being controversial at times so here is a suggestion that might cause some discussion. Release Campbell. Reason 1. Not really an effective enough striker because of his size. Maguire and Charman look like our most potent strikers when fit and could be the way to go next season. Reason 2. We...

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
We have the basis of a good squad at this level; Retain on a contract: McMahon, Hedley, Storey, Liddle, Watson, Hatfield, Wheatley, Reid, Rivers, Sousa, Charman, Campbell, Maguire Retain on a non-contract basis: Laing (ACL/MCL injury), Atkinson, Holmes (ACL injury) Sign: GK, CB (x2) & CM. Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
As the evening's moved on I've become a tad annoyed about this result today, as we've missed such a good opportunity here  The reoccurring problem with this present team is that we can't beat the scrappy, men behind the ball type teams that turn up at Blackwell Meadows, yet we can quite ...

Re: Darlington V Hornchurch Trophy Quarter Final
And what about up front? Are we happy with the forwards we have? We appeared to be missing Charman today. So what is the answer when he cannot play? And against sides that have big no nonsense defenders do we need a bid no nonsense attacker to mix things up and provide a plan B? We can bring in a l...

Re: Season null and voided
It isn’t as simple as that. Unlike you or I, players have other employers in their ear, offering them £50+ more a week and a signing on fee. This was typified in the Croasdale case last summer. Like I said, football is a completely different market compared to general employment. If players want to ...

Re: Season null and voided
Does the 20% have to be found? We are not legally-bound to do so, but failure to provide the 20% top-up would allow the players to terminate their contracts and leave for free. Are you sure of this? Yes. Ryan Croasdale terminated his contract with Fylde over the summer under similar circumstances. ...

Re: Season null and voided
What happens when the government stop the furlough scheme? Who pays the players wages then? I think we may have to pay the players/management in May in full, and find the funds to top-up the players/management wages by 20% in Feb, March & April. Although, I am unsure what occurs to players contract...

Re: Season null and voided
The right decision has been made. Well done the club for making the right call and continuously backing other clubs that were in a similar position to us.
Conscious is now clear for the FA Trophy tie. The league would have been null & voided anyway, regardless of our vote.

Re: Board Statement 15 Feb
To then switch the lights back on for a chance at Wembley does not particularly sit right (unless Step 2 becomes N&V before the tie is played). Conversely. If we have cut our costs by furloughing (I think DJ mentioned we have in an interview the other day with another club chairman) then there is a...

Re: Legal challenge?
Clubs taking on loans in their hundreds of thousands would also result in redundancies in the medium & long-term.
In the immediate short-term there is the furlough scheme to safeguard jobs until the end of April.
His argument does not stack up.

Re: Board Statement 15 Feb
I think we have to go as far as we can in the TROPHY, it's FA competition rules ,which are different from national league rules, I am led to believe. Financial rewards no matter how small is money into the club, the national league has no grant funding so no money comes into the club , The national...

DF97. It’s tricky I agree. I know others who aren’t happy about this cup/league situation but I think DJ is being strong and keeping our options open. We’re not in a popularity contest here and it could work out okay(ish) Yes, as a club we have played it brilliantly so far and have stood up for not...

Re: Board Statement 15 Feb
So, effectively, we will stop playing league fixtures from now, but we will come back if there is a sniff of making some money. Isn't this the point of all football. It is not played for esoteric reasons but in the hope that success will lead to pounds in the bank. Some will search for that in a pr...

TOFC, I see other points too. I am playing devils advocate. My posts are only with the worry that perhaps the club’s reputation will take a hit should it selectively choose which fixtures to play, and also find itself in a difficult position in front of an independent panel, explaining why it didn’t...

Re: Board Statement 15 Feb
I doubt we'd even make money out of playing the Trophy game, we'd probably just break even. The point being that we would like to play football without endangering the future financial stability of the club. The trophy, we can. If we continue in the league, we will drive the club into debt. That's ...

Re: Board Statement 15 Feb
Disappointed to read some of these comments. We as a club are effectively suspending league fixtures on the basis of a lack of adequate funding and lack of testing. Yet what we would be doing by participating in the FA Trophy is incurring additional costs via player/management wages, rent, testing e...
