Re: Season at risk of finishing early
[Spenn 66 Its a bit like agreeing to buy a house, when you only have a job for 3 months and no employment agreed beyond that period. [/quote] You might go ahead on the basis that you could get another job, or that something might turn up. The key here is hope, something footie fans need lots of at t...

Re: Spennymoor away
Can’t help thinking that if you could put the best of Spennymoor and the best of Darlington together you would have a really strong club that could be going places. Basically the best of Spennymoor is Uncle Brad and his cash and ambition. The best of Darlington is the passion and commitment of the ...

Re: Shorter games ?
Have I just woken from winter hibernation on April 1st ? Wonderful if we could wake up on April 1 and be able to start looking forward. Maybe I'm over the top with this, but the possible consequences of the pandemic are so unpredictable and serious that football could be swept off the agenda comple...

Shorter games ?
 Just a thought but it might not be as daft as it sounds. Given the fixture congestion, which could easily worsen, a game of 80 minutes could address the problems of fatigue and consequent injury and maybe even some incentive for shot-shy teams to through caution to the winds. Basically the am...

Re: Forgotten New year day fixtures
New Years Day 1983, Bootham Crescent; York City 5 Quakers 2. A great game and a very misleading score line. York were top at the time and soon scored - more home goals were expected but Tony McFadden equalised directly from the kick-off with a solo run and for a while we made a game of it with Alan ...

Re: Jason Ainsley
I think Gray would be a good appointment for Spennymoor and if he has retired they could try to persuade him. For all his charmless ways he knew how to get success at this level - he nearly got us up in our first season in this league - and having done penance he deserves another chance.

Lance left a big impression on Peter Shilton too - League Cup 1968 - so just maybe it was playing on his mind when he went up with Marradona for that ball.

Re: Ex Darlo players -unsporting behaviour?
The Alan White incident put me right off him even thoughh he was a good defender. Dave Speedie.was a very good player but he was a dirty one. I also have it on good authority that he was a wind up merchant can't think of anything specific but he must have pushed his luck with Gary Bennett when he li...

Re: Darlo v Gateshead
Why no Rivers in either eleven? I thought he was our best player on Saturday and was involved in our best moves goalward. This might be our most important game so far this season, if we stink the place out again at home we'll be singing if only this Christmas.

''But I think it's entirely factual to say he performed one of the biggest acts of cheating football has ever seen.'' I would disagree with this point, nobody was hurt - unlike the French lad so brutally assaulted by the German keeper at the previous World Cup, who also, incredibly, got away with it...

Good point - I think that would have made a big difference like Walsall away. Also, I believe it's a factor at home. That first goal today seemed to break us.

Re: Away to Bristol rovers
Well, I thought Rivers was excellent, Campbell too but it seems to me we gave the game away with some very poor stuff at the back. They weren't that good but we were way above our usual territory and it showed cruelly in the little things; like holding the ball and creating chances. It was good to s...

Re: Team v BPA
We will face the same thing every home game and we need a Plan B. Is it me or does our pitch seem narrow on Quaker TV. Possibly just the camera angle but at Guiseley and Alfreton we seemed to have loads of space on the flanks going forward but at home everything looks much narrower. Maybe we just pl...

So on this subject I'll throw this out there, but does anyone think we'd have benefitted more from playing at the Arena than Blackwell for home matches in terms of playing style and atmosphere in the current climate, it just seems to me that they don't seem as comfortable at Blackwell and more so wi...

I saw that Mr E and I reached similar conclusions recently about our form away from home and the possible impact of no supporters. Tuesday's results seem to bear this out - out of 19 games played more than half were away wins including all three EFL matches as well as our brilliant.outcome there wer...

Re: Darlington V Telford
 I wasn't able to see the game today but it sounds like it was another frustrating experience. I wonder if there might be a problem with no supporters present. The Meadows must be a cheerless place to play and the team has done so much better in unfamiliar settings at Curzon and Swindon and, ...

Re: Swindon away
They beat Sunderland and will be looking to beat us after our best ever cup result - the Trophy Win in 2011 against Mansfield, at Wembley. I accept that Sunderland might not be up to much at the moment but after Quakers I thought that was one of the best results of the round, along with 'plucky Salf...

Re: Swindon away
There is some cup history pre-history really. We won there in the cup in1965 when Jimmy Lawton starred we swapped him for Alan Sproates after the game. Not literally but it was canny business. Not an ideal tie but as Gps points out we said much the same about Walsall. I think we can bring Swindon ba...

:problem: :problem: From the comfort of my armchair it seems that the players have not been able to get in an effective pre-season. That might be forgivable under the circumstances but are other teams as sluggish and injury prone as Quakers seem to be at the moment? The 'must win' post concerning ye...

Re: Alan Walsh
:x  Walsh was wonderful. For years the brightest spark in some dull Quakers sides - it puzzled me why he stayed as long as he did though and why he seemed to enjoy, mostly, playing for us. My best memory of many is the home game with Bristol City in early 1983. Terry Cooper turned out for them...
