Re: Darlo v York

Its a rebuild season, just stay up and maybe just maybe win a cup game will do me this season. Some money from a cup run could boost funds a bit too. Fair comment I think. This time last year things started to go wrong with Stockport at home after a poor show but I think things can only get better ...

Re: Darlo v York

It's definitely possible to beat York on Saturday but if we don't I hope the discontent glimpsed on other threads doesn't build because my opinion is that despite not being much better off than this time last year we are in a much improved place and have had poor luck. We are fitter and look much mo...

Re: Away to Trafford in the FA Cup

Worth noting that Stratford Town won their qualifier 7-2 so at least we've avoided them. Wright might have mastered cup matches by now so if we get past Trafford it could happen. :o

Re: Darlington V Blyth

I was absolutely delighted with last night's victory however my one gripe is the amount of short corners we are taking and 50 per cent of the time screwing them up and wasting our advantage by losing possession rivers is one of the best crossers of a ball we have had in a long time so I wish he wou...

Re: Players past/present

Just something that’s probably been done 1000 times before but something I’ve been thinking about recently! Plus it takes away from some people’s negativity about the team at the minute. Answer all if you can and say something about your decision. Since leaving Feethams who has been: Worst Player W...

I was pleased to hear my suggestion for Quakers show-biz affiliations being followed up on Monday with Doris Day belting it out before the match - and in a way Doris is dead right; what will be will be. I believe AA has done so well to pick the club up that maybe, just sometimes, it's easy to be unr...

The thread seems to be taking in poor debuts. Does anyone else remember Roger Wicks in the early eighties? He was dubbed 'globetrotting' but his debut saw him subbed and the sparse crowd was able to hear Billy Elliot giving him a heartfelt suggestion where he could go next.

Mama Cass was a little known Darlo fan and drew inspiration from Ron Greener for her big hit ... Re: International duty

Perhaps we could ask for the games to be postponed, due to International call ups? Need to find at least 1 more international as you need a minimum of 3 players on international duty to get games called off I seem to remember a Quakers match deferred because Jason De Vos was playing for Canada. I t...

Re: Darlington V Southport

Liam Watson seems to suggest that they lost because we adapted to the wind better and they didn't come to terms with playing on a wide pitch. I think it was more that we played the better football and were just, well, better all over the pitch. Their only tactic seemed to be long throws and belting...

Was offered a lift to this game but couldn’t finish work early enough on reflection I’m glad I didn’t go. After three games I think it’s going to be an up and down season we need investment to compete for play off places. It could be an up and down campaign but I think most people knew that before ...

Re: Farsley V Darlington Match Thread

Some mitigating factors at Farsley; very poor pitch, Cartman was always going to score today, and maybe the feel good factor made for unrealistic hopes - the defense needs sorting out but at least that's a problem to be seen early on. We tried to play and the goal was good, he'll score a few more. W...

Re: Expectations 19/20

Having read the posts I think Super Les and Gramps have set things out sensibly. Staying in the top half would be great and would mean the play-offs wouldn't be a day dream but I can't help thinking promotion might be too much this season. If we can get a run in the cups it would generate income and...

A bit of a shocker this is, always is when someone not very old passes away suddenly - and makes me think of my own mortality and how quickly I can be snuffed out and not see it coming. Re: White gone

Having been very critical of AW I can't regret him going but I can see he's got credibility in non-league circles so should get fixed up. I think it's right that the club has now separated from the Wright era and in my view White was culpable for some of the chaos and inconsistency, particularly at ...

Lance was one of my favourite's and he was a top bloke with supporters. Most older fans will remember him in his two periods at the club. I recall him as guileful and prepared to put his foot in. Apparently Peter Shilton remembers him from a league cup tie at Feethams with Leicester City when Lance ...

I feel pleased for him - before he lost interest he was alright for Quakers and I think Boston might do something this season. York Street is a great day out and it's their last season there so I think it'll be a cracker this time.

I think Jimmy Seal did a milk round. This makes me think of the time when York were in the old second division and a few of their players came our way Eddie R and Seal but also John Stone who might have been the best of the lot. For want of ..... who was the best player we ever had from York?

I've just recalled a memory of Barry Hutchinson going into a betting shop on Cockerton Green in 1966/67. Can anyone else verify this or any other sightings of our ex-striker from the days when players had to supplement their wages. Wasn't Ray Yeoman a psycho-therapist on the side?

Fred Barber was the best keeper I think I've seen at Quakers and he wasn't a big fella. The better Darlo teams have always had a strong goalie and if this one turns out well we could do something. I would love it if we beat them - I would love it. The prices represent their ambition which is fair enough but they have to do it next season - they don't want to be Penney wise but pound foolish.

The position regarding Meadow Lane is that Notts. This plus the unpaid tax bill puts them in real difficulties so they might gr...

Notts are in a real spot of bother at the moment; unsettled tax, most of the team gone, uncertainty about the manager and almost certainly having to move ground. All that history means nothing now and they could wobble. Their experience of fans ownership a few years ago was mixed and there may not b...

Tony Kenworthy rings a bell - the Reg Brearley ship sailed some troubled waters and I think Kenworthy was his first mate. It's worth looking through old issues of Mission Impossible from the 90's where there is some very good coverage of what was going on.

Would he have fitted into that Quaker's team anyway? Reynolds had some daft ideas - he decided Tom Kaak would score 'a bagful of goals' and was better than Marco G. who was overweight and 'lacked mobility' which was rich.
