Re: Swindon away

There is some cup history pre-history really. We won there in the cup in1965 when Jimmy Lawton starred we swapped him for Alan Sproates after the game. Not literally but it was canny business. Not an ideal tie but as Gps points out we said much the same about Walsall. I think we can bring Swindon ba...

Re: Kidderminster Saturday October 10th

:problem: :problem: From the comfort of my armchair it seems that the players have not been able to get in an effective pre-season. That might be forgivable under the circumstances but are other teams as sluggish and injury prone as Quakers seem to be at the moment? The 'must win' post concerning ye...

Re: Alan Walsh

:) Fred's debut away at league leaders Hull was sensational - we held them to nil-nil draw largely due to him then beat Pools the following Weds. March 83 I think. Fred got a mention in the nationals as the Observer covered the Hull match. Better than Prudhoe?

Re: Alan Walsh

:x  Walsh was wonderful. For years the brightest spark in some dull Quakers sides - it puzzled me why he stayed as long as he did though and why he seemed to enjoy, mostly, playing for us. My best memory of many is the home game with Bristol City in early 1983. Terry Cooper turned out for them...

Re: Our greatest night

A slightly perverse choice for me would be a damp Tuesday night in February 1983. Quakers were bottom and getting gates around 1000 - it might have been a worse team than the one David Frost watched. The game was Tranmere at home and it was dire stuff untill about the 80th minute when Alan Walsh sto...

Re: Former players

Talk about in search of lost time. Its interesting that we're going back quite a way and mention of Pev really does uncover some memories; I was at both the Watford game and the Chester one - Ken Hale's rather forgotten now but he was good and stuck around when things turned sour in the early sevent...

Re: Former players

Good to see Brian Conlon and Alan Sproates. Getting a mention - great Quakers both. I'd pick a defender and the original Joe Jacques was as good as anyone we've had, of a more recent vintage Phil Lloyd

Yes it was Welling - thanks for that. They've fallen a bit since then, a shame really. It's nice to remember and I'm sure we'll savour some stuff from this season like Walsall and York away - I hope they come through all this.

Re: Darlington V Farsley

Hadn't Elliot been playing well lately? Also Syers was also going to make his point. Given the circumstances we shouldn't get too blue about this result because I suspect all bets are going to be off for most football folk for a while. Our club has a big heart and we'll need it again. Peace and love...

Re: Telford

I never really got over Telford putting us out of the cup in 1985 then singing 'nice one Cyril' very loudly through the dressing room walls so as far as I'm concerned we should always beat them. A great result nevertheless which keeps our season alive. I also feel Campbell has had some unfair commen...

Telford

Quakers can and should win this. The slight dissppointment over recent results would feel better as it does a bit after Herefords turn out at York. Come back with three points and it's still there for us.

Re: Retention for next year

Re Thommo - I feel at some stage he could be in line for a testimonial match. You don't get many of these now because most footballers are on such a good wage but with Thommo, because of the length of time he's been with us, his importance in this time and his effort/attitude and goals, then surely...

Boston Away

Lets have a Boston thread. Well I'd say our toughest game for a while, apparently York were well beaten after finding some form against Chester. However, it's often said that Darlo rise to occasions like this and the performance at Kidderminster was encouraging. The brilliant away support should hel...

The Darlo Varieties

I've noticed a few references to the teams tendency to hit a bad patch after going well for a longer period. This has been attributed to a quirk of Alan Armstrongs management as it seemed to happen when he was at Blyth. There will be a few factors involved but Saturdays performance was like the poor...

Re: Jason Kennedy

Wouldn't we be better off finding a younger player who plays now like Jason did then ? It rarely goes well for 'second spells' especially after this length of time - I can only think of Lance Robson who really managed the trick. Also, the players we have are good enough.

[quote=super_les_mcjannet post_id=458250 time=1579769359 user_id=6209 Be good to keep Trotman beyond this season, however if he leaves then I am sure it gives a decent chunk of budget back into the pot. Who knows what will happen but for now he isn't part of our squad so good luck to him. [/quote] A...

 All bets are off now. Digging out a result at Guisley in mid-week in January is promotion form. There's a brilliant vibe at the club and I think we can do it higher up.on the evidence of those cup.games. The fans who are diaryng the play offs know the score.

I think the above post puts things into perspective but I think we should go for it and finish as well as we can in preparation for next season If that turns out to be in a higher division we can give it a go - as long as we keep AA and co. My caution is based on painful experiences of relegation bu...

The playoffs are very much on. They barely laid a glove on us in the second half and we seem to have good reliable options all over as in the successful switch of Reid to defence. We deserve better crowds... National League here we come :D It's wonderful to see the team playing so well - better tha...

This is the stage for Thommo to smash home his 100th goal. May be useful if he could grab a hat-trick and Reid score his debut goal as well😁
Yes he deserves this and a big crowd to applaud him. Even though he's played at a lower Stephen would be a contender for my 'best of' post 1990 team.
