Re: General Election 2019

It wouldn't surprise me if Labour back PR at some point in the future. No system is perfect, but I think overall PR is a fairer electoral system than FPTP.

Re: General Election 2019

Proportional representation would be a disaster, as no party would ever gain a majority to govern. Coalitions just mean compromise & nothing meaningful ever gets done. Look at Belgium, I think their government comprises about 7 parties, a constitutional nightmare. First past the post should be kept...

Re: Simply not good enough

I've no real concerns about the overall direction we are heading in, even if things have been disappointing since Walsall. It's pretty clear that our cup exploits have really taken it out of the players, and, as pointed out by everyone, we are missing that striker to lead the line and to bring other...

Re: Darlington V Telford

We can criticise our defence for switching off completely, while still feeling aggrieved the officials didn't spot the ball wasn't stationary at the taking of the free kick. Defence failing to do the basics, the referee failing to do the basics. Anyway, one of our best 45 mins of the season, and one...

Re: Solihull Moors Away - FA Trophy 1st Rnd

Another bankrolled full time tin pot made up club. Fuck off. I had it in my head they were fan owned? I could well be wrong Either way, we will probably get pushed aside easily. A team flying at the top of the conference is a much harder proposition than a team struggling at the bottom of League 2.

Also, from the highlights, the open ended looked in places to have 2 deep standing, which isn't bad for the worst view in the ground.

Re: BT Sport coverage Darlo vs. Walsall

We came across well. I had some friends over who knew nowt about us, and i didn't have to explain too much, so that's a sign they did something right. I thought the ground did look good, apart from the open end (which was also weirdly empty when the rest of the ground looked packed - it should've m...

Re: General Election 2019

I'm not sure Diane Abbott in one of the great offices of state is any scarier than the likes of Dominic Raab. Has there ever been such a dearth of high quality politicians on the front benches of the two main parties?

Re: Flares /pyrotechnics

It is no comfort, but its not a problem unique to Darlington. any game/ club with a decent attendance faces this problem unfortunately This is true. We have a minority of idiots. Any team with a reasonable fanbase will have a minority of idiots who come out for the big games. Clubs with far greater...

Re: Will Darlo go for the hybrid model?

Pete where did you dream this s*** up from, because that is what it is, absolutely no way we as fan owned club could afford full time contracts, 1) we don't have the financial clout, 2) we need over 700,50 thousand 3)it's just your imagination running wild, When we are able to support fulltime foot...

Re: Darlington V Walsall Match Thread

I think last night showed the positives and negatives of where we are as a football club. The positives are we've clearly got a manager who knows what he's doing. He's built a squad which is very close to being competitive. We have a solid defence which is hard to break down, a midfield trio who hav...

Re: Gates

I'm as inpatient as the next person, but we have to trust those with the knowledge to work out the best way forwards (or should that be 'least worst') for the club. It has to be the correct move for the club in the long term. As awful as BM is to watch football at currently, it does what we need it ...

Re: Sold out?

Yeah I can't see any appeal in this game for them whatsoever - a long journey in midweek in winter, to stand on flat, uncovered concrete, for a game against a side two divisions below which is on tv anyway, and the best case scenario for them is they avoid being embarrassed? I'll be surprised if mor...

Re: Sold out?

Great to see we still have a decent size latent fanbase out there - shame we can't accommodate more of it when we do get the oppourtinity (and that I'm going to have to turn up at 6.15 on the day to get a reasonable view  ) but it is what it is at the moment. Hopefully this can be the spark tha...

Re: Home to Oxford if we win

Main reason is that this means we have actually managed to get through to the 2nd round of the FA Cup, which I don't expect us to and will just enjoy the night v Walsall for what it is. Yes - we are massive underdogs for the replay, probably more so than the first game in my eyes. Even if we don't ...

Re: Home to Oxford if we win

I doubt the potential Oxford game will be on TV - from memory the tv companies make decisions before the replays are done, and they won't risk Walsall v Oxford! If it happens (if if if) then it might get moved to the Sunday for 'extended coverage' or whatever the bbc call it

Re: Home to Oxford if we win

Good draw that. If we get through it's a big home game. If we don't get through the replay, it's not going to be devestating like missing out on Sunderland would have been! Not as devastating as thinking you've got Sunderland away, actually winning our replay for once - then the realisation that we...

Re: Walsall V Darlington FA Cup First Round Proper

Yeah I can't see a change (unless forced), and I wouldn't want to see one, even to get Thompson in there. The midfield trio is working really well - Wheatley sitting deep allows Hatfield and Holness to get up and down the pitch. Too often in recent seasons we've looked dominated in midfield, but sin...

Maybe they think £10k is not an unreasonable fee for a goalkeeper who would guarantee you a play off spot a division higher than they are currently playing though?

I think Saturday showed our major weakness as a team - we haven't quite found the right formula for scoring goals.
