Re: Signings

If we can get rid of Burn then ideal. Ainge is a bit different as I do think he offers something, just not for the money he will likely be on. Armstrong's moves all seem reasonable so far (on paper). Obviously we need a striker and a keeper, which I'm sure will be addressed. My only concern at this ...

Re: Jordan Nicholson released

On the pitch, it's a shame, as he's obviously a decent player. But when you factor in the wages and the commute, it seems a sensible move, particularly as he's not an irreplaceable talent

Re: Signings

If Hopson signs presumably Nicholson will be off? So you're pondering Nicholson's future because a fan guessed a name? IF being the operative word It's a discussion point - hypothetically could we have a squad with both Hopson and Nicholson? For what it's worth, Nicholson is a good player at this l...

Hoping we hear about 1/2 more players next week.

When do we report back for pre-season training like?
23rd June (according to the video uploaded on youtube) last season so presumably something similar this year?

Wouldn't mind some new signings to talk about

Early odds for next season

https://www.betvictor.com/en-gb/sports/ ... /0/0/0/0/1

Far too early for this, but:

York favourites 5/1 - not sure about that
Spennymoor seem decent value at 10/1
Darlo 20/1

Re: 3 players released

If, after we'd spent a decent wedge of cash on Ainge, we'd only gave him a 1 year contract, at the time I reckon there would have been outrage. Obviously hindsight is a wonderful thing, as it hasn't particularly worked out.

The decision to give Burn a 2 year contract on the other hand....

After learning from the experience of last summer I will reserve judgement on the signings until we've played a few games. However, nothing to complain about so far

Re: Alun Armstrong

Excellent news. Two top 10 finishes in this division to his name, and a promotion too suggests a good pedigree at this level. Provided he’s willing to work with the budget given, then this could be an excellent appointment. Also, the people running the process deserve huge credit. The last time out...

Assuming there is a new manager bounce, we look like we will beat last years amount, which is staggering considering how tedious last season was. To get anywhere near it would be an impressive achievement.

Re: Boost The Budget 19/20

The uptake has been quicker than I thought - I imagine there are a decent number of people waiting to see who is appointed too

The average amount per fan always impresses me - well over £200 per person on average.

Re: Football league original members

I'm sorry for Notts Co, don't know how they will manage in the National League, as clearly their ground is going to be a drain on their resources. No sympathy for Bolton I'm afraid. They have been clearly living above their means for a good while now and they have been let down by some poor owners ...

There is no fit and proper test, if you talk nicely wear a blazer and slacks you fit the proper test, if your a foreigner bow and scrape mention how great the British Empire was and you eventually get in even if you screwed other teams (Raj!).

Think you are right Gramps, Emma Hayes has a good background and would be a great candidate.Would she work with Whitey though as his language gets a bit strong.

Re: Time for Gray to finish the job.....

So if it was a backs to the wall job or a tight ship, Hodgy was your man. If it was an open chequebook, he didn't seem to be able to get us over the line. Yes that's probably a fair comment. I actually had a fleeting thought earlier this season. Hypothetically if we ended up in the bottom 3 and Wri...

Re: Time for Gray to finish the job.....

Weren't we in serious contention for automatic promotion that season (07/08) too until an injury crisis up front?

I guess there is an argument as to whether Penney did a good job with the money available (same as Hodgson in 99/00 - and Wright this season too)

Re: Time for Gray to finish the job.....

Originalfatcat, how can you question Hodgson for his football ability he was signed for liverpool by one of their best managers, Hodgson always tried to play the game from fullbacks through the midfielder to the forwards , it was good to watch, he also built good teams from nothing I thought. But t...
