Re: Once the dust settles...
We never owned Feethams, but it did the job for the best part of a century. I don't like BM that much, but I fear we are nowhere near getting a new ground. We might have to make do for quite a few more years, in which case we would have to spend money on it. We did own Feethams (the Stadium). Howev...

Re: 2022/23 FINANCIAL RESULTS
It looks unsustainable to me. Without going into it chapter and verse, we are settling into a pattern of annual losses which the BTB doesn't cover. There was a couple of bonus years during Covid, where the support schemes allowed the Club to generate some cash, believe it or not. That cash looks lik...

Re: What's the point of fan ownership?
I've always been unsure about the dividing lines between Darlington 1883 Ltd and the main shareholder, DFCSG. As DFCSG has an overwhelming majority of the shares, perhaps it's time for them to appoint the Ltd. Co. Board from its own ranks. it could be the same people, if DFCSG chose, providing they...

Re: Blood on hands/heads must roll
No one has explained it apart from saying 'DJ said we werent laible for ALL of it'--the idea he has a 2 year contract and will have to accept 3 months wages is ridiculous---we may end up paying him a lump sum that is less than his full value IF he agreed, but this glib 'its been paid off stance' is...

Re: Latest accounts
Should we be relagated, I can’t envisage many savings being available from costs outside of the playing budget. If attendances are lower, and perhaps admission prices may need to be lower at that level, it’s the playing budget that’s going to take the hit. I suspect that our deal with the Rugby Club...

Last season's average for League matches was 1,548. This season to date is 1,367 (and falling)Ghost_Of_1883 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 6:51 pmI don't actually think the average crowd is much different this season to last.

Re: Blood on hands/heads must roll
The bit that really grates on me is how DJ and the board reacted to Mark Beck leaving. We were told targets were unaffordable, expectations were dampened, and ultimately AA’s budget was reduced. At the time we nodded along but given the disastrous appointment of JG who was given a significantly inc...

The accounts for the year ending 30 June 2022 were published around 28 March 2023. Therefore, the accounts for year ending 30 June 2023 could be imminent. It will be a further full year from now before details of the impact of the managerial changes, lower crowds and so on become available unless th...

Have you seriously never seen or signed a contract before? Almost every contract is full of clauses and various terms to protect both parties in case of disputes. That's literally the point of a contract. Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using Tapatalk Yes I know to protect both parties, ie you can’t just ...

It would be completely bizarre to offer a football manager a 2 year contract that didn't include any break clauses, notice periods etc given the nature of football and the rate at which clubs change managers at every level of the game. If that were the case it would be extreme negligence. Sent from...

I was reading about Newport County AFC and their renaissance today. There were battles again the Welsh FA who initially insisted on them reforming in the Welsh leagues, followed by having to play their home games in Gloucestershire when they joined the English pyramid. Eventually they won a High Cou...

Tamworth were mediocre. As has been said above, how they are top of the league is a complete mystery, I've never seen a less likely physical specimen as their centre half, even in the Northern League. The second worst specimen also plays for Tamworth, their long throw specialist. Then there was thei...

This is the bit about fan ownership that I am beginning to dislike. When Singh sold us down the river, fan ownership was the ONLY option (in the end). I welcomed that in the hope that the Club could be run for the right reasons, in a transparent manner, and be self sustaining. This was, more or les...

Interesting observation above. When you go to every game you don't particular notice the slide into disrepair. I'd go with Gray - without doubt capable of turning it round.
Frankly I couldn't give two shakes of a monkey's chukky about most of the opinions and prejudices above.
There's a Cabal who are terrified that Gray endangers the ownership model.

For 'Gowling as player-manager' read Hatfield. Heaven knows what kind of player JG was. Bumped into James Curtis the other day whilst cycling through Spennymoor. Not a bad chap actually. I asked him if he thought Gowling was going to get us out of being relegated. His answer was "He was a very good...

The other stand out figure in the 21/22 accounts was "Match Day Costs" at £146,000 (versus £84,000 the previous year). Rent and rates are listed separately, so I wonder what the breakdown of this is? Didn't we only play 11 league matches in the 20/21 financial year versus 42 in 21/22. Good point. S...

Loved Hodgy.
Realised what he had let himself in for in the first game of his final stint as Manager, an away defeat at Hornchurch in the FA Cup.
Still pissed off, though, that he couldn't pronounce Feethams properly.

Crowd was just over 1,000.
Perennial question - are all season tickets included in this?
Better results required, not just to stay in the league, but to avoid the financial pressures resulting from lower attendances.
It's a bit of a downward spiral.

Re: The Last 6 Fixtures vs Next 6 Fixtures Comparison
The reality is that, I suspect , we are not in a financial position to sack and recruit another Manager. Therefore the best way to behave is to support what’s in front of us and try to maximise their chance of success. Regarding the Board, we have a high quality group at the helm who will be learnin...

I’ve employed people over the years who may interview well and have good cv’s on paper but you can sometimes tell very quickly they aren’t up to the job. This is one of those moments for the board to be seriously discussing. We are going backwards quickly. They’d have been better off sticking with ...

Jeff Thompson has done a fantastic job at South Shields I wish him a happy and healthy future in retirement. Of course it will be an uncertain time for the club, but I am certain he will only sell to someone he thinks will build on his legac y. On thing I am pretty sure of is that the supporters wi...
