Re: Which grounds have you seen Darlo playing at?

If we're talking non-league that were league at the time Southport (my first ever Darlo game 1978?) and Hereford one of my faves, play off semi. Blackpool (in the rain!!) I was at the Southport game, memorable for two reasons, I got a lift from my friend on the back of his Suzuki 750. When I got of...

The 1-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday with the Ron Ferguson 40 yard screamer in the League Cup c1976.
Or the 4-0 demolition of Brighton at Priestfield Stadium in the early nineties. Not too sure of the exact dates but in the latter Marco was the star.

Re: Workington fc

Thanks MP. Looking at that team it makes you wonder why we were so bad in those days. Barry Lyons, a fantastic midfielder, Eddie Rowles, I remember him getting over twenty in one season and stalwarts like Clive Nattress, ah the years are falling away as I reminisce.

Workington fc

Not a statto by any means but I remember going to a Workington away match in 1976 and I think we came away with a 3-2 victory. Not sure if this was the last time we ever played them or not, my forty year recollection is somewhat rusty. Perhaps someone more informed could enlighten me.

I remember that some of the fencing poles had been removed from the cricket pitch and were being used as weapons. I lived in Victoria Road at the time and a Boro fan threw a 50p piece through my front room window. Apart from the fighting it was a great match

I remember dashing to the paper shop after the game to see where we were in t he league table. Certainly in the early seventies it was near the bottom. I too remember the usual pained expression on Quentin Quakers face after we had lost... again!!

Minster, near Ramsgate in East Kent. Any other Kent based Darlo supporters out there?

I remember the Ron Ferguson goal, I think it was around 1976, also Pawel Abbott's top corner strike away to Brentford,Ritchie Foran also banging one in in that game as well

Remember all the TV hype as we were rock bottom and hadn't won for some time. Centre half John Stone was converted to a striker that day and scored the last goal. Wasn't he some kind of illusionist or hypnotist that correctly forecasted before the game that we would win six nil

Peter Taylor just confirmed as new manager. He is a bit of a face down here in Kent having been with Gills in a previous promotion season. Allen didn't get a fair crack of the whip though. Another moment of Paul Scally madness

Willie Whigham not sure if he was sober at the time though. Phil Owers sticks in my mind although he did concede seven on his debut

Spookily I know Thamesmead Town very well having lived in Bexleyheath and worked on the Western Way in the nineties. Having been exiled myself since the early eighties I have spent the last 30 years watching Darlo away but now have no family alive up north it's very difficult to justify the expense ...

My local team Herne Bay also appear in the South version of your league. Saw them recently against Chatham Town in the Vase in front of a crowd of less than 200. Just shows how well the club is supported in the grand scheme of things. Looking forward to my first venture up north in three years in Fe...

Re: Some ppl on here need to remember...

I wonder how many League One and Two clubs are making a profit at present. Not many I'm sure. I blame the top heavy finances thrown at the Premiership, the distribution of wealth throughout the leagues has diminished since it's inception which has led to the demise of the lower leagues. Its just lik...

I love your optimism and take my hat off to you but say a 100 of us scooped a ten million pound jackpot, could we realistically hand over a cheque for 100k each. Being brutally honest and I love this club, but I couldn't.

I too feel totally gutted at the situation we are in. Three Wembley visits, relegation, re-election, administration, loss of league status twice, there have been many more downs than ups since my first game in 1970. But Darlo have always been my team and always will be despite the last 26 years livi...

Taking a cynical overview on this one, if we were to win a considerable amount on the lottery would we not all feel agrieved in handing over what would be life changing amounts of money to all of us to a complete and utter charlatan in Singh.

I agree with this to a Point. I too come from the Blan,t Sinclair, Sproates era of Darlo supportere that have seen many many downs and far too few ups in our time watching the club. No one can disagree that Craig Liddle is a true Darlo legend that has done wonders with the youth set up. But what els...

Agree with Brian Laws as the best candidate on the list. He might want to drop down to our level to build up his reputation after a battering whilst at Burnley. He achieved two promotions at Scunthorpe and I remember him as a class full back in the short time he spent with us at the end of his career.

The proudest moment in 41 years of watching Darlington.I took my son who is a Gillingham supporter and he was totally overwhelmed by the whole day. I think he may be converted.

Billy Horner (ex Darlo player and manager c1970s) had his own milk delivery business whilst playing. What an experience watching one of your Darlo heroes plonking a pinta on the step.
