Re: Sports village

I take onboard that there are two sides to every story. It’s good that someone is pointing things out - but still, I can’t buy this “Rugby Club losing money on bar takings” theory. During our games the bar is rammed. I bet on the Saturdays when we are away it’s a lot quieter. I have in fact called i...

Re: Sports village

Lo. In my opinion the Rugby Club will not lose money on the bar when we have a match.

They don’t like us under normal circumstances - they’re not going to “take one for the team” 25 times a year. They would take all proceeds or put the prices up or refuse us access.

There's certainly more than 100 pints sold on a Saturday when we are home.

Re: Sports village

I understand that your example is just an example but on saying that I find it hard to believe.

It gets rammed inside the bar on a match day - there’s food and drink all over, then at about half five it will just revert.

Re: Sports village

They lose money from football support?

Could you explain that please lo?

Or, couldn’t we take over on a match day and make money (because our fans would buy) They in turn wouldn’t allegedly lose money, so win/ win.

Re: Sports village

I agree, the sign isn't a big thing, it isn't the be all and end all, but it just illustrates the type of relationship we have with the Rugby Club, as my learned friend Old Git states above. However, I'm sure we can have a serious debate about our future alongside a small scale discussion of the sig...

Re: Sports village

The units do...the front of the stadium does does it? It says Welcome to...and the in a shared sign lists Mowden + all occupants? And actually looking at google maps this does appear to be the case. Mowden park have a sign, and the tennants in the units also appear to have a sign. Albeit this is fr...

Re: Sports village

However, the standard league 'Welcome to Darlington FC' sign had to be removed and changed so that it wasn't football specific. Ah you mean those standard signs that every team has which says welcome to "team name" FC... Bit like this one. https://images.app.goo.gl/2zcBRWBoeQojcQh16 Must have been ...

Re: Sports village

Yes the Rugby Club have their sign. Oh wait it isn't that we want our own sign, we want to replace their one - is that what we are after? Just because there is one for the Rugby Club doesn't mean they didn't need Council permission to erect it. Existence of one structure with your name on it doesn'...

Re: Sports village

Something very simple that the Rugby Club could do as a signal of goodwill is to allow the Football Club to put a sign up at the entrance on Grange Road. I know some people think it is not worth making a fuss about but to me it is symbolic of our relationship. We are not even allowed to advertise t...

Re: Sports village

I witnessed an event after a home match this season which went far beyond being "petty" -and reflected very badly on the Rugby club.

I won't go into details however I did find out later that our top management were made aware.

The sad fact is that we are stuck in a marriage of convenience.

Unless a miracle happens it is hard to see us ever being able to build a decent ground from scratch so we may have no option to explore the development of Blackwell Meadows with all the drawbacks that involves.
It would be ambitious, long winded and very hard but see poppyfield's post above.

Re: Sports village

When you find your level.

You maintain it.

By maintaining it you don't stagnate.

In my view that level would be the position that I put in my previous post.

How's that lo ?????

Out of interest what do people distinguish as the difference between stagnation and "finding your level"?
In National league 1 - having a spirited go at a play off place every other season season. A bit like where we were for years, except a league down.

They might be fit but they can't be match ready surely?

It will be like the kickoff of a new season with the possibility of odd happenings and strange scores, and I'm not sure what relevance the league table will have.

I can't understand it, it's crazy - however I can't help thinking (in a naive way) that if it turns out to be one big scam involving people and money that may or may not exist then why can't it be nullified. All the assets are here in this country after all...

Looks like the Wigan fiasco is a lot more complicated than Chinese asset strippers. Makes the EFL and its "fit & proper" tests for owners look pathetic. The EFL penalty of a 12 point reduction is actually helping the scammers who probably have a massive bet on that Wigan get relegated. Surely a mat...

See Kyle Lafferty also released by Sunderland what a signing he would be but I guess will find a higher level club.
I reckon Lafferty will be on between £6,000 - £8,000 a week.

He's also a loose canon so one to avoid.
Is that why he was fired? Because he's a loose canon?
