Re: Motherwell game

Yes, I feel like that too. I am very happy with our progress and signings. The height thing is a minor concern, but I don't feel like we're going to get bullied.

Hatfield sounds like my kind of player.

I see that they have already had one preseason friendly in which Cartman scored a hat trick. I wonder if Campbell has ever heard of a hat trick.
Has Cartman ever heard of scoring in the football league?
He's only vaguely acquainted with scoring in the national league North.

Re: Adam Campbell

I'm quite enthused by that interview. It suggests he very much is the number 9 we're after, and Armstrong seems confident that his goalscoring record is false because he has been played out of position so much. If we were to sign, say, this 6'2" Ilkeston player then we have options to change it abou...

Re: Jordan Nicholson released

Well they were relegation fodder for much of last season, Nicholson was too, and styche is very much dependent on the way the wind is blowing, so unless they've made some other good signings it isn't pointing to a promotion push for me. I hope they have some grafters to do the work for them or its n...

We have 14 players based on Gramps sticky at the top of the board.
Let's be honest though, burn and glover aren't playing for us this season.

Re: New signings and outgoings

We are I’ve heard right against the budget so don’t expect any miracle forward coming in. AA can work wonders with his players and bring the best out of them but no disrespect to Blyth the anticipation of DFC fans is a whole other league, let’s hope he can produce the goods this time round. We've o...

Re: New signings and outgoings

Watson strikes me as an odd signing, as I think he'll be second choice no matter what position he plays. He never looked like a centre back to me. I think (hope) Armstrong goes with the 4-3-3 he has played before, as the wide options we have up front seem well suited to it. So Watson will probably ...

Re: Another defender

The echo this morning said we had offered a contract to Adam Armstrong, which would fill the striker slot. It doesn't exactly scream "we expect to get him", though, does it? If he did sign, and we got a keeper on a season long loan, I'd say we're two midfielders away from having the bones of the sq...

For want of anything more interesting...

I see blyth have appointed a new assistant manager. I assume that will mean Holloway will be announced imminently.

Hopefully things start to get interesting again this week.

Re: What is clear....

One matter of note is that none of the departing players have so far ended up at a club at the same level or higher, including Elliott. Nicholson might, but we haven't found a taker so far. I think trotman will probably go, based on little more than a hunch, and that we tied him to a new contract to...

Re: Gateshead relegated to NLN

We were always behind some other teams whose councils actually owned their stadiums in terms of infrastructure. Telford are another one whose stadium wasn't tied up in their debts, they'd be a long way from where they are now if it had been. Because of Houghton borrowing money against the arena it f...

Re: Gateshead relegated to NLN

Yeah, just read the statement. Absolutely zero chance they'll be breaking even if they're full time. Their attendances will fall as away crowds will surely be lower, and we all know the financial necessities of this division. Seems to me they have lucked out yet again. They must have a four leaf clo...

I don't really know anything about their new set up. Are they likely to be splashing the unrecoverable cash again, or relegation fodder? And where are they going to play?

Re: Boost The Budget 19/20

Without having any scientific basis for this, I'd imagine we have maybe 700-800 every-gamers, then a few hundred more who are on rotation, whether because they are exiles or work Saturdays or whatever. As such I'd say our core fan base is actually slightly bigger than that basic number.

I do think with ainge that we didn't play to his strengths at all. We never got the ball crossed from the by line for him to meet, because we were trying to play a system unsuited to the wide players we had. I'd say it's not impossible for him to succeed, even if it seems pretty unlikely. Also, Lin...

We've seen some belters on our way through the leagues. I remember Clitheroe in particular had a beauty, so much that the top of the perimeter fence around the pitch was stepped to keep up with it.

Which though? I'd imagine he won't move too far if he has an academy at Shildon, pools are occupied and Gateshead are knackered.
