Re: What is clear....

One matter of note is that none of the departing players have so far ended up at a club at the same level or higher, including Elliott. Nicholson might, but we haven't found a taker so far. I think trotman will probably go, based on little more than a hunch, and that we tied him to a new contract to...

Re: Gateshead relegated to NLN

We were always behind some other teams whose councils actually owned their stadiums in terms of infrastructure. Telford are another one whose stadium wasn't tied up in their debts, they'd be a long way from where they are now if it had been. Because of Houghton borrowing money against the arena it f...

Chris dunphy appears to have returned, although I must admit I don't really know the significance of that in terms of finances.

Re: Gateshead relegated to NLN

Yeah, just read the statement. Absolutely zero chance they'll be breaking even if they're full time. Their attendances will fall as away crowds will surely be lower, and we all know the financial necessities of this division. Seems to me they have lucked out yet again. They must have a four leaf clo...

Re: Gateshead relegated to NLN

I don't really know anything about their new set up. Are they likely to be splashing the unrecoverable cash again, or relegation fodder? And where are they going to play?

Re: Boost The Budget 19/20

Without having any scientific basis for this, I'd imagine we have maybe 700-800 every-gamers, then a few hundred more who are on rotation, whether because they are exiles or work Saturdays or whatever. As such I'd say our core fan base is actually slightly bigger than that basic number.

Surely they don't need another goalkeeper? They must have some players who will be sick of sitting in the stands as well?

Re: Signings

I do think with ainge that we didn't play to his strengths at all. We never got the ball crossed from the by line for him to meet, because we were trying to play a system unsuited to the wide players we had. I'd say it's not impossible for him to succeed, even if it seems pretty unlikely. Also, Lin...

Re: Sloping pitches

We've seen some belters on our way through the leagues. I remember Clitheroe in particular had a beauty, so much that the top of the perimeter fence around the pitch was stepped to keep up with it.

Spenny will have a bigger squad than Chelsea soon. One way or another there's sure to be some good players becoming available.

Re: Darlington's 'demise'....

Just a question. When Spennymoor ultimately go tits up because they have huge wages and crowds of 800, do we still have to give it the old "shame for it to happen to such a proud old club" bollocks?

Same question for fylde, Harrogate etc.

Re: Released players

See Jason Kennedy and Gary liddle have both gone from Carlisle. Kennedy is good enough to be higher but has had major injury problems, not sure what level liddle lands next.

If we end up with thirlwell I suppose we may end up looking at Carlisle a bit more.

Re: Darlington FC fightback victories

I remember Matt Clarke scoring a couple of late goals, to turn round a game at Feethams, one was a spectacular volley. Can't remember who it was against. That game at the Riverside was a special night, terrific atmosphere as well. Was it orient, in our second game at the arena? We scored two late g...

This is bad for Gateshead - and yes before you bring it up shildonlad I did say fuck off Gateshead the other week - although I didn't literally mean fuck off Gateshead, what I meant was "lucky bastards" because I thought Dunphy was going to come and rescue you at that time. I agree with all you're saying about Gateshead. As for the others, well, forever is a long time. Ultimately, everything is finite, and when groves does eventually pack it in, really the best spenny can hope for is a managed decline. Same goes for Salford. Boro are different because they're always on...

I read they are seeking voluntary relegation of the current club. Will that mean a reprieve for aldershot then? I guess it won't affect the make up of nln?
