Re: Tommy Taylor Departs
All the best to Tommy. I'm sure an absolute brilliant lad to have around the changingroom and club. But for me, the right decision. With limited resources the loan route seems to be the best to maximise the position. You think we should just go with a loan keeper next season? What if we can't get a...

Re: Tommy Taylor Departs
Wish him well he’s been a good servant for us. It’s the right decision in my opinion as there’s very few keepers at this level that I wouldn’t put ahead of him. Of course we could do worse, we had worse before Taylor but SW hasn’t put a foot wrong in terms of recruitment so far so every chance he wo...

Re: Well how did we do that?
That for me has been transformed by new additions, Main in particular. Would SW been able to do the same with Felix & Hazel? I personally don’t believe so. You don't believe that SW would have been able to do anything with Hazel , who scored 20 goals a season every season, and 21 goals in his first...

Re: Well how did we do that?
I doubt that very much due to your constant defending of Gowling and the fact that applicants such as Watson, Lakeland & Gray were interested in the job first time around. My defence of Gowling wasn’t about his overall performance as a manager which wasn’t good enough but the constant speculation a...

Re: Well how did we do that?
It's what happens when you appoint a proper manager. Credit to the Board for appointing Watson & Mitchell, but even bigger credit to them both for their work since January. The Board must learn from the appointment of the Giggler. Does CrazyDarlo still think he deserved more time? Obviously not but...

Re: Looks like they're staying...
If you take the starting 11 from Saturday, for me we want to be keeping as much of that team together as possible. Outside of that, Nelson is under contract but I’m not sure if there’s anyone else I’d be looking to be keep on.

I’d add Rutledge to the list of players I’d be keen to keep hold of. He’s not the finished article but 6”4 centre forwards are not easy to come by and he’s got the talent to be form a very effective partnership alongside Main.

Re: Darlington v Farsley 13/04/24
There was no doubt who the better footballing team was going to be but I thought we just looked a bit nervous and lacked a bit of composure in front of goal first half but thankfully found it in the end. An outstanding job done by Watson & Mitchell. Attention now turns to new contracts for the pair ...

Re: Darlington v Farsley 13/04/24
I agree with OG on this one. Mistakes were made and then put right. No point in wasting energy on Gowling and his horror show. Time to move on? Naturally JG & AA will continue to be discussed on here because they’re a big part of why we’re still in this position. It’s when they’re being needlessly ...

Re: Chester Away All ticket
I thought away teams at this level were entitled to 20% of the capacity? It's only 20% in the FA Cup. Minimum is 10% in the EFL, don't know about the NLN. I guess as most ground aren't segregated its not usually an issue. Fair enough my memory must be failing me. 500 does seem a tad stingy for such...

Re: The Bottom Ten, Saturday Apr 06th 2024
Following on from Ginge01's thread, if you put together a league table starting on 10th February (the 0-2 loss to Alfreton), Darlo appear in joint 2nd position, with 27 points from 13 matches (Brackley and Chorley have the same total as us). The only team above us is Spennymoor (32 points from 14 m...

Player of the season: Cedric Main. I know he's not been here long but he is everything we were missing and he's been crucial in this (fingers crossed) great escape. Best young player of the season (u23): Matty Young Best signing: Cedric Main Most improved: Toby Lees Mr consistent: Will Hatfield Mos...

Re: Asante Starts
There have been rumours that there is a plan to have this guy on our books next year. On the basis of his alleged salary it would take a massive portion of any Boost the Budget to afford him. After all, if has been paid a small fortune to sit around doing nothing I dare say he will want a wage rise...

Re: End of season awards
Tough one this year as I don’t think anyone has done really well all the way through the season. I’d go with Salkeld as he was probably one of the better players during the Gowling era and has really stepped up in the last couple of months with some important goals. Young player - Young Signing - Ma...

Re: Darlington V Chorley
It’s a decision of very small margins, the officials have to be completely sure the ball has crossed the line so it’s no surprise the goal wasn’t given. It does at all excuse the poor defending for all three of their goals. There’s no point over analysing things at this crucial stage, with other res...

Re: Darlington V Chorley
Rivers is fine to bring on for 20 minutes if you have a lead and you just need someone to keep the ball but his influence when starting games is minimal. You cant have been there on saturday then, Rivers was one of the few that had a good game and also played Main through for the first goal. :crazy...

Re: Darlington V Chorley
Now isn’t the time for radical changes to formation, we’ve found a system that is clearly capable of getting the 2-3 more wins required to keep our heads above water. For me, Salkeld starts ahead of Rivers. Rivers is fine to bring on for 20 minutes if you have a lead and you just need someone to kee...

Re: Rushall tickets
The ground under normal circumstances only holds 1,400 but the capacity will probably be a few hundred lower than that on Saturday aws they have demolished the stand behind one of the goals ready to put up a new seated stand to help meet ground grading requirements. The work is going on and that en...

Re: Darlington V Peterborough Sports
I certainly don’t think we’ll be looking to rotate/ rest players in the next few matches. We’re playing the same players every week, they’re in form, they are understand their roles and are continuing get results. No more Tuesday night games to go so we should be through the worst of it in terms of ...

Re: The Bottom Ten, Tuesday Mar 12th 2024
I think the clubs with the greater resources tend to prevail towards the end of the season when the fixtures pile up and therefore Kings Lynn, Southport and Darlington continue to pull away and Banbury & Rushall will drop.

Re: Blyth V Darlington
Delighted with the result and some aspects of the performance, we probably need something like 9/10 points from the last 7 games to make sure of survival. Fully believe we’ll do it and may actually get a lot more than that but it’s no time to get carried away. First half performance wasn’t great, pa...

Been really impressed with this lad, chance creation has been a huge problem for us for a long time now but he’s playing a massive part in changing that. Wouldn’t expect a lad come from the relegation zone in the NPL to have a such a instant impact. We’ve very rarely brought players in from lower le...

Re: Curzon V Darlington
How many up until Hatfield's goal? 0 or 1 perhaps. There are 6 on the highlights. On target before Hatfield's goal? I don't think so. The point I am making is that the opposition keeper could barely stand up, but Darlo weren't testing him with strikes on target or corners underneath the crossbar an...

Re: Curzon V Darlington
Really positive performance last night, we’ve gone from a nine point gap to three in space of just 11 days. A pretty miraculous turnaround, must admit I thought we might be done for after the Alfreton game so very pleased to have been proved wrong. We’re just better in both boxes, that’s the differe...
