Re: Has anyone played for DFC and scored for England?

I thought maybe Gary Pallister but having checked, he didn't score for England.

Re: Holness returns

Not bitter at all. Anyone has the right to try to better themselves in any walk of life. Maybe no other central midfielders were signed because AA was happy with who he had. Unfortunately Hatfield and Atkinson have suffered injuries so the situation has changed and Omar has returned having failed t...

Re: Holness returns

It’s the truth and if you find it offensive that’s your problem. With Hatfield Wheatley Reid Atkinson and Hedley on the payroll there is no way we could offer a deal to Omar if they were all fit. Why is that so hard for you to understand? Because Holness is better than Reid, Atkinson and Hedley? In...

Re: Erico Sousa

With Holmes out for some time he'd be a direct replacement I suppose. Holmes was probably viewed as filling the gap left by Thompson so probably always in the plan to get someone in to cover that role.

Re: Holness returns

I remember him playing right back a handful of times (not necessarily from the start) last season, and has played in offensive and defensive midfield positions to suit our shape in different games, but I'm not sure if call him a utility player. But then these terms, and terms like 'natural' position...

Re: Holness returns

He is lucky that we happen to have a batch of injuries, so he has a second opportunity to prove his ability by playing & putting himself in the shop window. He is not lucky. When did it become luck to be asked to do a job when you are proven to be proficient at that job. To be fair, he may well not...

Re: Holness returns

He provides some valuable cover while Hatfield and Atkinson are out injured. It may be intended as no more than a short term arrangement for both parties until those two are fit - I can't imagine we can afford to commit to him long term from a financial point of view at the moment. He knows the mana...

Sounds like a bit of cover for the injuries picked up recently. Hopefully they do a job until others are available again.

It's a bit of a funny one this, public money being used to bail out football clubs that in many cases are badly run and unsustainable as businesses. It seems a bit like kicking the can down the road in some cases - should the bailout be conditional on the club's being supported agreeing to meet som...

He is in the last year of his contract, so if he wasn't going to be playing week in week out this season he could have left on a free anyway. So I think its just a case of cashing in while they can.
They'd get something at tribunal due to his age I think, although probably a nominal sum.

From the highlights, and that's all they are, I'd be more concerned by our wasteful finishing than the goalkeepers performance. We could've had a bagful against Middlesbrough. But then it's pre-season and the players will all be badly lacking in sharpness after such an usually long break, so I'm not...

Boro squad numbers are out, no number for Tyrone O'Neil however keeper Sol Byrnn has been allocated one. I wonder if O'Neil will be going out on loan again and will Armstrong be tempted? Doubt it given the reinforcements we have in attack now. I can't see where there'd be space for him unless we ge...

Trying to work out who the new trialist GK and other outfield trialists are. Anyone got any clues who they are.. Re: Bury FC fan - in need of some advice

If I cast my mind back - right at the start there were a number of people who weren't happy, and chipped away a bit with a dissenting attitude, but my overwhelming memory about this time is the fact that the vast majority of fans were very much onside. Personally I wasn't sure, and it took me a whi...

Re: Bury FC fan - in need of some advice

Darlington FC didn't go bust - we're not a phoenix club. The fans raised money paid the club's major creditors rather than allowing the club to fold. These debts were paid back over our first couple of seasons in the non-league pyramid. That meant the club remained. The golden share issue affected o...

Good to add another experienced head to the squad. I wonder whether he'll be first choice at right back or someone who can fill in as and when while providing some influence behind the scenes.

I suppose the alternative might be we end up with Holness returning? I've not seen that he's signed anywhere else yet.

Need more emails sent to him then , if he got 60 from Newcastle fans in the town, we should be able to outstrip that. Do you think there's more Darlington fans in the constituency than Newcastle? Went for Campbell Vs Farsley for the goal. Difficult angle and not a lot of space. Hatfield were well hit but he had about a month to line up his shot in both cases.

Put it this way - get Green and a good goalkeeper in and we have to be considering a run for promotion. That's a seriously good squad with strength in depth and quality in pretty much every area. So I guess you are dangling the carrot of being part of a team that has a chance of going up and maybe c...

AA had no issues in Atkinson leaving to go and play in Iceland when he was at Blyth. The difference is, I guess, that Atkinson had a solid offer and Omar is taking his chance. Harsh to say 'he's not that fussed about being at Darlington'. Omar wants to try for full-time football and obviously we ca...

Quite a selection of forwards if we get Maguire, with Campbell and the lad from Newcastle already competing, and Donawa, Holmes, Rivers and Reid filling the positions behind and either side. Certainly gives the manager plenty of styles and systems to choose from. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
