Re: Potential new signings

The more you think about it the more sense it makes. Alun first and foremost liked his defenders to be good with the ball at their feet. A typical clogger at CB wouldn’t give that option but an experienced RB who had recently converted to CB and done really well who has a good pass on him starts to...

Re: Darlington Formed 2012

The club ultimately is the fans. They are the constant, and although only footifan still remains from 1883, the baton passes from generation to generation. If we, as supporters, feel the club is the same entity, then it is. That's disregarding the fact that legally, financially, and in the eyes of t...

Re: The Team 20/21 season

Is there anything the Arena fanboys won't seize upon as a reason to take us back to that dreadful old dive? The capacity of Blackwell is 3,300... so even in such a situation where that 25 percent rule was enforced that's 825, not 750... the idea that walking away from Blackwell to play in the Arena...

Re: Next season’s captain

Don’t know the bloke personally but I always had the impression Tait was a bit of a tosser. Would not want him back if he came back in thinking he was a big time Charlie. Certainly would not bring him in and make him captain above the likes of Hatfield and Liddle. The last thing we need is another ...

Re: Shirt Sale Update

Good to see as well that the retro shirts are in and will be sent out by post next week.

I've not bought a football shirt for a few years but have bought three in the last couple of months!

Re: Next season’s captain

Liddle and Hatfield probably the most obvious choices. As said by others, you need leaders throughout the team but the captain needs to be someone that all will unanimously respect, and someone who can communicate diplomatically with officials and the opposition, not just with their own mates. They ...

Whichever one we go for I hope it's with white shorts rather than matching shorts. Much smarter look.

This is tough. Whichever wins will I think be one of my favourite Darlo kits.

Can we have both?

Re: Away kit poll

I'd be happy with either Mint or Orange. Mint is a nice throw back to that kit we have late 90s.

To be fair that mint green one is nice.

The black and neon one is horrendous. Easily the worst of the 4.

Re: Second Time Around

In this subject, who do we feel has actually been better second time round? People always clammer for the return of old favourites but they rarely perform as well second time around. I'd say Sam Russell was better second time around, and Gary Brown didn't let himself down either. Alan White also, co...

Re: Away kit poll

Very tough call. The burgundy effort a few seasons ago is one of my favourites and I didn't get one so this would be a chance to right that wrong.

But an orange kit [emoji1786]

If the other semi throws up two s*** options I'll be annoyed.

Re: The Team 20/21 season

Equally Atkinson will also get game time where Holness did last season, again he was pretty limited this season. Based on what Armstrong said at the NetCafe ie that he is basically after two strikers a centre back and a goalkeeper. Add Lambert into the mix because I think it is a reasonable assumpt...

Re: The Team 20/21 season

Would put Holmes as a wide forward. My guess is Atkinson will play more in midfield than defence, and Hedley would in the first instance be used as a RB, particularly if Armstrong doesn’t bring in a specialist for that position. There’s an account called Non League Guy which has linked us with Sol ...

Re: Natcafe with AA

Wright didn't overspend against his budget (as you will defend Gray to the hilt on), but the budget was set naively based on gates that looked ambitious and a cup run (which never materialised). As far as I am aware Wright didn't go back to the board at any point telling them to give him more cash b...

Re: Natcafe with AA

Need to dig into his thoughts on Dave Penny a bit more sounds as though they didn’t see eye to eye over football philosophy From what I remember of Penny he was happy to try to win every game 1-0. Think AA would rather win 5-4 so their football philosophies are very different. The less said about D...

Re: New deal for Donawa, Hatfield, Rivers, Holmes, Hedley, Reid, Storey , Campbell, Laing, Wheatley, Liddle, Watson,

As I said, he also set-up the same way at Blyth as he predominately does here. Was that due to lack of personnel? Quite possibly, yes. I'm not familiar with his squad at Blyth other than those he's brought with him but sounds like McGuire was the only proven 'centre forward' option with a number of...

Re: New deal for Donawa, Hatfield, Rivers, Holmes, Hedley, Reid, Storey , Campbell, Laing, Wheatley, Liddle, Watson,

Alun predominately played 1 up-front at Blyth. Maguire the focal point, the likes of Rivers, Reid, Dale, Holmes & Wrightson playing off him. We tried two up-front at stages of last season and it didn't work. O'Neil and Campbell in a front 2, with Rivers and Thommo/Donawa wide, worked Anyone who com...
