Re: New kit

The hooped kit looks particularly good I think. One of the best we have had and will buy next season. I was one of those who was up for a change but hey ho, I think the club did the right thing putting it to another vote with a hooped option. The only depressing thing about this whole debate is real...

Re: New kit

I have loved pretty much all of our hooped shirts - and I do associate the kit with Darlo success: Back to back titles under Brian Little, the great 95-96 team, the FA trophy and our rise through the non leagues but my reaction when I saw these was 'Oh good something a bit different.' I wonder if it...

Re: Team of the decade

I agree with this team almost entirely. Would just have Cartman in ahead of Armstrong. And maybe Ferguson in there too. But having said that Galbraith has been one of our most important players of the decade no doubt. Russell Trotman Brown Galbraith Ferguson Turnbull Hatfield Bridge-Wilkinson Thomps...

Re: Darlington V Telford

In fairness to Armstrong he had to pretty much build a whole new team with not much of a budget and then has had some injuries to cope with. Listening to his interviews I think he can see what the shortcomings of the squad are. I like what I have seen from the some of the players he has brought in. ...

Re: Darlington V Walsall Match Thread

I thought we were pretty good. Certainly the better team in the first half. Several non Darlo fan text me to say Thompson was the best player on the park. Hatfield also great and Liddle whose distribution was fantastic. As everyone knows we need a striker. I suspect Campbell would work well in a 4-...

Re: Gloucester V Darlington

We have been very unfortunate with injuries but this is a much grimmer start than I was expecting - particularly away from home where we simply look more like conceding than scoring. I don't live in Darlington so tend to go to more away games than home - perhaps thats why I am feeling more pessimist...

Its early days and I admire those people staying positive but we are really labouring against average teams.

And looking at the table its not like we have had the hardest of starts.

Re: Farsley V Darlington Match Thread

First game in ages. Full of pre season optimism after all the new signings but the first half was as poor a performance as I can remember. Bullied and carved open by an average team. Second half better but yeah that was hard work. On a positive note I thought Hatfield looked good and the sort of pla...

Re: Bradford Park Avenue v Darlington Match Thread

First match for me for a long while. A battling win and to say they are in the play off mix I thought we looked much the better team for most of the game. We should have led at half time. Although he missed a few its clear that Styche is a beast. Can't remember the last time Darlo had a striker wher...

Re: Stockport Match Thread

Thought Stockport deserved to win today but great credit to Darlo for not letting their heads go down. Coming back three times shows real heart. They controlled big parts of the game and I think Brown,Burgess and Hunter were superb in the second half ensuring we held them off for most of the half. B...

Re: Halifax v Darlington Match Thread

Referee was incredibly poor today, I think it would have taken someone being dismembered for him to blow for a free kick in the first half. I thought we were much the better team but we looked vulnerable to the counter attack especially when their no 10 was involved so was happy with the point. Very...

Re: Martin Gray and the team ...

Very general point about our winning run. I don't get to as many games as I'd like but when I have been we look fitter this season. Anyone else noticed this? Some of the late wins maybe bear this out? Not sure if this is down to Alan White? We definitely look more and more like a pro/semi pro outfit.

While we can all take great pride in how the club was saved after this match part of me wonders whether we would have been better folding after that match and starting again without any debt. All I really remember about the match is that it was really cold and that I expected to enjoy the chance to ...

Amazing signing and exactly what we have missed.

Not been to many this season but have experienced good and bad. Worst was Farsley .

Best either Burscough or New Mills. . . . Thompson is in my all time Darlo side on the back of these games alone. Incredible stuff.

Re: Match Thread

Agree with Quakerz. Can't get too worried about who we play. Its a one off game and we are better than all of them. We might win we might lose and its our form early on this season which put Curzon out of reach. Yesterday was my first game in ages and my three-year-olds son's first ever Darlo game. ...

Re: Stevie Johnson Article

Agreed really good read. Being a Darlo fan he has been the player who has best captured the feeling that we are now a fan-led club. Also he was bloody good last season. Nearly always had an impact - including setting up Dowson's crucial goal that put us in the lead at Spenymoor in the match that gav...

Agreed. Said a few weeks ago that he is better than most wingers/attacking midfielders we have had playing for us in recent years -regardless of the division we are now in. Would anyone swap him for a Simon Johnson, or a Carlos Logan or Jeff Smith. I wouldn't.

Re: New Mills v Darlo Match Thread

My first game in a while and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Thompson was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch. His first goal was brilliant cutting past his man and firing into the top corner. His second was even better - outrageously good. Seemed to come out of nowhere. He just fired ...

Re: How we have started this season

Last season spoiled us. It was ludicrously good. A few patchy performances so far this term but we will be there or thereabouts. To be honest as long as the crowds hold up and we are living within our means and are paying down debt I am happy. Even if it takes us a few years to climb up. Delighted w...

Re: Andrew Johnson signs for Spenny

As an aside I think the Nonleaguezoners seriously underrate Dowson. Probably because he hasn't spent much time down there and so they only have his goals to games ratio to go on. He is not a prolific goalscorer but his approach play can be great. He does so much running and gives the team so much. I...

Kingswaykid you are right about Dunn deserving praise but I am not so sure the professional coaching set up wasn't a big part of our success too.

As for never seeing this many fans bite before. You had four replies. Granted that might seem a lot of people in the Northern League.
