Bob Hardisty and the 1948 Olympics
Next year is the 70th anniversary of Bob playing in the 1948 Olympics. He was at that time registered as a Darlo player and he played all four of GB's games in full (390 minutes). This is a great article by Harry Pearson the team and the tournament: http://harrypearson.blogspot.com/search/label/Darl...

Oddschecker has corrected it's page to reflect the BV one. Coincidentally four of the people in the list were at Barnsley in 1997-1998.

Re: CURZON away
It would look pretty bad if it snows on Dec 2 and they lost two Saturdays (Sep 30 and Dec 2) when they could have saved one of them. Maybe there's a later midweek game that could be moved into the Dec 2 slot, or games rearranged due to FA Trophy etc?

Add Salford to the mix. If Brackley move to the southern half, do Lowestoft dodge the bullet?

Re: excited!!
If the forecast is for rain until Weds night, I don't think it's feasible to move the game to Thursday. You've also got to consider work arrangements for Skem's players, and the ground staff issues.
I think the league will cross it's fingers that Darlo win the league without needing to play the game.

Re: excited!!
My point was more of the floating support will come to watch a winning team than a losing team 1. Higher quality opposition should attract more fans 2. Moving back to a ground in Darlington will raise the average attendance no matter what league position 3. I think Darlo can easily challenge for pl...

Re: excited!!
I must admit that I was excited all last night , but this morning my typical Darlo pessimism (since 1983) has kicked in and I'm more nervous today, and I bet I'm not the only one. We're so close, but I've got a few concerns running through my head. I'd be very grateful if some people could reframe ...

Re: season having to end in May
I thought it was because there's a deadline by which leagues and cup entries have to be sorted for the next season, and it's tighter higher up the pyramid. Thus the Northern League was extended a week but not the NPL.

Moving Games Due to Waterlogging
I noticed that Marske's NL game tonight has been switched to Billingham's ground due to a waterlogged pitch. I wonder if that can happen at a higher step than the NL.
Maybe it depends on how late it is in the season?

Re: Weather on Saturday
Are clubs allowed just to postpone a game by 24 hours? I assume not because there would need to be arrangements for the officials and the ground staff, plus the fans would already have their Sunday plans. I think Darlo have enough points in the bag to be pretty sure of a top 5 finish. On the other h...

Re: Darlo v Salford
What's the cut-off time for when the pitch has to be playable - before Salford set off for the game, or when the ref arrives at the ground? Presumably the fans who help out forking the pitch would have to be not working at their day jobs this afternoon?

Re: Darlo v Salford
Darlo seem to raise their game better against their promotion rivals (Blyth, Salford) than Salford do. OTOH if Salford lose this one their Top 5 place starts to come under threat so maybe Salford need the point(s) more?

Re: Season Extensions in other Leagues
That Blyth season seems to have been caused by cup runs rather than bad weather. I guess that then and now it's really tough to go far in cups and still play 46 league games without having that "9 in 19 days" finish, as per Morpeth this season: http://www.northernleague.org/view_team_results_table.p...

Season Extensions in other Leagues
On Feb 16th the FA agreed to extend the Northern League season by 7 days to May 7. It may extend further in early March. I wonder how many other leagues are doing this and whether it can only happen below Evostik level. Even with the extension, Morpeth are now facing Monday and Wednesday games every...

Attendance: 119. Presumably that's the lowest crowd that will watch Darlo this season?
Workington had to travel 140 miles to their game at Marine, which I assume they threw (losing 3-2) so that's another absurdity.

Re: Top 9 teams after todays games, Sat Jan 30th 2016
The latest "When Saturday Comes" says the 1992 generation are tactically totally clueless, so I wonder if they might be a hindrance to Salford at the run-in: too many cooks?
I think Darlo have a bit more substance; Salford might be a Colne Dynamoes.

Re: Rumour about Blyth
IIRC the higher league simply relegates one fewer team so somebody gets a reprieve; the play-offs are not affected.
For example, Northern League champions often don't fancy the Evostik so the Evostik does not relegate a side to the NL.

I'd say the title is Blyth's to lose but there's no clear 2nd team yet, which would get that crucial home tie in the play-offs. Salford threaten to pull away but it's not happened yet.

Re: Hereford FC and the vase
They still have their original ground and got more than 2,800 through the turnstiles for their most recent Vase clash. Does anyone know how often in recent years a club has got that high a gate in an early Vase round? However, they aren't allowed to play in the FA Cup until next season, so the Cup a...
