"I'm prepared to walk away without a penny if it helps the club survive" or words to that effect printed in his programme notes and repeated in an interview on BBC Tees at the time. When that opportunity came along, he had a change of heart and was quite happy to see us die to try to recover some ca...

That's my recollection, yes. I was at all three games. Seems he wasn't much better at Aberdeen where he was sent off 3 times in his 15 games for them:

Based on the highlights, did Kettering only have one attack? It must have been windy-I'm pretty sure it's blown the rugby posts over!! Pretty sure it was their only attempt, as well as Cassidy's awful miss Lambert's was equally as bad, been very poor since Farsley. Sent from my moto g(6) play using...

I don't buy this "gone as far as we can". At least not in a footballing sense, the ground situation is clearly holding us back. We already have a big enough budget to be successful in this league, it is temporarily tougher due to clubs with more dosh but they will either go up or go pop sooner or la...

It looked like a penalty to me and seeing it on the replay doesn't change my mind much but the frustrating thing for me was that kind of physicality was going on throughout the game all over the pitch and was hardly ever given as a foul. Sods law he decides to give this one. Irritates the hell out o...

Think you've always got to include Pawel Abbott, almost guaranteed to create something, even in games we were second best. I would also swap Gary Brown for Steve Foster.

Got to be Robbie Painter's goal at Leeds in front of the packed away end. For Feethams noise, Steve Gaughan scoring the only goal of the game vs Hartlepool in 95/6, remember Radio Cleveland replaying the commentary and the roar actually sounded like a proper football match! Turn a page in the program into a football pitch and then divide into yard squares. Sell each square or number of squares at £1 or more per square and put fans name on them for the season, (or initials if too small to see name). Between the goal posts, centre spot, and penalty spots cost double. No...

How is it that we can play in the trophy and not the league? Surely if we are playing at all (and training) then the players are being paid in full. If that's the case then we might as well play league games as we're paying the players anyway. Yes away trips cost money but will limited income from s...

Darlington under AA have always played their best football and won their most games with a solid and mobile 3 in midfield, a relatively mobile back 4 and a mobile front 3. The team playing this season have not consistently had anyway near this solidity, mobility or formation. Best team performances...

Not one I quite remember but the stand-out scoreline from new year's day fixtures is 1930, Darlo 8 - 3 South Shields, League division 3 North. A hat-trick each for Fred Laycock and Jack Hill. Jack Hill scored 9 goals in 7 games that season including another hat-trick in a 5-2 win at home to York in ...

So there you have it, Spen, in black and white: "thousands of pounds as a ‘signing on’ fee, plus a very good weekly wage" to play for the Pride of County Durham.
