With all due respect, I couldn't care less whether Quakerz posts or not. In any case, it's reassuring to know that free speech has people like DC fighting for it.

Re: Last Up: Manager
They've all had their failures (some more than others), but it's a toss-up between Cooper (almost solely on the strength of Wembley), Penney for the standard of football he produced (admittedly with a hefty budget) and Hodgy for JEEESUS CHRIST RAY. I think I'll sit this one out - I can't pick a winn...

Abbott & Wijnhard. Can't understand anybody not picking Abbott - he was a class act. Hatch at his best isn't far off and the same goes for Armstrong. Armstrong only performed for half a season though - he tailed off quite badly after Christmas in his first spell and was well past it when he returne...

Re: Next Up: Central Midfield
Funny I remember Purdie being anonymous at best in Central midfield, thats why he hardly ever played there. He also wasn't that good in his first season, only playing well in the FB positions. As for Penney leaving him out "for most of his first season". Purdie started 34 of the 46 games that seaso...

Re: Next Up: Central Midfield
Phil Stamp is a curious omission. Probably the most technically gifted centre mid we've had at the Arena. Fat as fuck, but still 20 times the player of Dickman or Bossy. First choice pairing would be Ravenhill and, once again, Purdie. Already chosen Purdie elsewhere though so I'll go for Kennedy. D...

Tough call between Burgmeier and Martin Smith. I'm going with Smith for his ability to pull off something incredible out of absolutely nothing.

Hutchinson was quality, so unlucky with injuries though - often seems to be the way with talented players when they come to Darlo.
I never understood why Matt Clarke won POTY in the 03/04 season. He was dire.

Yep, he coped with Hasselbaink very well. I think Viduka had himself in his back pocket though, he was dire (I assume through lack of effort rather than lack of ability).TinShedDarloFan wrote:Martis showed his class in only 45 minutes in the friendly against Boro, had Boro's strikers in his back pocket

Lidds and Martis. Was close to picking Foster/Miller/Wheater though! Martis was at a completely different level when he played for us . Can't remember a mistake that he did for us! Always played solidly Didn't Martis play some games at right back - where I don't think he was that outstanding True, ...

Re: Premier League 20 year prizes
i've given my reason for picking him, and i'm sticking by it. like i said Newcastle would of probably been relegated sooner if it wasn't for him, i grew up watching him so i'm going to be bias. To be fair that's probably the same reason why Cantona nearly made it into my team. Given might be in my ...

Re: Best Left Back
Purdie was best at centre mid or right wing, but I voted for him at left back given that I'd happily have Kennedy and Wainwright in those positions, whereas there's nobody (maybe Tim Ryan at a push) who I'd rather see at left back.

Re: Premier League 20 year prizes
Yeah... anyway, the second striker was probably the toughest call to make. Henry seemed an obvious choice, but I could easily have gone for Shearer, Rooney or Cantona instead of Van Nistelrooy. Sentimentality would dictate that Cantona should be my first choice, but I can't honestly say I think he w...

Have you had a go at picking a best 11 Spy on the Pl website ? Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do,
I'm half crazy all for the love of you.
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage,
But you'd look sweet on the seat
Of a bicycle built for two.
