Re: Halifax Friendly Now at Blackwell Meadows

It was good to see Campbell get a goal as he continued to give a good account of himself and was probably unlucky not to get another. I liked what I saw of Donawa, O'Neill and Bell. Bascome had a shaky start, making the horrible pass that led to their first goal, but he came back strongly in the sec...

Re: Darlington away vs Bishop Auckland

Tyrell playing for Bishop tonight has scored the opening goal. This did make me wonder if we had lost interest in Tyrell and this had allowed him a chance to make his case with Bishops, but I see that in today's preview of the Halifax game that he is expected to feature. Hopefully that goal for Bis...

Re: Darlington away vs Bishop Auckland

Who was Halliday? Should be Holliday, academy player was at Carlisle and Pools before that Cameron Holliday. He’s from the academy, Darlo lad and a Darlo fan. Would like to see him given a chance at some point this season, quality little player. Certainly agree with this. He impressed in the game a...

Re: Darlington away vs Bishop Auckland

It has been interesting to see that both Burn and Glover have been involved in preseason matches. The smart money seemed to be on their being aspects of the old regime that may not fit into AA's plans. But it is good to see that they are being given a chance to stake their claim. Does anyone have an...

Re: Osagi Bascome

I thought that he began fairly slowly and was probably effected by the careless approach that the Darlo players had, probably due to believing they were entitled to be better than their opponents. Darlo Town players did a great job of unsettling the Darlo players and scoring early certainly gave the...

I see that they have already had one preseason friendly in which Cartman scored a hat trick. I wonder if Campbell has ever heard of a hat trick.

Re: Simon Ainge

I was unconvinced by Ainge for most of last season. He didn't look that bothered from the off, and injury or not I think he was not with the team ethos. When he was occasionally interviewed he was never very animated and seemed almost bored. He never seemed to interact with other members of the team...

Re: New signings and outgoings

If we are "up against the budget" as reported above we badly need to release Glover, Ainge and Burn to make any progress towards having the bare bones of a team. If we assume that two of the three are on top wack then you might get 5 from 3 on more reasonable wages, but you can't expect big signings...

Re: New signings and outgoings

So we are two weeks away from our first friendly of the new season where we will get a chance to see what we are building. As we are no longer under Wright there has been a wave of optimism created by having a new man at the helm who has a better record of steering his side to the upper part of this...

Thanks wellingaway, but, on reflection, I think I'll be happy if you pass the photo on to Darlo_CR, who also got it right, instead.

Just shows how Tommy got his signings horribly wrong with his crazy contracts and could even mean not a single player who he signed will be here under AA.With the exception of Trotman and Nicholson who may be leaving through location issues, the others have fallen short. Re: Boost The Budget 19/20

I've got up this morning after being in the midst of a wonderful dream where the fans of Darlo had raised well over £100,000 to fund next year's budget. I'm still waking up but it all seemed so real.

Re: Signings

There is certainly a move, based on the announced signings, to move the core of the team to a north-east basis. It is probably fair to say that this fits in well with what many fans feel to be the essence of a motivated, tight-knit squad. Having some investment in doing well for the team, the manage...

Re: Boost The Budget 19/20

Judging by the several small sums that I have seen going in I am tempted to think that this year there is a greater number, above and beyond the usual suspects, who feel moved to contribute in whatever way they can afford. Good on everyone who is willing to do this and share the load.

Re: Boost The Budget 19/20

Hopefully the change of manager has reset the boundaries of what is achievable in BTB. Whilst last year tapped into the core 400 who are prepared to dig deep (yet again) it may be that the recent boost given to the fund on the AA announcement is indicative that more people may still be prepared to i...

If the same 400+ of last year contribute at the same rate as has been made so far the boost could reach 100,000.

So who is under contract then? I make it... Trotman Burn Galbraith Ainge Wheatley Nicholson Thompson Glover I'd try and keep Holness and Elliott if possible, and that's about it. A fair old rebuild required but at the same time there is good quality in most of the few contracted players so a decent...

Re: FC United

From just skimming over the surface of what is going on at FC United and their fall from grace this year, after just about surviving last year, I do begin to fear that this could be Darlo in 12 months time. Less money, lower quality players, a tendency to crumble at home. We may be grateful that the...

Re: Darlington V Stockport

The clear difference between the end of last season and this is the almighty boost that having a reliable goalscorer in your team can make. Had we been able to keep Nelson until the end of the season we would probably be finishing on a high and well away from the drop zone. We badly need someone to ...

Re: Darlington V Chester

Getting away from the discussion on the ramifications of last night's result, and returning to the scene of the crime, I think that the most obvious thing about this and several other home games this season, is the capacity to go a goal down and have no ability to find a way back into the game. How ...

I hope we do get something out of tonight's game as a draw would restore the 10 point gap with one less game to go. So if we were positive about the state of affairs after Saturday's result we should be even more happy with this. A win, however, would give us a four game advantage over FC United, wh...

Whilst being just as interested as the next man at hearing we are bringing in fresh blood to make sure we survive this season, is it churlish to be a bit wary of how this is being managed? To explain, a few weeks ago we had a push to get the 500 club extensions made to plug a gap in the finances to ...

Holness seems a good find, believe it’s his first game in a few months. I bet he’s on a massive contract to get him to play for us. No hope of seeing him next year, but we can hope! Hopefully Holness will be better once he gets into his stride but that will be interrupred when he has to serve his ban for the sending off.
