Re: Caton watch

As the last two performances seem to have convinced at least some of the doubters that they may have been too quick to find fault with Hughes it would appear that there is a vacancy for pantomime villain for the vent of opprobrium when things aren't going ticking boo. Caton has already played a fine...

Re: Darlington v AFC Telford

Just watched the post match interview (see link below)with Gavin Cowan the Telford Manager. Talk about a manager with blinkers on! Yes you have to be super confident and believe in yourself and your team but this guy it a bit over the top. He says Darlington won because they were out fought, yes th...

Re: Darlington v AFC Telford

More Chinese whispers. I don't think any Darlo players were the subject of interest, and after that performance neither were any of the Telford players.

Re: Styche and Ainge

As was usually said in the management training videos - "don't bring me problems, bring me solutions". Why is having more than one way of setting up to play the game proving to be seen as a problem? Surely having the possibility of having a plan B is a positive. How often has it been considered that...

Re: Darlington v AFC Telford

How important is Wheatley to the way we play? Interested to hear thoughts. It doesn't seem a huge coincidence to me that we are a much better side with him in it. We really could use some kind of back up to him, if we can find one. Have to agree about his importance to the side. I noticed several t...

Re: Darlington V Alfreton Match Thread

Looking back at the comments on this and the TW tactics thread there do seem to be enough of our posters who are either wanting or expecting a change of manager as they believe without it our season will be over before it has begun. I confess to being one of those less certain members of our communi...

Re: Darlington V Altrincham Match thread

I think for Ashton we need to do what we did post-Leamington last season - go 4-5-1 (or 4-2-3-1). That worked really well, there was a good transition between defence and attack, nobody really spoke about us being over-run and our form after Leamington was 7-4-3 IIRC. Something along the lines of -...

Re: TW tactics

Well if the feelings being expressed in this thread are suggesting that TW is hell bent on playing open attacking football at the expense of results then perhaps they would prefer a more dour, hard-nosed brand of football. It seems that an opportunity to get back to this style has just opened up.

Re: Brackley Away Sat

Darlo are on a decent run away from home having gone unbeaten for 6 games. The last defeat was to...Brackley. In that game, although we lost 3-0, we played well but lacked a real goal threat without Styche and Thommo. They got a fortunate deflected goal to start with but Darlo had good chances to eq...

And as postscript to the above. If we'd had a couple of better ref decisions and if Elliott's two bar efforts had been a couple of inches lower I suspect we'd have a completely different view of our chances this season.

Re: Darlington FC V Curzon Ashton Match Thread

Lost one game and everyone has went into meltdown; I’ve missed the football season. Can’t wait to get dicked by Spennymoor on Tuesday to see the reactions. Well said. So far a lot of what I have read on this thread could have been cut and pasted from the Salford board this time last year. The loss ...

I thoroughly enjouyed the day. There was a great vibe, and not even the weather stopped the fun. It was good to see some famous faces, and some much loved ones from the past. However, i walked away feeling that this was a wasted opportunity financially. There should have been double that attendance...

I see that York Press are reporting that the deal has been done and he's off to Burnley without any money being given to York. One respondent to the article is still bemoaning the unfairness of having their player taken without compensation!

Re: Vinnie Steels

Have just been reading an article in the York press that seems to wonder at the injustice of having another club make off with one of "their" youth prospects with the likelihood of little or no compensation. Being such a "big" player at our level they probably thought that they were the only ones wi...

Yes I was there and heard the announcement saying the crowd was 802, hence my ' over 800' comment.

Re: Sunderland game tonight

Thought that the over 800 crowd on Saturday was a good turnout so maybe a lot fewer tonight should be too much of a disappointment. If we get 400 to 500 that would be pretty good. On another thought, there has been no word on any potential trialists. No evidence on Saturday that there are plans to b...

Genuine question - where does this "he lacked heart" and "he was pea-hearted" stuff come from? Yes he didn't charge around the pitch like a nutcase. And yes he didn't go barrelling into challenges. But that wasn't and will never be his game. I personally think he did show plenty of "heart" but beca...

Re: Tommy wants 3 new players

Nicholson has looked very good when seen him play, another very good signing. Plenty of energy and goals in his game, as mentioned CM and GK are required. I wonder if we start the season with Heaton as well, clubs are certainly taking an interest in him. On another thread there has been a lot of ru...

Had a great performance at Stockport, both in attack and defence. Thought he was close to being man of the match, helping hold a youthful side together. A great way to bow out. Sad to see him go but his chances to be involved in the team will undoubtedly have been lessened by the emergence of Heaton...

Great work again. I think it helps create a buzz around a promotion or relegation battle to have these fulsome summaries that help the fans see the overall picture in a clear and concise way. Don't know how we would cope with a season of mid table nothingness. That might be beyond any kind of meanin...

Whilst never thinking that winning tonight would realistically give us a tilt at the play offs, I did think it would be important for momentum and the feel good factor. The failure to take that up will not matter in the long run but I fear that it might well cause a few less bob to be raised on the ...

Despite earlier thinking that there was no way for Darlington to make up the ground on play off places, it is interesting to note that had we beaten Boston and Nuneaton, getting at least a plus 3 goal difference in doing so, we would now be on 59 points and be sitting above Spennymoor with one less...

We had Ramshaw on loan from Gateshead and he did reasonably well but then went back to Gateshead and ended up being a regular for them. Hes a good player, simple as that. I know people will disagree with me, but apart from harrying their keeper when the ball was passed back to him, Saunders offered very little when he came on. We need a better option next season. Harvey is an honest worker and puts in a good shift when he is asked but I had hoped to see some real si...

As Ginge has said in his excellent analysis, it is hard to argue against the current bottom three staying there. For all their last two victories, Gainsborough look to be damned by their massive goal difference deficit, which means they have to get at least a win and a draw (more likey two wins) to ...
