Re: Curzon V Darlington
I think the owners at Curzon Ashton are frustrated by the tiny crowds and have spoken about how much more they could do if they were better supported. If it's 140 home fans when they're in contention for the playoffs, you'd have to fear just how low it could go if they were struggling. Mind they can...

Re: The Bottom Seven, Tuesday Feb 27th 2024
Looking at the survival fight, I noticed that Rushall are getting by with loads of loanees. They currently have seven loanees, all aged between 19 and 20, and all from clubs around the Midlands like Derby, Wolves, Walsall, Birmingham and Stoke. Not sure how many of them can feature together in a mat...

Re: Curzon V Darlington
Quite incredibly the Curzon manager has raised the question of whether the keeper could maybe have done a bit better with Hatfield's screamer despite his one-legged display of pain-defying courage and risk of further damage in battling on. If I was him I'd be having some serious words with boss Crai...

Re: Scott Barrow
Barrow knows all about serious injuries during his time as a footballer. Early in his career he fractured his thigh bone and said of that injury: "I was about 5 minutes away from losing my leg. Fortunately, I was well attended to by doctors and I managed to make a recovery, and that is why I enjoy f...

Re: Curzon V Darlington
Particularly when the opposition keeper is playing on one leg. Don't think I've ever seen a keeper having to carry on when they are as hampered as that by injury. He looked to be in agony.

Re: Curzon V Darlington
I'll bet the owners of Curzon Ashton sometimes feel like they're pushing a large boulder uphill in terms of attendances. Last Tuesday's home game with Peterborough Sports attracted just 149 people. Must be a bit demoralising when they compete very well at this level. The ground's excellent (although...

Re: Curzon V Darlington
The Curzon Ashton player-manager Craig Mahon says he expects us to come and defend and concentrate on not losing. Maybe he'll be preparing for the wrong sort of game. I'm sure we'll be going there with attacking intent.

Re: Darlington v Buxton
I thought Buxton were a strange and limited side. Their main (or maybe only) attacking threat seemed to be based largely around bringing their two 6ft 6in defenders forward for set-pieces. I don't recall them playing like that the day they demolished us when AA was absent to look after his son in th...

Re: Darlington v Buxton
To be fair to Craig Elliott he was very fair in his post-match interview and said he thought we played well and deserved our win. I almost felt guilty for telling him to enjoy the journey home

Re: Darlington v Buxton
That was a real cannon-fire of a shot by Nelson to earn the Victory... sorry but it had to be done :D. Pleased that he made amends for Tuesday's misses and played such a key role in a crucial win. It clearly meant a lot to him. Maybe just the confidence booster he needed. We stuck at it despite the ...

Re: More local competition for good players now at Blyth
It's generally accepted that the club has been run with a very modest budget... and there were still losses to be covered by Platten. Unless there are substantially increased income streams and a huge rise in attendances those losses will be magnified if this guy splashes the cash. Blyth probably al...

Re: More local competition for good players now at Blyth
I've seen a suggestion that it was £1 with Platten writing off £700,000 loans. It is therefore said to be debt free. There is still no evidence that this new owner has been linked to successful, long-term companies ie not ones that have been dissolved without filing any accounts. The basis for trust...

Re: Darlington v Buxton
We continue to sign no creativity. What has happened to the £30k+? I would say that both Main and Cornish are very much creative players and very good signings. Just look at the chances Main laid on a plate on Tuesday. Watson also said that Rivers (who can be creative) had looked very lively in tra...

Re: More local competition for good players now at Blyth
You may be right. Blyth are playing at their highest ever level but Platten has had some fearsome stick from some fans after things levelled off or they struggled. Some said he needed to go because he was holding the club back through lack of investment. This new owner said the magic two words "Foot...

Re: More local competition for good players now at Blyth
There still doesn't seem to be any concrete evidence of this new Blyth owner's involvement with any long-term, profit-making, stable companies with healthy balance sheets. He says he is rich and successful and deals with the super wealthy around the world and has promised Blyth the Earth. If that's ...

Re: More local competition for good players now at Blyth
Even just a small amount of research reveals more red flags than a match at Anfield. A fair number of Blyth fans can see behind the flannel and have some grave concerns.

Re: More local competition for good players now at Blyth
I'm sure Blyth have done all the due diligence in the world over this Irfan Liaquat bloke who describes himself as a "Serial entrepreneur, philanthropist and deal maker." Maybe best not to read too much into the fact that his latest business, Winners Worldwide, was only set up less than a year ago w...

I would get Sukar recalled if we can, simple as that. He'll do a job for us. I think that's a better bet than some emergency, untried Academy kid at this stage.

Re: Boston v Darlington 20/02/24
"I thought Darlington were much better than many teams we have played this season and we were fortunate to go in one up at half time, second half we were better and found a way to win." That's a Boston fan's comment on the match and he's right. In the first half, a neutral would have thought we wer...

Just read that following the injury to Hazel, Boston secured the loan signing of Bromley's Adam Marriott who scored an absolute shedload of goals for King's Lynn and Barnet.

Re: South Shields v Darlo
Don't know what the right approach is with this sort of thing... it seems different clubs have different attitudes when there's violence involved. It is quite a subjective call based on the impact of any backlash especially once a person has 'served their time' (as determined by the courts) so to s...

Re: South Shields v Darlo
There was a pretty dramatic ending to one of the weekend games involving the relegation battle. Rushall drew 3-3 with Gloucester and two of their goals were apparently worldies scored by a sub call Sam McLintock. Just two days earlier McLintock, 23, who had his contract cancelled at Boston last year...

Re: v Tamworth
Tamworth were mediocre. As has been said above, how they are top of the league is a complete mystery, I've never seen a less likely physical specimen as their centre half, even in the Northern League. The second worst specimen also plays for Tamworth, their long throw specialist. Then there was the...

Re: South Shields v Darlo
Nah, it was a brutal, disgraceful lunge, deserving of a 10-match ban. I say that in the spirit of pointing out that the Shields fans were Premier League standard whiners, who moaned at everything, stormed out of the ground en masse as soon as we had the audacity to score, have since called us the wo...

8 How many times under Gowling did we bemoan playing well, but not really hurting the opposition? It is kind of happening under Watson now. Never. We never played well under Gowling. Every game was tedious negative plodding dogshit and I hate him for it. Under Watson, although results haven't reall...

Good to eventually take advantage when circumstances went in our favour. Their fans were angry over the reds but both looked fairly clear-cut. We were ruthless as they tired late on but for a long time it looked like they might get away with a backs-to-the-wall 0-0. Possession-wise it must have bee...

Here's just one example of the amounts required of an investor/benefactor/bankroller at the lowest EFL level. Harrogate Town's accounts for the year ended June, 2022 showed total ongoing liabilities of £4.27m and losses for the year of £1.16m. The financial statement says the company will have suffi...
