Re: Darlington v Hereford
Honestly thought 4 weeks into the job and £30k in hand that Watson would have strengthened forward areas by now. Even Cornish looks like he hasn’t played since Oct.! Think JG would have got a load of grief by now in same situation! Anyway, given we haven’t I would try something completely different ...

Re: Boost The Budget January 2024
Totally agree with getting the right player before spending any of this money but how frustrating is this getting? Watching Spenny, Shields, Scarborough, K Lynn amongst others all sign good attack minded players alongside deafening silence at our end is not great. It’s almost the opposite of the JG...

Re: Boost The Budget January 2024
Dont think it is crap at all.
Think it’s another one that splits the fans. Some had enough of him and thought losing him was correct. Others like me think a 20+ natural type of goal scorer 4/5 seasons on trot would have come good and still reckon Watson would have got him firing again.

Re: Boost The Budget January 2024
Interview with DJ following successfully meeting the BTB target. Says we missed out on a striker we thought we were close on who went to a club in our league. Looking at recent movers, presume it was Jonny Margetts who was having an unbelievable season with Matlock in the league below, but signed f...

Re: Recruitment
What an absolute mess we are in aren’t we! Not SW fault and have much sympathy for the state of things he has inherited. Agree also, no point in bringing the wrong players in, Gowling proved that about 14 times! But, by the time we wait another 2 weeks we will have what 14 games left. Presuming we d...

Re: v Tamworth
Easy in hindsight I know, and fully respect all the volunteer board members, but bottom line is that their errors of judgement in last 12 mths have played a large part in our situation. 1. Not backing AA when we were top by not spending the Beck money and wages saved on bringing in a decent replacem...

Re: v Tamworth
Of course we are not going to give in but let’s be realistic here, we probably need to win 10 out of 19 games. We have so far won 5 out of 27 and let’s be honest still don’t look like winning games currently. It would take a turnaround of huge proportions which can only be achieved with an almost im...

Re: v Tamworth
Woeful defending again, the best defensive midfielder in the division and our skipper didn’t challenge and turned his back on the shot!
3 loose balls in our box without a challenge in last two games have given the oppo 3 goals, and while we continue to be Darlington 0 we give ourselves no chance.

Re: v Tamworth
Well we confirmed a couple of things today that probably we knew anyway. 1. This is the weakest division since we came into it. Recently, Scarborough were average at best and how on earth are Tamworth top of the league, they were there for the taking. Shows just how bad we are to be so many points b...

Re: v Tamworth
Bit controversial maybe as personally don't like 5 at back. However given Barrow looks like a proper wing back and the only one to get to byline and get crosses in on Tuesday may be worth trying again as probably the only way with current personnel that we can create any width. If fit, maybe give Wi...

Re: v Tamworth
Id go Curry and Salkeld up front just to try something different and both are a bit, actually a lot quicker, than Asante Nelson. Bring Ngandu back, again just to try a Different midfield. Honestly, really have no idea without any new signings how we will threaten their goal. Actually agree with Ray,...

60% of the possession but zilch threat in front of goal, nuff said really. and yet Redcar Athletic, yes, Redcar Athletic!!, sign Boyes who has scored about 100 goals for Marske and experience at our level. Imagine it was a free so surely we had an interest in him. So frustrated that we don’t seem t...

Re: Southport
[/quote] Gowling made the mistake thinking kids would be the answer, its noticeable Watsons first signing was 35! I think that will be the age range (30+) he will be looking at to get us any chance of survival. Whether he will get enough decent players who want to join in a relegation fight is anoth...

Re: Southport
Just got home from the match. Darlington tried hard, but were awful against a very poor side. Not a single player out there for Darlo who can say they had a decent match. No creativity, no pace, no edge at all. There was no threat going forward. Lots of possession, with either square passes or high...

Re: Southport
Let’s not kid ourselves, we are shocking. Absolutely toothless up front. Beaten yet again by a poor team. Need 2 midfielders who can create and 2 forwards who can get on the end of things or we are as good as down. Sorry to say this but even Hatfield has been awful the last few games and have no ide...

Re: Boost The Budget January 2024
Agree that this BTB may not be quite as succesful. Think a combination of people’s finances being tight and the absolute mess that was made of the £160k is making it a lot more difficult. Think if it gets near £20k it will be a job well done and a lot of confidence needs rebuilding with the decision...

Re: Kings Lynn v Darlington 6/01/24
Great start and 100%+ commitment from all involved.
Barrow was outstanding and puts into perspective some of the previous recent signings.
Get a couple of creative players in and we may just have half a chance.

Re: Good luck Steve Watson
Just seen Hazels goal, fantastic finish. Know we have to move on but what we would give for a front 3 of Felix, Barnes, Hazel going forward. Creativity, pace and a finisher, exactly what Watson has to somehow get back in very quickly. So many very poor mistakes by AA, JG and the board. Quite a task...

This squad will not even get us anywhere near at the level below. Imagine last time we won it we had a core of Brown, White, Burgess, Galbraith, Turnbull, Thompson, Armstrong, Cartman etc. Who of our current squad gets into that one………exactly, none! Every one of those above were winners, would run t...

Re: Darlington V Scarborough
New low for me today, and there have been a few! First time I deep down think we have no chance even with a new manager of avoiding relegation. This is collectively the worst squad by a country mile that we have had for years. Not saying that our players didn’t give their best but we have no creativ...

Re: Who next?
MG is saying all the right things but probably the best route would have been talking to the board behind the scenes. Doing it publicly like this does have the look of backing the board into a corner. Things could be very complicated if others have already been spoken to about the job. His offer do...

Re: Who next?
Think it’s probably bad that Shields and Blyth jobs up for grabs and quite possibly Spenny in near future as sure I read ages ago that their guy was temp until the new year. Imagine any likely candidate for us is also on their list so real bad timing I reckon. Quite probable that likes of Steve Wats...

Re: Who next?
Bit of perspective.
Just seen the South Shields chairman on Twitter having a bit of a spat with a supporter and said “ I’m happy to share the numbers with the fans. Our players/managers budget is c£1m which is about 3x the majority of our competitors”

Re: Boxing Day at Scarborough
Hypothetical, but would have back in a heartbeat. JG clearly peed the guy off and had just about nil support on the field up front. One of his biggest bloomers, replace a 20 goals a season scorer (yes gone off the boil) with someone costing more who cannot run. Anyway enough of his errors. A serious...

Re: JG sacked
Right decision, although not sure about keeping rose! Odds are against us as realistically as probably need to win about 50% of our games which would be a massive turnaround. However, the change gives us a fighting chance. Bring someone in who can unify the fans, players, management again. Have an i...

And who do you suggest we get to replace DJ or are you going to volunteer. These stupid comments actually get worse after every defeat. Some on here need to learn about finance.. We are where we are and have to live with it, the alternative is we could get in a new manager and pay for three manager...

Re: Boxing Day at Scarborough
Some more observations. Asante is an unfit, lumbering disaster and an embarresment to Gowlings judgement. He actually got the ball in 92nd min 6 yds out and showed no desire or fight at all to get a shot. We have basically nil creativity or pace in whole team. We are far too easily pushed off the ba...
