Re: Gray joins york city
I must admit I don't like the York chairman's quote that MG has achieved results 'Without the benefits or infrastructure that we have here". I do hope that MG hasn't told him that, but where has he got it from? Twice fans have put money into the club to keep them going as MG has overspent the budge...

Re: Hopes for the rest of the year
I feel no particular excitement in Gregan and Atkinson taking charge, I think its just the cheapest option. We can't sack them and we can't afford a new manager. Its usually the case that a manager takes his back room staff with him to a new club, so we'll have to wait and see what transpires in tha...

Re: Gray joins york city
You'll get caught on the break, a lot. Gray liked full-backs to go forward and they do so without any discipline whatsoever, so you'll have both full backs deep in the opposition half at once. Unless you have some full backs with a brain of course. Never sorted out these kind of defensive problems i...

Re: Gray gone
Perhaps Martin tendered his resignation and we accepted. No strings attached. Clearly this decision wouldn't be in the club's best interests and if an 'official' took this decision despite full knowledge of York's interest in Martin then it would amount to maladministration. I don't know anything a...

Re: Curzon Aston v Darlington match thread
We couldn't afford to get rid of Gray unless he walked away. Isn't it on a 5 year contract? We just have to trim our budget and live within our means, and that includes the budget that goes on paying for a manager, an assistant manager, a coach and a goalkeeping coach. So many staff is a luxury we c...

Re: Curzon Aston v Darlington match thread
Who's mad idea was it to rearrange a match we did not have to play, when we had a crop of injuries. Those lads could have had an extra week to get back to full fitness & not compromise themselves by playing when they really shouldn't. This absolutely. Why arrange a game when we are so b...

On what basis has Thompson deseved a start? Looks like a poor line-up with a defence full of players who can't defend. It probably means we'll win3-0 of course!

Re: Seat Ground Development Fund for between £10 & £99
Well, just over 20k left to find! Be interesting to know if we have any monies from the cup match to add in or if there's a lump sum from our memberships? Perhaps we've saved on the playing budget and that can be added. I think if we can get reasonably near the target we'd all chuck a bit more in t...

Re: TOUGH TIMES AHEAD
More time on our hands now we are out of the FA Cup! Hopefully time to regroup, rethink tactics & recuperate.......otherwise relegation beckons. :( Never in a million years will we be relegated. I know things are negative right now but if I had to bet I would put money on us having the seats in pla...

Re: Short-termism
Indeed, if we fail to build the seats then its going to be very difficult to persuade people to turn up to watch a team with zero hope of progression. Even if you are a poor side, expectations can rise after a good result and the hope (even faint) of promotion is never completely vanished. If we can...

Re: Another Problem to be Resolved?
Its a shame, Wayne was one of the few people involved with the club who filled me with any confidence, and he comes out of the last few years with integrity.
It seems like we still have no long term plan then.

Re: Short-termism
One puzzling issue with Singh was why he would be interested in investing in the club without its own ground and little income. One of the possible motivations was that the club could be used as a way to bring through younger players from the MG academy and sell them on. Also, if the MG academy prom...

Re: New Team?
Who you want to keep has to be largely dependent upon what kind of wages they command. I suspect those who have played at a higher level will be getting better wages. Could pay get two younger players for the same as you pay Turnbull? Does he deliver enough to justify his place?

Re: So, where do we go from here
If we have to start triming the budget, which we will, then do we really need such a large coaching staff? Gray, Gregan and Atkinson together must take up a fair perecentage of the budget. I'm guessing a manager and one assistant would be typical at this level?

There is no urgency to get promoted. We need to sort our stadium out and never make a loss again before we can consider a push for promotion and going full time is a long way away. Re: Darlington FC V South Shields Match Thread
I donated because I thought that it was important to keep the squad competitive while we raised funds for the stand. I also contributed towards the stand as well. We also put the gate price up £2 to keep Gray's budget the same. However, that's now backfired, as our crowds have gone down as a result...

Re: TOUGH TIMES AHEAD
If there were investors who had the best interest of the club at heart they would have come forward at any point over the last 14 years. That hasn't happened as they don't exist!! So any interested investor sees us a cash cow ready to be milked. Remember, if an investor comes onboard many of the vo...

People need to get real. Martin Gray has been fantastic for this club. In fact, the best manager we've ever had. This is the first tough patch he's had and he'll (we'll) come through it. Having said that, today was diabolical and changes on the pitch need to be made. Sent from my iPhone using Tapat...

Re: Darlington FC V South Shields Match Thread
Today just confirmed what people feared, that we are in for a very tough 12 months, maybe the most frustrating since 2012. We were 80K overspent at the end of last season and I'm pretty sure that based on gates so far we are looking at a very big black hole in the accounts at the end of this one too...

Correct. Gray wanted a bigger budget and yet he can never deliver a cup run and give us a return on the investment.
When Gray said we were a laughing stock at the fans forum, is this what he meant?
