Re: Do The Wright Thing
I can't see us changing Wright at this stage if we stay up (which should be likely), I just don't see him learning from what most seem to be able to see. Not if Ashton Utd pull off potential results like currently, if they beat Chorley we'll only be 6pts ahead. No doubt we'll get humped by Chorley ...

Re: Darlington V Brackley
It was probably supposed to be as much a 4-4-1-1 as anything last night but invariably it was a 4-5-1 most of the time which meant when anyone in midfield got the ball with an opponent in their face the only forward option we had was Ainge who isn't physically able to get behind anyone, can't run th...

Re: Darlington V Southport match thread
Well first of all I'm not claiming that he is going to be a success, maybe he won't be - I just think he needs more than a couple of games here and a couple of games there. I think he is very good in the air and for some reason every man and his dog seems to ignore this - but yes he could do with a...

Re: Darlington V Southport match thread
Unfortunately, we’re in a position where our attacking threat looks consistently greater when our first choice forward isn’t playing up front. I don’t know if it’s fitness, confidence, style, tactics, partnerships, injury or whatever - but it is a statement of fact from what we’ve all seen this sea...

Re: Thoughts on Kneeshaw?
Thought he looked decent last time around at the level we were at. I read something in another thread recently suggesting his attitude wasn’t right but I have to say that is not my recollection. I hope his trial goes well and he can add something.

Re: Where we are after 25 league games
I guess it's slight progress overall although in fairness off quite a reduced wage bill. There wasn't really a lot of room for error with the summer's recruitment and unfortunately some of the marquee signings Les mentions above have been poor so far. I'd hope that this is the last season we take ch...

Re: Tommy's interview - seething
Thing is, we’re competing against some teams that are training full time, so the limited time the team are together has to be tight as a drum to minimise the disadvantage we already have.

Re: Arena Sports Village
I really am baffled as to why the council want to chuck money at this project for mowden. I don't get it at all. Don't forget, freeing up the site generates a lot of housing stock. The stadium site is only about 30% or so of the total area under discussion here. Also, if the initial plans that were...

Re: Trophy game on Friday
Should be an interesting game on Friday. Tbh I think the club made the right call on the game time and pricing. Hopefully we can get at least 1000 in to watch us under the lights. As for the game. Well judging on league position it should be a tough one. Telford have continued their good early form...

Unfortunately, recruitment over the summer has not helped. Ainge and Burn have been very disappointing signings so far.

Re: Wilson Kneeshaw
Well we let Lewis Wing Andy Curtis Edwards go too so I’m not sure that argument stands up.
To be honest I’d be interested due to our lack of bodies and being worth a punt rather than assuming he’s going to be a guaranteed world beater.

Re: Styche gone this week
Assuming we have had to make some savings to balance the books I think this is a sensible way to deal with it. When Styche was good we were good but when he was bad we were awful. He is a talismanic figure with high charisma but probably also quite a big ego. To raise similar cash we'd have to relea...

Re: FC United V Darlington match thread
Since the start of September Saunders has been head and shoulders our best attacking player. Despite being played out of position most of the time. Plus, we are a better team when he leads the line.

Re: Darlington v Stockport
The respect is that he’s constantly re-invented himself as we’ve gone through the leagues in order to stay both at the club and in the team. Arguably the first choice centre back at the club 6 years and 3 divisions after he was signed as a left back. Let’s not kid ourselves that he can still play a...

Re: 10 games in
Injuries and suspensions haven’t help us. I think we’re a good team when we’re not battling injuries or suspensions. We obviously lack depth and the decision to go with a smaller squad is perhaps a debate for another day. That said we’ve probably got two players on our books who may or may not play...

Re: Southport v Darlington
Having watched the match highlights I was surprised that what was being talked of as a stone wall penalty for Darlo was dismissed by the commentary team as certainly not a spot kick. From what I saw it appeared to be a good shout but they had the benefit of seeing it as the ref would have in real t...

Re: Styche and Ainge
There’s only one decision to be made so far as I can see and that’s Styche or Saunders. I like a Styche a lot and he’ll probably get the nod but I don’t think it’s as straightforward as most on here seem to reckon. Styche gives you guile and cunning, Saunders gives you pace and mobility. Aside from ...

Re: Darlington v AFC Telford
Going to be a tough game against a team that are unbeaten this season. Hopefully with Boro and Newcastle on an international break a few more faces can come down to BM. Listening to Tommy's interview he says a couple are back from injury + Wheatley back from suspension, and that Ainge will be going...

We were totally embarrassed through the middle of the park, it was laughable - then add in to that a centre half who spent the whole game running away from the ball. Totally bullied.

Re: Josh Gillies
Good player on his day was Gillies, of that there’s no doubt. Decent crosser of the ball although only after cutting inside and at times had a good set piece delivery. However you can see that Tommy is trying to make us a more athletic team. He wants pace and energy in his players to support a team ...

Re: Tommy wants 3 new players
Paul Woolston released by Newcastle. I know TW has (apparently) got a move for a goalkeeper from a Championship club lined up, but he could be an option should this not materialise. Had a good loan spell in 2016 at this level with us I seem to remember. Isn’t that the lad from Darlington? He looked...

Re: Temp Seats at HP
Great piece of work by Lee and the team which shows how professional we are these days. It puts to bed the argument that we can somehow just send over some volunteers and bring them back to BM which has done the rounds plenty. Most people on here and on social media seem to be against bringing them ...
