Re: Performance tonight
Tommy is still not quite up to his old standard, although as I say, the one he hit off the post was an absolute screamer that put last season's shot-shy wasters to shame. The Moore question was one that I was considering tonight too. He didn't exactly set the match alight when he came on, but we all...

Performance tonight
Good performance all round tonight, with two good goals and another well taken penalty from Arnison. Hatch's injury really put a downer on things, as he was the best player on the park, as usual, until he went off. Man for man: Russell - looks far more solid in commanding his box, but wasn't really ...

Re: Liam Hatch
I heard it was a broken elbow from a mate in the press box. He was on the bench for a few minutes after the injury getting treatment there, then presumably off in the ambulance. It looked a fairly innocuous challenge at the time, but he stayed down and went off very gingerly.

I had forgotten how amazing that goal was. What a bloody hit. The build up play's good as well - who plays the first time cross-field ball to Wainy from left-back?

Re: Gavin caines
From a championship club, who had wanted to keep him? Don't think Foz is a good comparison. Still, I don't think there's any point writing anyone off before we've seen them. No, he meant he was an outcast when he left here, not when he came here. There can be more to a player being an outcast than ...

Re: The Worst Darlo Player Ever
He was a regular in a team that came eight two seasons in a row, so I don't think you can class him as the worst Darlo player ever. He was shyte though, no denying it. Nothing on Whelan/Deane/Chisholm/Kane/Bains/Knight/McMahon etc etc though. Funny how all but one of those you've just listed were p...

Re: The Worst Darlo Player Ever
Dan Burn Only saw him play once Harsh. Also harsh to pick on Dickman. He was woeful, but scored just enough semi-decent goals to pull himself away from the worst ever tag. The one into the top corner against Cheltenham in the end-of-season game we could have got into the play-offs (04-05?) springs ...

Re: Paul Arnison Interview
Arnison was really poor when first joined - regularly got caught out of position, let players in behind him, and lost the offside line. He really picked up when brought back in at the end of the season, possibly because he was playing in a properly drilled defence, and looking at how ordered the bac...

I think we're getting the synopsis in instalments here Quakerz.
Bit worried about Senior. Innocuous challenges leading to injuries always seem to end up being the ones that proper knacker a player's season.

What did Werling and Chandler say? Werling - Signed up to play for Darlington not Davey , impressed by the stadium and the club, wants to help get us up. Chandler - Spoke to other clubs but only wanted to come to Darlo once he knew we were interested, felt embarresed about playing in the team last ...

Re: Northern Echo
The trouble is that Darlo is something of an oddity in that it doesn't have a newspaper dedicated to it. The D&S hardly counts, because it's more a North Yorkshire paper, and the Echo itself is dedicated to the whole North East. It's a strange situation, particularly for a town of its size, but it's...

Re: BBC Tees
I'd regard that as a pretty decent h/t result.
Relative levels of strength in depth to be exposed second half, you suspect, but that's still nothing to sniff at.
Did Ray say how Hatch and Wright are combining?
Which Smith is it on the bench? Gary, presumably?

Anybody know anything of the trialists? All I've got to go on are the words Thompson Porter Hopson and Cornforth on the official site. Or are some of those youthies?
Can't get the commentary going either, I'm stuck in work. This is very frustrating.

Re: Shrimpers to be the Darlo of 2011
As I understood it Sainsbury's has been acquiring the club piece by piece as it pays of more debts in exchange for bits. Presumably that isn't with a view to running the club in the long term, so I do fear for their future. A bit on them in here, a good article as ever on twohundredpercent. http://w...

Did I read today that they are undr a transfer embargo too? Looks like they'll be sending out the kids - if they're lucky - on August 7. Very sad to see a decent little club like Southend facing such troubles.

Indeed. And it's probably fair to say that all being well, we'd be in with a decent shout for getting him on a free next summer.

How will Waite do this season?
I'm very interested to see how GW turns out this year. He looked decent in Staunton's ill-conceived hotch-potch of a team, but had a tendency to miss decent chances when breaking from midfield. So since we have plenty of midfielders who aren't exactly prone to scoring goals galore, can we expect Wai...

Re: Lumsdon has DEFINITELY left.
Probably a pretty substantial wage as well. It is a shame he was always injured, as he could have been an important player for us (until he would have been sidelined by Staunton and reintroduced by Lidds later on). Still, Todd could have realised it was likely Lumsdon would be a crock by his record ...

Re: How did you end up supporting Darlo
When I was 7, I had a dream that one day I would get to see Tommy Wright (who was probably about four at the time) and Liam Hatch playing together up front for Darlington. Even though I lived in Gdansk, and had never even heard of England, I knew this big man/bigger man combo would be unmissable, pa...

Re: David Dowson
I don't think he'd do too badly there. For all his time here was a bit of a disaster, I got the feeling he could tuck the ball away when given opportunities - he just didn't get many in a team that wasn't creating anything. Plenty of areas of his game need working on, but where's there a 20-year-old...

what a catch if out of the batch we could sign liam hatch before the first match . starting from scratch back on our patch onto loose balls he'd latch and hopefully score the goals necessary to fire us straight back into the football league at the first attempt . a massive signing for us if it come...

Re: Chris Moore
I don't mind Moore, he looked more effective than Mulligan or Convery, although that does't tell you that much. The big question for me is this. Had he not been given a contract until next summer by Staunton, would he have been released by Davey? I have an inkling he would have been kept on, and dra...
