Why would Stockdale be third choice? Schwarzer is coming to the end of his contract, is old, and has stated numerous times he wants to finish his career in Australia. The current bunch do have potential to be very good - there are a lot of promising players like Wilshere, Jones, Sturridge who can form the basis of a strong International team in time.
