Scarborough AFC
Some interesting reading on how they are re-building the cub and plans for new stadium and community facilities. Perhaps some good information on fundraising also.
They are currently top of the Northern Counties East hoping for promotion to step 4 Northern Premier League Division One North.

Re: Scarborough AFC
Visited them earlier in the season, seemed a well run club. I am sure we could learn a lot from them.
They are having problems with getting their new ground back in the town, and currently share with Bridlington.

Re: Scarborough AFC
Look like they have a decent little set up there, noticed there was nearly a 1,000 fans at their derby against Bridlington recently, and are getting between 400 - 600 at home games, so they have got a good following.
If we both go up makes for a good and localish awayday next season, which will be handy as a lot of the away games will be in the North West.

"In the early days of our existence many of us were tempted to simply look backwards at the old Scarborough Football Club; to lament its past glories, and to try and recapture what we had lost. There are still those in the town who are focused on the past and who cannot yet see a joined up future. I will continue to hold out the olive branch in the hope that they will reach out and grasp it, but as I wrote earlier, this business plan must look to the future"

Wasn't there another breakaway club after Scarborough Athletic formed? I would assume that this is the club the comment is about.princes town wrote:"In the early days of our existence many of us were tempted to simply look backwards at the old Scarborough Football Club; to lament its past glories, and to try and recapture what we had lost. If you take away the large crowd for the derby game they are averaging less than 400!
5 years and counting outside of Scarborough.
Re: Scarborough AFC
What were Scarborough's attendances like before they dissolved? Can't seem to find records anywhere online!? Also a bit different given they had the Athletic/Town debacle.

Makes no difference at all. Scarborough Town's last home league game attendance was 47. The previous home league game was 36. And they play in Scarborough.
Scarborough FC were getting between 3500 and 4500 when last in the conference! (1999 - 2006).
Re: Scarborough AFC
Hey, it's a fair warning!
I wasn't aware a) how well attended Scarborough were and b) how badly attended Scarborough Town are!
It does illustrate the element of urgency to get back to Darlo.

However, it should be pointed out that Scarborough Athletic started out with about 300 - 400 fans and have at least maintained that.
Re: Scarborough AFC
Rubbish, they were getting just about 4 figures, if not less - their ground didn't hold more than 4,000 at best.Fibonacci0112358 wrote:lo36789 wrote:What were Scarborough's attendances like before they dissolved? They might have been getting 2,500 - 3,000 in the Conference in the 80s but never in recent times.
Andrew Milne plays for them, and his dad is less than complimentary about some of the miserable old bastards that follow them, but is also disappointed that their crowds rarely top 400. Think there's a bit of a big club mentality amongst the fans but they are up against quite a few teams who are "throwing money at it", which of course is all relative and from what I understand not comparable with NL clubs. The NCEL is not a historically strong league.

Rubbish eh??
Then I will suggest you check your figures.
1999/00 Conference V Doncaster Rovers. ATT: 3510.
2002/03 Conference V Dagenham & Redbridge. ATT: 3435.
2004/05 Conference V York City. ATT: 4586.
2005/06 Conference V York City. ATT: 4057.
They were averaging a bit more than just under 4 figures.
Not one season in the conference was under 4 figures in their last years there. (1999/00 - 2005/06).
In fact it was in the 80's that they averaged less than 1000. Alliance Premier League & Gola League to be precise.
Re: Scarborough AFC
Then I apologise wholeheartedly. I didn't check because I didn't think they got anywhere near that. Though to be fair, you've picked arguably 3 of the biggest games they could have at that level.Fibonacci0112358 wrote:Mullet69 wrote:Rubbish, they were getting just about 4 figures, if not less - their ground didn't hold more than 4,000 at best.Fibonacci0112358 wrote:lo36789 wrote:What were Scarborough's attendances like before they dissolved? Edit, after doing a bit of digging I found this http://www.seadogsfans.co.uk/X34Attendances.htm - whilst quite a bit lower than the big gates you quoted above, I must admit the averages are a good few hundred higher than I originally though.

I think their average attendances between those dates were anything from just over 1100 to just over 1700.
Re: Scarborough AFC
This is a bit of a different picture!
Scarborough were never anywhere near as well supported as us and don't have the 'league' history that we have.
The fact they have maintained what they started with in their respective division is actually a positive more than anything as it suggests we won't go much lower than what we have now even if we have 3 or 4 years outside of Darlo!

Scarborough Town and Athletic are an example of what damage a divided supporter base can cause. Look how long its taken Scarborough Athletic to get competetive enough to challenge for their leagues title!

Being somewhat geographically isolated anyway and playing 17 Miles from Scarborough will of course have a big impact on their gates although they were running a coach to home games costing £2.
I do remember when they were in the football league that their gates were one of if not the lowest.
They even have the same kit supplier as us although it seems that have a better range from Macron

Re: Scarborough AFC
In the year that Scarborough dropped out of the league my son was mascot at their game at Feethams.
A recently patched up and relayed Feethams, which had so many lumps, bumps, dips and troughs in it that I felt giddy just walking across it.
I remember standing in the centre circle listening to a man dressed up like a seagull moaning to the referee about the pitch condition - Bizarre!
We won, 2 nil, I think.

So is Andrew Milne, the right back we had on loan from Leeds a couple or three years back. So three Darlo connections there.Makka Pakka wrote:James Bennett and Matt "I think we've got a player there" Plummer are there.

Rudy Funk has to be the best manager name ever.

Milne was decent enough from memory - he was with us when TFWB was in charge if I remember rightly.

Staunton signing mate, Staunton was his boss at Leeds youth or reserves or something. MotM on his debut then got crocked in the 5-0 away at Torquay if i remember rightly.
