Good luck to them, Hope it works for them...
Other clubs at risk of going down the kermit should take a look at Macc Town to how it is done

Re: Macc saved from going under
I live down this neck of the woods and heard on Monday they were 4 days from closure. Council stepped in as they didnt want the town to be without a club.
Supportive council - we can only dream!!!!!
To be fair to Macc thought they've lost 7 first teamers to other clubs, have no youth set up and relied heavily on loan players brought in by ex manager and all round general tosspot Steve king! So whilst the club is safe I can see them doing a Stockport this year.

“We are incredibly proud of their achievements and it is unfortunate that they have succumbed to the financial pressures exacerbated by our current economy. But they are not the first football club to run into difficulties.
“It is in times like this that Council’s can and should play a part, after all the club is incredibly important to the town’s identity and adds to the visitor economy enormously, providing much-needed jobs and prosperity.

Wish our council had the same mindset, then again they do, but thats for mowden park and not DFC

Can we not persuade some of their councillors to come & stand for election in Darlo?knoxy5000 wrote:“We are incredibly proud of their achievements and it is unfortunate that they have succumbed to the financial pressures exacerbated by our current economy. Why not do the reverse, and do what Charlton fans did successfully a few years ago and get Darlo fans to stand for election.joejaques wrote:knoxy5000 wrote:“We are incredibly proud of their achievements and it is unfortunate that they have succumbed to the financial pressures exacerbated by our current economy. If fans standing in the elections got sufficient votes, even without being elected it would force the council to realise the strength of feeling in the area to the football club
The Valley Party
Give us back our home!
Political Campaign Slogan, The Valley Party
Not to be put off, the fans formed 'The Valley Party', a political party with a simple one-issue manifesto, to secure Charlton Athletic Football Club's return to The Valley.
Into the Valley
Betrothed and divine
Opening line of 'Into the Valley' by The Skids
It was a move which paid off. In the 1990 local government elections, The Valley Party fielded 60 candidates contesting all but two of the seats and, with 14,838 votes cast their way, won a respectable 10.9% of ballot. The upshot was that in April 1991, the sought-after planning permission for the redevelopment works was granted and on December 5, 1992, after 2,632 days in exile, Charlton played their first game at the Valley, winning 1-0 against Portsmouth FC.

I'm not sure how long away the next elections are in Darlington though.
Also this is perhaps not the approach to take if the council are being co-operative and trying to help as it is likely to alienate them from the club's cause
Re: Macc saved from going under
Ok I know everyone likes to council bash. As far as I am aware the council have been quite supportive since we became fan owned. Given we felt first hand the negotiation skills of RS is it any surprise that relations were strained previously?
Macclesfield have a stadium! That is the major difference there is not much the council could have done to stop us losing ours bar making MPRFC make a contribution to a new home for us in return for the extra land given to then. Would that really have been fair on a community rugby team?

Re: Macc saved from going under
Whilst I concur that council bashing isn't really appropriate and has little to do with the mess we found ourself in, the Feethams scenario, regardless of whether we ever play there again is a disappointment - they should never have allowed planning for houses on there
Re: Macc saved from going under
Agreed. Then again football club had moved to an out of town arena (which was built on greenfield land) they effectively had a brownfield plot on their hands in the centre of town.
Should they have let Reynolds leave Feethams? Probably not in hindsight, what would our reaction have been to the council back then!?

Re: Macc saved from going under
The council could have possibly blocked the development at the Arena site, but the council's powers are not such as to enable them to force the club to stay at a site.lo36789 wrote:Agreed. If the council refused planning permission for a new site because they wanted to prevent club leaving its existing one, that would be ultra vires and hence an illegal act on behalf of the counsel

at the end of the day the club moving to the arena left a site in the centre of town unused. If housing is what came forward wanting to use it you can see why they let them do it!
