I am not sure a 'legitimate' out of court settlement is really headline worthy given most of what is being talked about.

I am more embarrassed for the FAI than anyone with this headline. That they wanted to take legal action over a handball decision.

Quite impressive reportedly cost $25m to make and it has lost $26.8m! (Yes I used the lower cost estimate for comic effect)

Probably be written off as a tax loss anyway. Do you think they'll dare put a claim in to the IRS?

Does anyone really think he'll change his mind about stepping down?

Maybe he's cleared his traces and is confident that nothing else can come back on him?

A criminal investigation has now opened against Blatter.

This surely must the end of extra time for old Sepp!

In a normal organisation, he'd be suspended and would have stepped down.

But in FIFA, where outside of Europe he's incredibly popular, he'll probably cling on.

I just hope this latest crisis drags in his stooge Platini and ruins his chances of taking over.

Yeah that's what I was referring to. I just hope it sticks and kills his election chances before they've started.

Platini would be a menace to the game as president.

I was watching football focus and Lawrenson et al were effectively saying that it's not Platini's fault that someone paid him late for work. He shouldn't be dragged into it.

The whole thing is a bit weird. What on earth was the 'piece of work' Michel Platini personally did as Blatter's technical advisor in 2002 that was worth £1.35m.

I can't work out whether it is the late payment that is the thing which is dodgy, or if it is the fact that the value of the payment is at adds with what was done (and thus it wasn't a favourable contract for FIFA). There are contrasting reports.

Platini's side of the story appears to be the payment was for the work done between 1999 and 2002. In which case, why would an internationally renowned football personality wait nine years for a payment so large?

Maybe it's me being a cynic, but the payment was in 2011, so just a few months after the World Cup votes and just before the 2011 presidential election. Coincidence?

And once again, this shows up the FA and Greg Dyke as being hopeless once again. The FA have pledged their support to a man now under investigation by FIFA. Another smart move.

This might seem really stupid but does Platini get to vote? He is head of a confederation for some reason I thought the World Cup/Presidential election was a vote of nations instead.

The European vote seems an oddly visible, expensive and worthless vote to try and sway for me. It seems strangely risky when you could probably guarantee the outcome a lot more easily and cheaply from elsewhere.

£450k a year? Not a bad contract.

No, it's not you being a cynic, and it won't have been a coincidence. Platini not only withdrew from the presidential race after that but urged Europe to vote for Blatter, and he also happened to vote for Qatar for the World Cup.

Of course they'll deny all of it, because they would've planned for this eventuality years ago, and with the amount of money they have accumulated over the years, they can afford the best lawyers to speak and think for them.

The farce continues.

Jack Warner has been banned from all football activities, a mere four years after being allowed to resign "with the presumption of innocence."

The ban should have been handed out 15 years ago.

And now talk of criminal proceedings being opened against Platini as well.

A total circus.

FIFA sponsors call for Blatter to step down immediately:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34430729

Perhaps he could pay them a little bit of money to keep quiet, but claim it was for a Happy Meal he bought in 1987 but forgot to pay for.

Meanwhile, despite 3 of the main sponsors calling for him to go, and also facing a criminal investigation, Blatter is still refusing to go
