They aren't going down without a fight though since they're both appealing and still proclaiming their innocence.

I think they think we're stupid. The whole world can clearly see why that payment was made to Platini and why it was made at that time, and it definitely wasn't for services rendered 10+ years earlier.

Why was it a verbal contract? Why not write it down? Why would Platini accept such a contract without it being in writing? Why was he finally given this payment at that particular time when they'd been making massive profits every year after Platini left the service of Blatter? Why did Platini withdraw from the presidential race, pledge his support to Blatter, and vote for Qatar all after being paid that sum of money?

Plus they were both apparently oblivious to all of the corruption going on around them, despite them being at the top and in charge of their organisations.

Like I said, I think they think we're stupid.

Furthermore at the meeting where this "verbal contract" was supposedly agreed -none of the other people present can remember anything this conversation.

Blatter and Platini thought they were untouchable, in fact it seems by their indignation, they still do.

Platini's been blubbing in the press today about how unfair it is that the ethics committee has just woken up.

"What was the Fifa ethics committee doing between 2011 when I was paid and 2015?" said Platini. "Was it sleeping?" .

This is wrong on so many levels! Does he not want it to be awake? (silly question)

As I understand it, the rules re Swiss bank accounts have changed lately whereby investigators and law enforcement people can now look into previously secret accounts to see what's been going on. This is to stop money laundering.

They looked into an account belonging to a Monsieur M Platini and found one huge credit from FIFA - but strangely enough this large payment (two million Swiss francs or if you like £1.35m, $2m) was nowhere to be found in FIFA's books. It didn't exist.............

Bloody investigators eh Michel! Always investigating and poking about where they're not wanted.

I gather the press conference the other day was not an official FIFA conference but Blatter had just hired the room out himself as a private citizen, then turned up with his own football.

Its just weird and getting more and more tragic a it goes on, he is totally blind to any wrong doings and perhaps that partly as the rest of the political football world has let him get on with it. I doubt it would have got this far if not for the US becoming ticked off with him.

So, we now have a new President of FIFA. Blatter's gone and he won't be coming back, Platini's gone too and it's very unlikely we'll see much of him either.

Blatter hung on until the bitter end but it would seem the 'disloyal' payment to Platini finally did for him. No doubt other stuff will later emerge.

If the new leaders have any sense they will note that the world is watching and act accordingly.

Does it not bother you that it's Platini's "apprentice"that's got the job?

Next in the line of succession?

I didn't know about the "apprentice" thing - anyway I was an apprentice once, didn't like my boss and didn't turn out like him.

Let's give him a chance eh :|

Good luck to Infantino, he'll need it. Let's hope he doesn't bring along any baggage with him.

I've always been firmly of the belief you can tell the cut of a man's jib by the company he keeps -

Why?

I always thought political gimic appearances like this didn't really impress anybody - clearly I was wrong.

Are you the reason that George Osborn and David Cameron persist in disrupting building sites and hospitals around the country, because there are actually people who reflect positively on those images.

When I see Osbourne on site with his safety goggles, hard hat, high vis vest, inane grin, brick trowel facing upwards, pretending to listen.

I sigh.

Just fancy that!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36445879
Former high-ranking Fifa officials Sepp Blatter, Jerome Valcke and Markus Kattner awarded themselves pay rises and bonuses worth $80m (£55m) over five years, say Fifa lawyers.

Blatter spills the beans on dodgy goings-on at UEFA.

(But nothing like that at FIFA, it should be stressed)
