Women's World Cup
Women's World Cup
Is anybody else watching it?
All I can say is wow. I don't really know what to compare it to in terms of how mismatched teams are.
I am not sure if this is the right way to push the women's game - unless it will inspire others to say "I could do better than that".

Re: Women's World Cup
Someone has texted me to say that the Germany game tonight reminds him of Darlo Scoring at will in the Northern League!
I like Women's football and enjoyed the Olympic games matches I saw at Newcastle, some of these games were more exciting than the men's.

Re: Women's World Cup
There are a few good teams and the rest are pretty mediocre. The idea to extend the numbers of teams competing could backfire, especially if teams are getting thumped each time they play.

The men's team haven't taken any notice of the lessons handed out to them by other men's teams. What makes you think they'll learn anything from the women?

Re: Women's World Cup
I've said for a long time, and I stand by this, albeit slightly slower paced, women's football is technically very very good.
What seems to let it down, is goalkeeping. I don't know what it is, perhaps a height issue, the physicallity of the female form, or perhaps just having smaller hands, but I have yet to see a convincing female goalkeeper for anyone.

Re: Women's World Cup
I certainly agree with your second point - and I think it probably is largely a size issue. Women, on average, are 6" shorter than men, so in theory their reach will be at least 6" less which is quite significant really in a goal that is nearly 100" in height.dickdarlington wrote:I've said for a long time, and I stand by this, albeit slightly slower paced, women's football is technically very very good.

We will be playing at the arena again next season - fact.
Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

Re: Women's World Cup
Got a couple of people on Facebook posting ridiculous status updates about this earlier today and how they have more passion than the men etc etc
I really do despair at times

Re: Women's World Cup
Interest is growing in the women's game. I am out on the line for Man City v Birmingham City in the WSL next Sunday and I do wonder if there will be any attendance spikes after the World Cup.
Genuinely think this is a gap that as a football club we should look to fill. If we could start appealing to the female market as well as the male that is a huge increase in our fan base. Women's games play Sunday/Summer with men's on a Saturday so they won't be competing.
Probably be commercially more rewarding that a reserve team!

Darlo RA have had a women's team apparently for a while? I've really enjoyed the England women's football and they were unlucky last night.

Well done to our girls for beating Germany and coming 3rd in the competition. They were unlucky to lose to Japan too.

I've really enjoyed this world cup, the attitude of all the players has been a breath of fresh air - and the England performance was an unexpected pleasant surprise.

Re: Women's World Cup
The 4th goal scored by the USA was scored from the halfway line. The 3rd goal was pretty tasty as well. Both goals on from about 1:30 onwards in the highlights below.
