The underdog has it's day.
Fantastic result for Iceland who won in Holland 0-1. They look likely to qualify for Euro 2016 at the expense of Holland, who at best might qualify for the play-offs. How the mighty fall.

The underdog has it's day.
My Dutch relatives are distraught!
However, they'll still likely finish third which is enough for a playoff spot in the new expanded format.
I can see them drawing Scotland/Ireland and eliminating them.

Re: The underdog has it's day.
I watched it - great game and well deserved. Holland didn't play so badly, but the Icelandic keeper looked as safe as houses.
Gudjohnsen was playing too - amazingly nearly 20 years after his debut for Iceland when, interestingly, he came on as a substitute for his father in an away game in Estonia. Sadly he broke his ankle after that and by the time he returned to the national team his father had retired, so they never got to play side by side in an international.

It's amazing what a country can do, with a population of around 300k. Gone are the days when you just had to turn up to beat some of the lower ranked sides.

I think you'd better check up how your Dutch relatives are - Turkey just stuffed them 3-0Beano wrote:My Dutch relatives are distraught!

The consensus is that the players think they're better than they are and arrogance has been their downfall.
I think Iceland qualifying after drawing with Kazakhstan was the icing on the cake.
There will be a lynch mob!

Apparently Iceland are the smallest country to qualify for the European Cup and they rise to 23rd in the world rankings and ahead of countries like France, Ukraine and Russia. Football will never be the same again.

The rankings are a total joke.

I agree there are plenty of teams that are ranked higher or lower than they should be. Look at Wales above England for instance.Beano wrote:The rankings are a total joke.

I've got a feeling that Holland will still finish third. Turkey have got two very tricky games left.Beano wrote:Mr_Tibbs wrote: I think you'd better check up how your Dutch relatives are - Turkey just stuffed them 3-0

Having said that, Czech Rep and Iceland have already qualified so don't really have anything to play for.

The fear is that they'll play experimental sides, as I hope England will do, to test fringe players rather than win points.
