Warrington
I say 2-0 to Darlo; three points, clean sheet and forget all that Chorley stuff. We could also have something else to debate then endless interpretation of various posts.

Re: Warrington
Totally agree, we must get together and get behind the team and coaching staff as the next two are massive and winnable IMO , ill go 2-1 to us with Asante scoring on his home debut
Re: Warrington
Pleased to see some welcome positivity for a change. I don’t care about the score as long as we win, but I do agree these 2 games do feel really important as a barometer of where our season is heading. If we don’t win at least one I think the knives will be well and truly sharpened.
Without Nelson and Simms I would assume Hazel will play upfront with Asante maybe getting 25/30 minutes from the bench. Defence likely to be Griffiths, Lees, Sukar and Hedley, with Lawlor still injured. I think I would go with Platt, Hatfield and Moke in midfield, and Salkeld and Rivers for some width. That gives us some younger legs on the bench wit Lydley and Rowe to come on if we need them.
Lets forget the negativity from last week and make this a good one.

Be surprised to see Hazel tonight if the rumours are to believed about his next destination.

Re: Warrington
I’m hoping there might be a signing or two this afternoon as we are really lacking options tonight. If Hazel isn’t involved, team may look like this.
Taylor
Griffiths Lees Sukar Hedley
Moke Platt Lindley
Rivers Salkeld Hatfield
Rowe, Winfield, Harker, Asante

They are desperate for a fit goalscorer with a proven record. He's signed for them.

Re: Warrington
It is impossible for a backline of Griffiths, Sukar, Lees and Hedley to keep a clean sheet. And as we have one unfit striker, this is going to be 0-3.

Re: Warrington
So all these loan signings, ins and outs and it looks like we will be relying on the core of players that got us into this mess into the first place tonight.
Given all of the contacts JG has (allegedly) I was expecting us to push the boat out over the weekend and go again, but alas nothing. I have no confidence in the defence and we have not managed to move anyone on yet (which is hardly surprising given our position).

Hopefully Asanti is fit enough to give us something up front tonight, as I'm not quite sure what we'll do otherwise. We've struggled to score goals even with strikers playing
And with Lawlor out I'm worried (even more than usual...) about our ability to keep a clean sheet too
So, to sum up, I'm not that optimistic

Asanti can’t be expected to perform yet as he’s played about 20 minutes in the last 8 months. He will be in at some point in the second half when the game is already beyond saving.

IF Winfield returns to Barnsley, which he likely will do based on his lack of playing time with us, we are left with just four 'new signings' after nine came in.
How many have left? Barnes, Felix, Hazel - with Robson, Hannah, Burton, Winfield & Simms returning to their parent clubs?
Re: Warrington
Oh well scrub that now Hazel gone. Asante the only recognised striker available, but doubt he has 90 minutes in him, so unless a new signing announcement today, we look extremely lightweight upfront.Old Git wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 11:00 amPleased to see some welcome positivity for a change. It seems strange to lionise Hazel now - he's been poor this season.
We're not really going to miss his goals are we.

Re: Warrington
2-0--Early Asante goal...defensive solidity and a late breakaway!
Re: Warrington
I'm tempering my expectations tonight (as always). Warrington are having a decent season (comfortably mid-table, 3 points off the playoffs, decent run of wins in the league). They have got a few injuries which might be a blessing, but, having sold Hazel, and Asante needing a "mini pre-season" before he is match fit, I can't really see us winning this one. We have looked toothless up front all season (the first half against Chester was a welcome aberration).

Re: Warrington
Biggest worry in the time JG has been here is the apparent lack of a plan.
Yes, he inherited a squad devoid of confidence and a degree of ability but his approach really has been haphazard. When he first came in he was of the opinion that he could work with who was here, yet has barely given the original players a chance before chopping them and bringing in short term young loanees. Tactically in my opinion he has been rather naive, instead of keeping things simple he has tried to play a more complex system with players not able to adapt to it or have confidence to play the required roles asked of them, added to which again the high turnover of loan players has not helped.
Losing Hazel to me is either a case of JG chopping a player because he doesn't think he's good enough/inherited player or forced to financially by bringing in Asante. Either way it doesn't add to squad cohesion and means we go into a potentially crucial set of games with a lack of recognised strikers and with a few of the loanees returning, the irony is we are reliant on the remains of the squad he had to begin with (after ditching some of these for the ineffective loanees!) - so again no plan.
At the moment it just feels like the club winged appointing JG and he in turn is winging player recruitment/tactics in more of desperate hope to try and get out of this mess rather than a coherent plan.

Re: Warrington
We were expecting one in one out weren't we - as that is what budget allowed for.
I expected the loans were meant to be temporary breathing space which may have allowed for more outgoings to free up the budget to bring in others - rather than permanent solutions.
As it happens we are basically Asanti and Ngandu in, Hazel and Felix out compared to where Gowling started from?
Which does make it a gamble - proven but under performing out - unproven and uncertain (fitness) in.

Board needs to wake up and smell the coffee before it’s too late.
Damage limitation.
Re: Warrington
I just hope we can not concede in the opening 10 minutes...
If we can do that and then sneak a goal I fancy us to win.
If we concede early...in fact when was the last time we won in in the league from a losing position?

I saw it was 25 years since the Burnley fa cup tie at the Riverside the other day. It feels like it was probably then.
A better question would be: when was the last time ANYTHING good happened?
