Tonights team performance wise.

Post by StanWebbsGhost » Thu Jul 16, 2009 9:31 pm

I think these were the players who i recognised
Knight - not good. Handling awful, some good stops 2nd half.
Starosta- (think thats how you spell it) Terrible mistake for 1st goal , very average.
Centre half(alongside Miller - new lad from Hull?) impressive !
Miller - steady
James - no comment(see previous)
Jeff Smith? (wide left) impressive
Lumsden - yet another poor water carrier.
Convery - bright but not enough pace
Gary? Smith - ok.
Thorpe -steadyish journeyman type
Windass- showed excellent awareness
Josh Gray - Promising when came on
Was the lad who came into central midfield Williams ?- ok

Its gonna be a long hard season chaps. :silent:

Was the lad alongside Miller the young kid from Hull? Forget his name? He was useful!

The kid read the game very well, looks a decent prospect.

Bit harsh on Lumsden, I thought he did well. Also thought Thorpe did well in holding the ball up and laying it off but didn't get much support. He'll need somebody with pace alongside him, hopefully Waghorn from Sunderland who looked bright against us tonight.

Convery used to be reasonably quick, not lightning but he had a bit of pace, hopefully that'll come with more fitness cos he'll barely have played for six months.

Shame Doninger didn't get on - hopefully he'll get a chance at the weekend - but was impressed with Plummer, although him and Miller need to communicate better because there didn't seem to be much of a partnership there. Early days though.

Stan,

A fair reflection of an early ore season game. I thought Lumsden did ok. At least we wont be up against that quality every week!

I thought at times the team dod really well, some of the one touch passing was brilliant, thought Miller showed that he is quality, his double tackle on Kieran Richardson in the first half ws a joy to watch, very impressed with Smith on the left and also though G.Smith did well

Think Doninger did get on second half along with James Bennett who came into midfield. Was it Josh Gray who played up front with Thorpe for the second half, looked like him.
Arnison also played well second half, thought he looked much better than Starosta who was at best average last night.
Also, the keeper Woodhead who came on second half made some great stops and I would like to see him in a few more games.
Knight still has a lot to learn, you can't be dropping the ball as easy as that for their second goal. The sooner we get a GK coach in the better, Oakesy!

cant be 100% but didnt think doninger got on, pretty sure we ended the game with midfield of convery, lumsdon, bennett, josh gray.

and it looked liked dan riley was partnered up top with thorpe.

yeah thought woodhead looked pretty decent too with a couple of smart stops, he isnt the biggest of keepers tho, but id deffo like to have another look at him

Seemed to me that most of the Makems attacking play was always down either flank. The goals always came from there.

Gary Smith did very well, good on the ball, and made excellent use of the ball when he had it.

Thorpe did well, too... won everything in the air, held up play but there was nobody to help him once Windass departed.

I just wish we had a few more shots on target.

As Stan put, I was really impressed with Plummer last night, had a great game against tough opposition.
I just hope the dodgy deflection didn't knock his confidence. At least we can be sure, playing with Fozz and Miller he is going to learn an awful lot and could become a very good player for us.
Trouble is if Foster and Miller are at the back each week, he isn't going to play.
Jeff Smith wide left looked the only player who had a bit of pace to run up the wing and take on his man, although Convery looked decent, he lacks the pace.

According to the Echo, Todd is looking to bring in a striker on loan ahead of tomorrow's game with Newcastle. Let's hope it's Waghorn as he looked excellent for them last night. The lad with the blue boots who played up front for them second half, had pace to burn and had a lethal shot on him

I can be 100 per cent, Doninger did not get on.

As a newly converted darlo support this was the 1st time i saw darlo play, and i have to admit i was quietly impressed! any1 notice how we kept the ball when we did have it, nice to see a team have the confidence to play from the back! nice passes being picked out from plummer. Fair enough we didnt seem to get in on goal from our possession but we were playing a premiership side n i think we have a good chance of breaking teams down in our league!

if u take out the mistakes, then the game would have been 1-0 and even that came from a corner so i would say it was a reasonable performance.

was good to see the young lads step up to the occasion, and miller led by example. full backs were not the best! would it be worth considering pushing 1 of the cente halfs out there, they seemed mobile enough lastnyt.

would b happy to see the same performance again with out the mistakes!
