Spare a thought for Truro
Spare a thought for Truro
... as we go from strength to strength both on and off the field, it is sad to see Truro City about to fold. They've probably played their last game, a heart wrenching victory over Bath City last Tuesday. Truro gained five promotions in a row under their previous chairman who funded a meteoric rise - now he has pulled out and nobody is set to take over their debts. The Conference have issued a Thursday final deadline! Very sad that and they may not be the last!!
Hereford, incidently look set to go part time because their chairman has said they can't afford an £8,000 per week loss (who can?)
We , at Darlo, have certainly come a long way

Re: Spare a thought for Truro
I wonder what Hereford fans now think of Graham Turner who ran a very tight ship and turned a yearly profit. Not only that but got a couple of promotions. They wanted him out in the end.
Be careful what you wish for.
As for Truro, well...seen it all before

Spare a thought for Kettering too. Their nightmare rumbles on.

Re: Spare a thought for Truro
They'll be bust in weeks and it's the best thing for their fans, who can then regroup.
Re: Spare a thought for Truro
Its annoying how Kettering were allowed to get away with one relegation because they got a CVA, even though they were falling apart at the seams and yet we were hammered by the FA even though it looks like we will be doing a better job of paying off the old debts than Kettering.

Maybe, but for us the problems are now in our past and we've reclaimed our club. It's still dragging on for the Kettering fans and they'll probably get a heavy punishment in the same manner we did. I just hope they're able to survive it.loan_star wrote:Its annoying how Kettering were allowed to get away with one relegation because they got a CVA, even though they were falling apart at the seams and yet we were hammered by the FA even though it looks like we will be doing a better job of paying off the old debts than Kettering.
One things for sure, they're not likely to see through top the end of the season and, after what happened to us, there's little reason to try so we'll see how the fa like the integrity of their competitions then.

Re: Spare a thought for Truro
Aido , I think you spelled it out.
Truro , 5 promotions in a row under their previous chairman, and now nobody wants to take over their debts.
Those promotions were only achieved by non sustainable monetry inputs to the detriment of the well run clubs in their divisions, and now they have debts that nobody wans to take on.
It again spells out everything wrong with our game, and the FA.
Thank F*** we are out of all that now.
Newport County (That is their name as we are Darlington F.C. ),are top of the conference,
Chester City and Halifax Town are on their way back .We still have a little farther to travel.
Truro City if it is returned to it's fans will join us.

Re: Spare a thought for Truro
I also read they were hoping to build a 16,000 seater stadium. Are they mad?!
Re: Spare a thought for Truro
Definitely one of the things that I take comfort in - traditional league clubs like Aldershot, Accrington, Newport, Halifax etc. all seem to eventually get back (or are well on the road to getting back) up to league level after dropping into despair.tinshedender wrote:Aido , I think you spelled it out.

The FA (and possibly UEFA) need to set and maintain some proper rules about financial stewardship.
It's ridiculous that Machester City, the Premiership champions, are technically insolvent.
The same can be said for Real Madrid.
The Germans have the right idea about how football clubs should be run. All their teams finance themselves, and still Bayern do well in Europe every year.

That implies that the F.A. would use logic in their decisions, a whole new outlook for them.PaulMJohson wrote:The FA (and possibly UEFA) need to set and maintain some proper rules about financial stewardship.

Re: Spare a thought for Truro
On the subject of ex league clubs who made it back after being screwed by the FA (or otherwise) I was trying to think of clubs that didn't: Maidstone Utd, Boston maybe... any more?
let's get a new FA. This one's broken.

Scarborough?
Re: Spare a thought for Truro
Both Maidstone and Boston slowly improving.
Much better way of doing things than the way Truro rushed through the leagues, even though the 300 fans enjoyed it for 6 years.

Scarborough, Maidstone and Boston are all traditional non-league clubs
