Really, closing date is 30th of this month so not leaving much time to discuss and complete application.
They will be filling the forms in regardless - so they can be sent if the decision turns out to be yes.
I have mixed feelings about them applying for promotion.
I would of thought that any club serious about promotion should know long before the deadline whether to apply.
So is this an attempt at mind games? Not that they'll work.
I have a feeling they could apply for promotion at the end of the month, but possibly withdraw around the end of March or April time. Claiming some sort of unforeseen circumstance.
But then again, I don't think that they are that unprofessional.
So it now appears that MG is also thinking along these lines.
Bit dissapointed in Spenny if they are thinking of playing mind games.

OK - so Spenny "play mind games" with us and apply for promotion, then withdraw in March/April - what are they going to gain from doing that? Nothing as far as I can tell.

Indeed, wouldn't that just spur us on thinking we had to win the league? If they don't apply now, we will relax knowing that 2nd place is good enough and perhaps make it a bit easier to get themselves a 4th straight title.
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

Mr Groves wants to be a winner and if he has competition then if he does win it will taste sweeter to him.
Conspiracy? No!
Waiting for Raj to shaft them!

It might not be "mind games", it could just be that they genuinely still aren't sure whether or not to apply for promotion and want to leave any definitive decision until the last moment.
I sincerely hope they decide against.

I think people would find your story of Edgeley Park more interesting.
