A different outfield in each half except for the lad that played centre back(Poole)?,looked half decent.

Re: VS Shildon
Was a reasonable first game, we changed 9 players I think for the second half only Turns and Poole played full match.
1st Half - Poole looked decent although played centre back most of the match and not left back/midfield although moved over later on. P Robinson looked sharp, Prendegast was ok football wise but didn't look 100 fit. Gary Brown was back with a couple of tackles. AJ looked reasonably sharp, although nearly put a window out with one shot!
2nd half, Alex Francis looked good with the ball and with a build up of fitness will be a very good player. Jordan Robinson was played at right back which was strange as I thought he would be a centre back this season and Gott played centre back, see if that changes as the friendlies come along. Dowson looked sharp and Moore had all the tricks.
All in all a good work out and good to win. Sad to see the Shildon Primary Posse haven't grown up, causing a few issues for our younger fans.

Re: VS Shildon
A pretty good game for a first friendly. Much better in the second half when the majority of the first team played. Some decent glimpses from Moore and Andrew Johnson. Connor Lowes played well too, certainly looks like he's improved over the last few months and will knocking on the door of the first team squad.

Re: VS Shildon
First half: Turns; Mitchell, Brown, Poole, Prendergast; Riley, Robinson, Galbraith, Williamson; Johnson, Purewal.
Second half: Turns; Robinson, Poole, Gott, Scott; Moore, Francis, Davis, Thompson; Dowson, Lowes.
Strange first half in all honesty. Prendergast was a real weak link in defence, and it felt like we were playing with no left-back at times. I'm not a one to negatively single players out but I'd be thoroughly surprised if we keep him on trial. Mitchell performed extremely well at right-back, and Brown was faultless. Jamie Poole was steady away throughout all of the game, apart from gifting Shildon a golden opportunity in the second half and getting caught out towards the back end of the game. Riley looked decent, although slightly hesitant on the ball at times, definitely someone who I'd like to see us take a closer look at though. Axel Williamson wasn't really up to much on the left and looked a little out of his depth, however the length of the grass and facing one of the most experienced full-backs in the Northern League could well have effected his play, certainly. Johnson looked like a tidy player with good link-up play but he did scuff a chance towards the back-end of the first half, obviously an anomaly, though. Purewal took his goal very well, a one on one after a defensive mistake, it certainly came against the run of play mind. Shildon's goal included a slice of luck and a tap-in for Connor, which seemed offside given the reaction from our substitutes stood next to the linesman.
Plenty of changes in the second half. Poole was as vocal as ever and won the majority of balls in the air. The rest of the back-line was steady away, but it was the midfield which really impressed. Moore looked a class above, quick, skilful, direct; really pleasing to see. Davis kept it simple, distributing the ball effectively, and Thompson immediately made an impact by slipping through Dowson for our second. The stand-out though was Alex Francis. For someone who has just came back from a serious injury he was all over the middle of the pitch and his passing was superb. If we can get a decent pre-season into him then we could have another top quality player on our hands. Dowson's goal came about after he steamrollered through their defence and nipped in a shot which re-bounded off the post, only to fall straight back out to him about 2 yards out. Another individual goal by Thompson too as he picked up the ball and shot from 20 yards out, low and powerful enough, but the keeper' ought to be doing better with it really.
All in all, a good win against a strong Shildon side. I think it's fair to say that we looked more steady with a more established back-line, and we certainly grew into the game as time went on.

Good summary. Mitchell looked a really decent player.JPearson97 wrote:Mitchell performed extremely well at right-back, and Brown was faultless.

Re: VS Shildon
Poole is from Guisborough and had a trial with us a few years ago, seems a good solid player.fat tony wrote:What's the story with Poole and Francis? Where are they from?
Francis has been out with broken leg for 18 months, looks class but will need to build up slowly. He was at West Auckland and is highly rated, dropped down from Gateshead a few years ago.

No surprise the Shildon massive out in force again giving it the big un'.
They did the same in April, just a bunch of 15 year old kids after a bottle of Frosty Jack's.

Re: VS Shildon
Second half was much better than the first Gott looked very good at centre back and dowson looked very sharp up top. Didn't see much of A Johnson or Robinson in first half but it's the lads first 45minutes I'm sure things will fall in to place after a few more games. Is chris hunter injured? Thought he would of played.

Re: VS Shildon
There was one irritating little scroat letting his mouth run but I didn't see any fists thrown tbh. Clearly trying to impress his set of friends who frankly looked embarrassed. No doubt that will be his one and only Shildon game this season.charlie wrote:Sounds like some of our younger supporters encountered some trouble
Re: VS Shildon
A group of about 30 (young shildon supporters) from what I've heard started on a group of 7 of our younger supporters and police had to be called, nobody hurt but a bit of intimidation
Re: VS Shildon
Well I'm lucky to of escaped that one haha! Just stood there minding my own business and get started on for no reason by 30 odd lads, not afraid to admit that it was most terrified I've ever been in my life especially when they were all waiting for me outside the ground, lets just say they had a pretty long wait! No need for what happend and I'll most Definetly not be stepping foot in that shithole again!

Re: VS Shildon
I'd like to make it clear those responsible were not supporters of Shildon AFC, infact I believe some of them entered the ground during the second half and did not pay.
They were some of the local filth who knew Darlo were in town and came looking for a bit of trouble, in truth the situation could have been much, much worse thankfully in the end it blue over peacefully although the match will be largely overshadowed by it.
Also I have to say a massive thank you to director Dave Mills who was brilliant and very helpful in making sure those affected got out of the ground safely.

To be fair to Gory Ghastly-rent, he's never been a left back. Played his whole professional career as a winger as far as I know.
