"I like a ground which reminds you where you are." That was the beauty of Feethams, I guess.

Re: bloggers view of Darlington Clitheroe
Just looked at further pics the guy took. One shows the "slope". Never seen a pitch with such a huge deviation from one side to the other. Almost begs the question is it legal in footballing terms?

That is it in terms of the law of the field of play. There is nothing mentioned around fluctuations in altitude!

Played at harrogate town's ground a few times and the (down) slope there was much worse in front of the main stand. Almost impossible to play right side when the pitch was hard.

Bostock Stanley used to have the steepest slope.

This from the FA:
The maximum slope allowable shall not exceed an even gradient of vertical to horizontal 1: 41 in any direction. NB When a new pitch is being developed or significant improvements made to a pitch, the 1:41 would not be acceptable and the pitch must be constructed in accordance with and meet the FA Performance Quality Standard.
Wasn't at the game, so I have no idea if their pitch meets that standard.

Trying to think how this corresponds to a football pitch? Given a football pitch is 90 metres long am I right in thinking that allows for a 2.2 metre drop from end to end?Fibonacci0112358 wrote:The maximum slope allowable shall not exceed an even gradient of vertical to horizontal 1: 41 in any direction. Re: bloggers view of Darlington Clitheroe
Harrogate has been fixed by all accounts, but now they have drainage issues.
Two worse pitches I've seen in terms of gradients have been; Wycombe (Loakes Park), slope from sideline to sideline far worse than Clits. And Barnet (Underhill) where the touchline at the north end was/is higher than the cross bar at the souhern end.
Can't believe no one has mentioned Spenny's ground. It's more of a step than a slop, especially in front of the main stand.

Sunderland RCA last season. Shooting uphill must be a nightmare on the legs up there

Re: bloggers view of Darlington Clitheroe
Yeovils old ground had an impressive slope on it and I remember going to Dorchester town years ago to their old ground, that was more like playing on side of a mountain, biggest slope on a pitch I've ever seen from goal to goal...........
