Why is anyone who expresses an opinion that doesn't agree with yours get called a troll ?
Do you really think Fisher will stay 2.5 years ? And of course you are always right

Re: New signing
Fisher has played at a higher level and does not seem to settle.
The reference to Wearside League was meant to suggest that things can go wrong. I believe that Darlington should not be signing players on 2,5 years contracts as few players stay that length of time and even MG suggests that the finances are not good !

Re: New signing
24 years old 6 clubs in UK since 2008 Not to mention clubs abroad
Re: New signing
To start with, if it goes wrong for Darlo at this level, its more likely we will just go out of existence (imo)dave1948 wrote:24 years old 6 clubs in UK since 2008 Not to mention clubs abroad
At lower levels of football, its not about settling, its about clubs not keeping on players, and there is a lot of rotation of squads.
So yes, he may not settle, but its not a given.
Re: New signing
Surprised we have signed anyone after Gray's whining about our disappointing crowds the other day to be honest.

Re: New signing
Surely putting him on a 2 and a half year contract reduces the risk of him leaving and also if he does well we will receive a fee from a club that buy him?
Re: New signing
It's absolutely inevitable that a forward will leave to make room for Fisher.
Can't see it being Purewal as leading scorer last season and in form this season. It obviously won't be new signing and prolific scorer Andy Johnson. I'd be surprised to see Darlo supporter and future coach Stevie Johnson leave. As for Stephen Thompson I don't count him as a forward but more of a wideman, though I suppose he will be a sought after player and could be transferred to a pro club?
Realistically it leaves David Dowson, who to be honest would be one of the first names on the team sheet last season. He's a fantastic player at this level and I'll be very sad if he's shipped out.

Re: New signing
Perhaps more pertinent would be who will make way for him in the team - Purewal or AJ or are we looking to change the system? - perhaps we'll go 2-3-5 like the old days!

Re: New signing
Maybe Fisher will play up front with AJ and Amar will drop back into midfield, or a supporting attack role?

Re: New signing
Doesn't really fit, that would only displace Thompson. We have an awful lot of attacking players now.MikeinBlack2 wrote:Maybe Fisher will play up front with AJ and Amar will drop back into midfield, or a supporting attack role?
I don't actually know a great deal about Fisher, other than (after a wikipedia check) we share a date of birth. What type of player is he?

Re: New signing
Certainly looks to know how to take on people and score decent goals, can see him pairing with Amar to start with in the typical little and large pairing up front
Re: New signing
Signed 2 and a half year contract to protect the club. Get a sell on fee. If only we had done that with Tait!

Re: New signing
Great signing but were does this place dowson 4th choice? Surely will not be happy with that and won't put up with it for long.
Re: New signing
Fisher now needs international clearance to play so not sure if he'll play any part on Tuesday night.

Surely they have an e-mail address or fax number!?Big Tim wrote:Fisher now needs international clearance to play so not sure if he'll play any part on Tuesday night.

It took a few weeks to get international clearance for Dan Hall and he was only crossing the border!

Newcastle Benfield just had one through from Australia in under a week.

Yes, but it all depends on how efficient the previous national association is.
They need to send an IRT certificate on his behalf.

Indeed, I was merely stating a recent example.Fibonacci0112358 wrote:Ingleby wrote:Newcastle Benfield just had one through from Australia in under a week.

Re: New signing
Massively excited by this signing. Thought he looked sharp at conference level on the handful of times I've seen him.
Good age as well. Its very harsh on Dowson if he moves down the pecking order but I hope he stays as he is a great player at this level and has a chance to be a part of another promotion winning side.

Re: New signing
I was always crap at Maths at school but..................a two and a half year contract means we have signed him till end of March 2016? So he would be out of contract 8 weeks or so before the end of that season? Am I missing something here?
Re: New signing
If you are being pedantic yes. Would you prefer they said 2 years and 8 months or maybe a 32month contract?bga wrote:I was always crap at Maths at school but..................a two and a half year contract means we have signed him till end of March 2016? He will be with us until the end of the 2016 season. Does anyone know are our players on 40week (or in-season) contracts or 52week?

Re: New signing
Generally the players don't get paid in the summer not sure the exact contracts though but I would imagine 36/40 weeks.
Re: New signing
Wasn't being pedantic I just wondered why club couldn't say (if true) he has signed till the end of the 2016 season!
Re: New signing
FAO lo36789 You also said in an earlier post he would end up at Celtic Nation so I hope you are right this time about the end of the 2016 season!
Look forward to seeing him tonight if he plays am just setting off for game now.

Re: New signing
Won't be playing tonight.
Re: New signing
Notice the comment re not getting paid in the Summer.
Always love the Tommy Docherty story about when he was a player at Preston in the days of the maximum wages.... players used to get a maximum wage of something like 24 quid in the season & 18 quid in the Summer break.
Tom Finny was on the top money , the Doc was only on 22 & 16 so he went to see the manager to get a raise... the manager said Finney is worth the top money he is a better player than you ...
The Doc replied " Aye he is... but not in the F*****g summer he's not "

Re: New signing
I did indeed the logic being I didn't think we needed a striker and Celtic Nation pay big bucks. I wonder if we would have got Johnson in had we known Fisher would be back again so soon.bga wrote:FAO lo36789 You also said in an earlier post he would end up at Celtic Nation so I hope you are right this time about the end of the 2016 season!

Logic doesn't tell me that we would contract a player until March. I may be wrong about the last one as well.
