Should we take the FA Trophy seriously?
We play Ossett Town on Saturday in the Trophy, should we take the game seriously? A good run can raise some much needed money, but it could also cause a fixture backlog and stretch our squad. In my opinion I'd like to see us take the FA Trophy seriously, if only to see how we match up against possibly higher league opposition.
Re: Should we take the FA Trophy seriously?
Yes, we should take the Trophy seriously and sack the other minor cups off.
I doubt that 4 or 5 Trophy matches, should we get such a run going, would harm our season too much.

Pretty much echo these views.
How good would a match against Stockport/FC United/Chester/Gateshead or Luton be this season!
We are in a proper competitive division with playoffs this year where other teams can beat each other.

It's very important because of the extra money it could bring in.

The money seems to be the only point in winning by the sound of things

Re: Should we take the FA Trophy seriously?
We are not going to win the Trophy but 3 or 4 rounds would be good, maybe get to a point and play say a Luton/Grimsby away may provide some shared gate receipts also.CrazyDarlo wrote:The money seems to be the only point in winning by the sound of things
So main reason would be money but also pride and perhaps feeling part of the football pyramid again.
Re: Should we take the FA Trophy seriously?
Well worth taking seriously. Just getting through to the first round proper (4 wins) would put over £12k in the kitty, excluding any gate receipts.

I'd love Grimsby/Lincoln away or Gateshead at home should we get that far

We should definitely take it seriously for reasons stated by others. I think we have an outside chance for final 16 with a bit of luck in the draw.

Re: Should we take the FA Trophy seriously?
With the new move announced we need all the money we can get at the moment, and a decent way of raising some would be prize money from a small cup run, so yes is my answer.
Come on Darlo!

With the imminent demise of Play For Your Club, it is probably the best way of keeping the club's profile at the top of the domestic football agenda.
However, if Play For Your Club continues, I wouldn't want FA Trophy fixtures distracting Pete and BOB from that.

We will be playing at the arena again next season - fact.
Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

Can't argue with that Spy.Spyman wrote:With the imminent demise of Play For Your Club, it is probably the best way of keeping the club's profile at the top of the domestic football agenda.

I'd love to play a Conference or ex-Conference side in a later round of the Trophy.

Re: Should we take the FA Trophy seriously?
In a word...Yes, We should be serious about, it is prpbably the Showpiece of non-League football, tbe non-League version of the FA Cup...Will we win it, most probably not. but we get a chance to play on a national level and an opportunity for the team to prove themselvesDarlo_Pete wrote:We play Ossett Town on Saturday in the Trophy, should we take the game seriously? Scarborough Athletic would be a good one as well.
Re: Should we take the FA Trophy seriously?

Re: Should we take the FA Trophy seriously?
I'd love us to get either Ebbsfleet, Dartford or Welling in the Trophy as these grounds are right on my doorstep. One thing i miss about watching Darlo is going to a local away game

Re: Should we take the FA Trophy seriously?
I was stood next to an Albion fan last night who was watching his son playing for them in defence. he told me that Albion and Town hate each other and that we will face a different type of game on Saturday.
He said that their pitch (Town) is small and muddy and that they play a tough/physical game.

So, making it to the 1st round proper gets you £12,450.super_les_mcjannet wrote:Here you goD_F_C wrote:anyone have the prize list? I know someone has previously posted it

What will it cost to play those games?
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

We should take every game seriously - regardless of competition stature.Darlo_Pete wrote:We play Ossett Town on Saturday in the Trophy, should we take the game seriously?
