The Leagues top 7 updated

Post by Ginge01 » Mon Jan 20, 2014 7:57 am

Since I wrote this a month ago, I’ve created an update.

The current league table showing the top 7
...........................................Home.....Away
...........Team................Pd | .W D L | ..W D L | ..W D L |..F ..A .Diff | Pts
1 Curzon Ashton.........24 |...9 3 0 .| 10 1 1 .| 19 4 1 | 56 25 ..31 | 61
2.Warrington Town.....26 | 10 1 2 .|.. 9 1 3 .| 19 2 5 | 57 23 ..34 | 59
3 Farsley FC................28 |...9 4 2 .|.. 8 3 2 .| 17 7 4 | 59 33 ..26 | 58
4 Darlington 1883.......26 |...7 3 2 .| 10 1 3 .| 17 4 5 | 64 22 ..42 | 55
5 Bamber Bridge.........25 |...9 1 3 .|.. 6 2 4 .| 15 3 7 | 48 31 ..17 | 48
6 Lancaster City..........25 |...8 4 1 .|.. 6 2 4 .| 14 6 5 | 47 33 ..14 | 48
7 Ramsbottom United 24 |...8 2 2 .|.. 6 2 4 .| 14 4 6 | 68 34 ..34 | 46

And the table where teams in the 7 have only played each other, a maximum of 6 home and away games is possible.

.........................................Home....Away
...........Team..............Pd | W D L | W D L | W D L |..F...A..Diff | Pts
1 Curzon Ashton.........5 | 3 1 0 .| 2 0 0 .| 5 1 0 .|..11 ..5 ..6 | 16
4.Darlington 1883.......9 | 2 0 1 .| 2 1 3 .| .4 1 4 .| 14 10 ..4 | 13
7 Ramsbottom United 7 | 2 0 1 .| 1 1 2 .| .3 1 3 .| 14 ..8 ..6 | 10
2 Warrington Town.....8 | 1 1 2 .| 2 0 2 .| 3 1 4 .| 12 13 .-1 | 10
3 Farsley FC................4 | 2 1 1 .| 0 0 0 .| 2 1 1 .|...6...6...0 |...7
6 Lancaster City..........6 | 1 1 0 .| 1 0 3 .| 2 1 3 .|...7.12 .-5 |...7
5 Bamber Bridge.........8 | 1 0 3 .| 0 2 2 .| 1 2 5 .|...5.13 .-8 |...5
Points to make,
1) We are still the only team to have played everyone away, our away record against non top 7 opponents is now 8 0 0, so we need to keep acquiring away wins against the lesser teams in the division, now is STILL the time to have a run as we did last season.
2) Curzon are top of the regular table, and the strongest playing against the top 7, we would be helped greatly by two draws with Warrington and a loss to us to be able to catch them.
3) Ramsbottom have won 4 in a row (all outside the top 7), they are now 2 points from being tied for the last playoff place.
4) Warrington are hanging around in 2nd in the regular table, hoping to win at least one, draw the other against Curzon to give them a real chance at winning the league.
5) Farsley may be cooling off, drawing 2 of their last 5 against not top 7 opponents, Farsley have to play away to everyone else in the top 7, I'm expecting to see some losses.
6) Lancaster are losing touch with the top 4, in a battle with Ramsbottom for the last playoff place
7) Bamber Bridge appeared the weakest of the top 7, 9 1 3 at home in the league, 1 0 3 against top 7 opponents, losing 0-3 to us, 0-3 to Warrington, 0-1 to Curzon, beating Ramsbottom 2-1. Away from home, they are 6 2 4 away in the league, 0 2 2 against the top 7, losing to us and Curzon. 1 top 7 win in 8 games, I think they are not going to make the playoffs

Conclusion
This weeks update, Darlington were the only team to win away from home, and with Farsley’s home draw, a good weekend for us
Still to be determined, how Farsley 0 games and Curzon 2 games do playing away against the top 7. The scary part of this, Ramsbottom getting into the playoffs, do we want to be 2nd, and play them if they finish 5th, or we finish 3rd, let Warrington beat Ramsbottom, then we beat Warrington.

Since the last update before the Boxing day games, the top 7 records playing games in the league have been
..........................................Home....Away
...........Team..............Pd | W D L | W D L | W D L|..F .A ..Diff | Pts
1 Curzon Ashton.........5 | 1 0 0 .| 4 0 0 .| 5 0 0 | 16 .6 ..10 | 15
2 Warrington Town.....4 | 1 0 0 .| 2 0 1 .| 3 0 1 | ..8 .2 ....7 |.. 9
3 Farsley FC................5 | 2 1 0 .| 1 1 0 .| 3 2 0 | 11 .6 ....5 | 11
4 Darlington 1883.......4 | 1 1 0 .| 2 0 0 .| 3 1 0 | 13 .4 ....9 | 10
5 Bamber Bridge.........2 | 0 0 1 .| 1 0 0 .| 1 0 1 | ..3 .3 ....0 |.. 3
6 Lancaster City..........3 | 2 1 0 .| 0 0 0 .| 2 1 0 | ..6 .4 ....2 |.. 7
7 Ramsbottom United 4 | 3 0 0 .| 1 0 0 .| 4 0 0 | 20 .6 ..14 | 12

The games where points were lost
1 Curzon Ashton.........None
2 Warrington Town.......(a) Clitheroe 0-1
3 Farsley FC..................(h) Ossett Town 1-1, (a) Harrogate 1-1
4 Darlington 1883.........(h) Salford 2-2
5 Bamber Bridge...........(h) Curzon 0-1
6 Lancaster City............(h) Kendal 2-2
7 Ramsbottom United None
The 7 teams are playing as expected, winning most if not all of their games. Dropping points especially home points means relying on everyone else to drop points to make up that ground. Losing to a top 7 team (Bamber Bridge) really bad. We are trying to catch Curzon to win the league, but they are not fading yet, we need Warrington’s help with two draws and Curzon to lose some games elsewhere.

So in summary.

We need to keep winning and we need those above us to drop points?

Lo, are you honestly criticising someone for writing a relatively long post?

That was my short summary, here is my longer one.

Looking at the table realistically we need Curzon to lose 4 games.

They have us, Farsley & Warrington to come away from home and Warrington at home, outside of that I can't actually see them dropping much else.

As a result I am hoping that Warrington win both games. The only notably difficult game Warrington have outside of the Curzon fixtures is Ramsbottom. Assuming they lose that we would still be relying on Warrington losing silly points, but I do feel they are a lot more prone to that than Curzon.

This at the same time as us completing a 19 games win streak despite having 3 of the top 7 teams still to play!

It will be remarkable, but I think it is possible and not entirely unrealistic for 3 teams to finish this season on 100+ points.

Lo, I liked your short and long summaries :D

We all want Curzon to fail, one defeat in 24 is so much better than everyone, we need them to lose at least 3-4 more games, and for us to win every game. That's wishing and hoping for a lot, to do that we need to beat Curzon, Curzon then needs no more than 1 draw and 1 loss against Warrington, I don't want Warrington with 6 points. Curzon then ends to lose to some surprise teams the way Spennymoor did last year late in the game at Penrith when it stopped becoming mathematical possible for them to catch and the successive wins stopped.
Our form since November is much better than earlier, we are catching Farsley and Warrington, 2nd might be as high as we get. I fear Ramsbottom from everything I've seen written about them here.
Looking forward to Saturday, I'm hoping for a win (as always), a working radio commentary and the funny banter with extra colorful exchanges thrown in by the guests. The last 15 minutes against Salford, it was like listening from the moon, screeching, screaming, audio feedback, audio dropouts, white noise, cheers, aaaaaaawwwwwsss, yyyyyeeeeeeeeaaaahhhhssss, gerrriinnnss, it was edge of the seat stuff, I was asking my cats 'what did they say?' Until confirmation of a goal. Great stuff. Please give me a sleepy relaxing half time lead and big win like Clitheroe commentary, I spill less of my morning coffee!!!

Cheers
