Darlington FC V Farsley FC

Post by poppyfield » Fri Apr 18, 2014 7:59 am

So how is this game going to pan out? Its a must win for Farsley, who have had some good results lately, lets be honest our record against the top teams has not been the best. what should our tactics be? What team do we play? and how would they line up? My view would be to go defensive with 4 4 2 and use the speed of Thomson&Dowson to catch them on the break, if we go for an attacking line up and go a goal down (as in the past against the better teams) we dont seem to have a plan B.
With the playoffs not far off this will be a real test for our team.

i think in this game and the playoffs we have to go 4-4-2 the games when we played 3 at the back we looked open even against the weaker teams and a better side would take advantage

While playing 4-4-2 we have often looked overrun in the midfield and Thompson isn't given the freedom he relishes and is easier to mark out of the game.

4-4-2 not for me.
For you to insult me, I must first value your opinion.

We lost the midfield battle in the away game against Farsley, Chris Moore had a poor game and left two midfielders running around getting nowhere. Scott also had a bit of a nightmare at CB that day.

I think MG will go 4-3-1-2 in the playoffs, certainly first half and tomorrow is a chance to see it against one of the possible playoff teams. Problem is Mitchell doesn't really fit into that and I think Gray would like to play him. Hopson didn't make the bench last week, so I would expect him to be on the bench this week also. With Jordan Robinson looking to be involved it could be interesting who is involved tomorrow.

Guessing at 2-1 Darlo, Attendance 1,210.

I want to see Robinson back in the team, but might be best to let him sit this out and and use Monday&Saturday to get him ready for playoffs.
I think you are right about 4-3-1-2 its Brown in the middle that does not seem to work for us mind you, you cant fault the lads commitment

I would expect 4-3-1-2 as well.

Admittedly the time when 4-4-2 was causing us trouble was when we were struggling for options in defence (Scott/Pilatos slotting in and Galbraith struggling for form) and we were quite lightweight in centre midfield (Davis/lad from Boro).

I would feel more confident in 4-4-2 now, but without Chris Moore we don't have a right winger and for all Thompson is great in left midfield he is rampant in behind the strikers.

4-3-1-2 plays to the strengths of our best players.

as long as we dont play 3 at the back im happy
i dont either 4-4-2 or 4-3-1-2

To be fair 4-3-1-2 probably suits us better then thommo can hav a free role

Thanks Joejaques, I'd stop if most people disliked it. It's been an up and down race since February for the teams 2nd to 7th and it's fun for me to see the league positions change as the games progress.

I'll start another thread, and he can ramble on with his crude comments

Think you'll find that Ramsbottom are on 74pts and are therefore in fifth on goal difference at the moment. All looking good for us though lol.
