Arthur Wharton statue off to Rotherham
Just on the one show apparently he signed for Rotherham 125 years ago. What's happened Shaun & Doug??

Doug allegedly was last seen snooping about the Arena asking Mowden about the possibility of a groundshare season before last.darlodog wrote:Just on the one show apparently he signed for Rotherham 125 years ago. What's happened Shaun & Doug??
It seems Shaun Campbell is now fully dedicated to the Arthur Wharton campaign and trying to prevent the housing development at Feethams.
love it! wrote:Considering we are Darlington 1883 I'm happy that we are named correctly

I contributed the info for the one show - did you notice the picture of Darlington FC in 1883. And this is what's happening to our statue: http://www.thefa.com/news/2014/mar/arth ... ark-100314
Re: Arthur Wharton statue off to Rotherham
i take that as another kick from the FA as it clearly states he played for us first but they choose to take rotherham instead and that new stadium.

I don't like defending the FA, but you could hardly expect them to send the statue to Darlo when we are'nt there.

Although isn't the New York Stadium a stones throw away from Millmoor?Mr_Tibbs wrote:But neither did he play at Rotherham's new stadium.joejaques wrote:I don't like defending the FA, but you could hardly expect them to send the statue to Darlo when we are'nt there.
I do envisage that the housing development at Feethams could end up with an AW statue at the entrance.
Re: Arthur Wharton statue off to Rotherham
Is there any explanation as to why the statute is to be at rotherham as opposed to any of the other clubs he played at?

Here's my guess...spen666 wrote:Is there any explanation as to why the statute is to be at rotherham as opposed to any of the other clubs he played at?
That was the club where he became the first ever black professional footballer at.
He was only an amateur at Darlington and Preston.

Yeh they said he was first amateur but he didn't go pro. Ol' Arthur was first professional black player at Rotherham.

Not a great policy to rely on Wikipedia, about the same as believing the Lib Dem or any other political party's manifesto!lo36789 wrote:It is dependent on wikipedia being accurate.spen666 wrote:I never knew that. I thought he was a professional at Darlington!
