The grass bank at HP

Post by Alfie » Mon Jul 14, 2014 10:57 am

Does anyone know what the policy is going to be regarding standing on the grass this coming season?

last season the policy seemed to be 'no standing on the grass' - at the start of the match this was more or less enforced by the stewards who persuaded people to stand within a painted line about a yard up the slope. As the game went on people gradually crept up beyond the line - different stewards tried to hold them back (figuratively speaking) with varying degrees of enthusiasm and success (not having a go at the stewards - these volunteers do their best in difficult circumstances). In many cases by the end of the match we were leaning against the fence at the top of the slope without any interference.

standing won't be allowed. We will be at risk of fines if not enforced - that won't stop people. People will stand on it.

Stewards will probably be strict/lenient depending on their judgement at the time.

I imagine that there will be rumours of the bank being fenced off.

It will be exactly the same. Why wouldn't it be? Its not flexible, as its an 'Elf n Safety' issue. If as a club we don't enforce it, and someone comes a cropper, it could be very costly indeed!

I fail to see the difference between a small grass bank and Henman Hill at Wimbledon. They never seem to have health and safety on their case and if anything, theres more chance of an accident on a steep bank than the small slope at HP

Maybe its worth the risk at the worlds most prestigeous tennis tournament and after they have fleeced a hundred thousand fans over the two weeks to sit and watch a big tele, maybe they could afford the higher premium for liability insurance? Can we do the same to appease 12 fans, get real!

 I think you should stand where you want on the bank, ignore the stewards who volunteer to try & save the club getting in to trouble with the authorities. then when we are fined by our friends the FA & have points deducted which affects where we finish in the league then maybe you can pay the fine, but you wont be able to give us the points back. Hey Ho we all should be doing our best to ensure we get the club back home as soon as possible & don't rock the boat or upset the applecart or worse still the FA.

The league wanted it fencing off so the stewards tried their best but got abused or ignored. Hopefully people will listen to announcements/stewards requests to avoid having to pay for a fence at HP assuming it has not been done already.

Its not down to how much you pay for public liability insurance! If there is a risk and you don't do anything to stop people taking that risk then the insurance won't cover you. People do it at their own risk.

Getting terracing on the grass bank is something that has been mentioned previously by our board but can't see it happening until we start our inevitable surge back up the leagues! Obviously you guys should be in your new home then :)

True, the previously immovable turds clogging up Michaels league may have finally been flushed but we need some momentum behind us, something we dont have right now. Heres hoping though!
