Post by HarrytheQuaker » Sat Sep 06, 2014 6:13 pm

Fooking 16 year old idiots running on the pitch then starting fights the wankers... Only recognised 1 of a regular darlo fan the rest obviously just came to start trouble... Didn't need that it was non league day to try and attract new fans not fooking put them off..

They didn't look 16 to me. At least 18+, some of them were squaddies. Now the lads that got punched they were no more than 15. It was a disgrace. The stewards took a few punches and it looked to me that they were also turning on Darlo fans that were trying to intervene.*

The "lady" stood next to me said that they were on the supporter bus with her so they should be pretty easily identified...

*that is the Darlo yobs turning on the Darlo fans not the stewards...

Ash if you know that some of these lads were solders then their units should be told and their discipline system will be a damn sight more severe than a simple ban.

I don't have the foggiest who any of them are only that I heard one of them tell the bobby escorting him out that one of the lads was his "mukka from Afghanistan so..." I didn't hear the rest of the conversation but I presume it ended "...so it was my duty to help him beat up schoolchildren"

It is on days like this you realise what a strange thing a fan base is. It is such a diverse mixture of people. The facebook page is an interesting reflection on this.

I think I have actually seen a man suggest that because he has put money into the club, being asked not to swear is unacceptable. There seems to be genuine threats to no longer support the club because of the request for no swearing!

Was stood next to these groups, didn't recognise any of them but 1, obviously just because the BPL wasn't on, they thought they would come down and make havoc, unacceptable.

I'm not sure how it stemmed, but it was so childish, fans throwing punches as the other fans were just innocently chanting for their team. Ridiculous, MG shouldn't have to step in to deal with it.

None of the little scroates were on the supporters bus...the odd one turns up occasionally to games at hp and I'll have no problem pointing them out if required. I suggest others do like wise...in fact if/when they turn up again and make a total show of us,
more of us collectively should let them know they are not welcome.

They were NOT on the Supporters club bus but, apparently, the Archdeacon pub had a bus on and they were on that. They set off early morning and drink their way to the match!

The Darlo lads were not kids, the Droylsden lads were about 15/16.

Not sure what to say about the day, two Droylsden men (one who put a steward vest on later and decided to be a steward) didn't help the situation. Before putting vest on and the lads had been on the pitch once, he walked past saying "if they do that again I am having them f@cking outside". He then got a vest from the clubhouse and cheered himself back into position next to the Darlo lads.

When Armstrong scored his offside goals the same lads went on the pitch again. Another Droylsden fan jumped on the pitch and stood in front of the Darlo lads, trying to get them off or inciting more (no idea!). He was sent away after that by the Droylsden steward and seemed to go off in a mood.

Then when Jameson got injured the Droylsden lad sent off, it all kicked off. I was watching the match but then seen what looked like the Darlo lads heading towards and hitting Droylsden young lads/stewards. Some of these young lads had come in 25 mins into the game and went towards the Darlo lads, maybe they thought it would be good banter but they had that 15/16 years old attitude. They were not so confident after the incident but for some reason still wanted to go down the other end of the ground at halftime and stand with the Darlo fans. The steward sent them away back up the other end.

Spoke to another steward in the second half and he was not happy that they had let the first guy by a steward today and that he doesn't deal with things great. I could only agree with him, however the blame for the incident can't be heaped onto that lad. You could see something coming from the start of the day, shame as the clubhouse before was a good friendly atmosphere.

Seen 1 or 2 of the Darlo lads at a few other games but not many of them go regularly, especially to home games. Police dealt with it once arrived and the second half the Droylsden fans/team were up for it, Darlo seemed like we just wanted to get the game finished and get home, that's fans and team.

One of the Droylsden lads was the groundsman apparently.

From where I was stood, the blame was at least 70-30 to our lot unfortunately

One of that crowd was involved in the bother after the Spennymoor game, seems he likes fighting with under 16s. Sure he worked in the burger van at home games last season too.

Can't disagree, the groundsman thing rings true as I think I seen him on the pitch again at the end.

Sadly when he went on the pitch to get the lads off it he just looked like someone looking for trouble with the few Darlo lads on the pitch.

It was an incident waiting to happen from the start and most around knew it.

Having overheard the chief steward they were not really of a high standard and I think they were completely overwhelmed, you would have thought they would have been on top form today for what is presumably their biggest gate of the year but I think they were too casual. I don't think some of them even had any jackets on to begin with which probably didn't help things.

Having said that I don't think you can throw too much blame the stewards way.

Sounds like the Droylsden fans were winding Darlo fans up... so what? nothing different to what some of our own fans say/chant and no excuse for the behaviour witnessed.

The behaviour was inexcusable and clearly by thick, daft fucking morons.

However, the first pitch invasion was a warning, then the bald groundsman was winding them up and then went off in a mood to get a jacket. This is when it was obvious they were struggling and needed assistance, the police should've been called when the lads threw something off a floodlight (glass, i think). Another couple of minutes go by and it all kicks off.

If the matching stone island and aquastucum clobber wasn't a giveaway.....

The bloke who chucked a bottle at the floodlight was a Droylesden fan.

Really?! Eitherway, the stewards had plenty of time to read the situation and they could've saved a few young lads getting battered.

I turned up today totally expecting trouble,, Especially after the FA cup clash a few seasons ago... Why there weren't a few bobbys about from the start is beyond me, surely it made sense just in case...Cost I suppose

Totally agree they were very slow to react especially the one who went for a yellow jacket after 3 mins..

That's the one who said "If they go on the pitch again I will have them out f@cking side", they then went on the pitch again and he realised he had taken on more than he could chew.

Everyone in that tin shed end from Darlo, seemed to know something was going to happen, the stewards dealt with it wrong but as people have said the blame lies with those causing the bother.

When I walked in with my lad there were a few Droylsden fans behind the goal but in their mix was a fat bald bloke, mid 40s.

When Darlo scored a Darlo fan ran on the pitch and the fat bald bloke strolled over and told the lad that if he did it again he would be thrown out.He was aggressive in his manner to the Darlo fan & had no high vis on at this point to identify him.Petrol on flames is the best way I would describe his attitude.

When the second went in a number of the Darlo fans ran on and then another bloke in his mid 40s appeared in a baseball cap and seemed to cause more bother.
A few punches were thrown.

The fat bald bloke realised he was out of his depth, put on his high vis and tried to start to reason with the Darlo lads.

One steward,a young guy, seemed to be getting on ok with the Darlo lads after it had all died down

The Darlo lads were quite rowdy and at this point a group of Droylsden lads stared singing, taken in good heart by the Darlo fans.

However, they then started to sing derogatory things about Darlington,it was always going to kick off.

The Darlo lads were 18ish but the lads they were fighting were 16ish so poor on them.

The Darlo lads were defo up for something and I was told that one of them when he was 13ish along with his Dad had a kick in last time they were at Droylsden which might explain it?

Six of one and half a dozen of the other is my view on it all as regards blame.

I'm confused, I wasn't there but judging on your own words. That doesn't sound like 'Six of one and half a dozen of the other'!!! Clearly Darlo fans are at fault, there's no point in trying to sugar coat it.

I don't think I've ever been at a match where about five or six people on the terraces have been allowed to have such a profound effect. There clearly wasn't any difficulty seeing what was going on and who was responsible. Those responsible should have been ejected from the ground by the stewards and if they couldn't or wouldn't do it then the police should have been called on a 999 basis to let them do it.

I was stood about 15 yards away from the scenes...

Basically, the darlo 'fans' were all pissed up and seemed to be a bit over the top. As previously stated, a bald fella in a Droylsden top went over and basically told them to behave otherwise he would have them thrown out. Well that didn't go down well...

Then from the entrance came 5-6 lads from Droylsden who were about 17 years old wearing wannabe 'casual' gear. They set up next to the drunken darlo 'fans' and sang normally. Then they decided to sing things regarding Darlo being a 'shithole' and then it all kicked off from there.

It was a real mess though. There was only about 4-5 stewards and about 15 people fighting so it seemed to me as though it was going to be called off...

Kinda wish it was :|

No excuse for the behaviour of the Darlo "fans" yesterday but it could have all been nipped in the bud with effective stewarding. That's the problem at this level, stewards are largely volunteers with minimum training and I can see why they are hesitant to get involved and throw people out. Policing/professional stewarding at this level is a cost most can't afford so incidents like this will happen with clubs who have a few nuggets travelling with them.
