Not a good forecast for this weekends game.

Post by Darlo_Pete » Mon Jan 12, 2015 12:54 pm

Apparently from Wednesday it's going to turn really cold, with hard frosts at night. I hope they've got those covers ready? The last thing we need is yet another game being called off.

Which forecast are you looking at? According to the Met Office's 5-day forecast for Bishop Auckland, temperatures aren't expected to fall below zero. Of course, that doesn't mean that the forecast can't worsen between now and Saturday.

Theres not many shady areas to cover if there is a forecast frost. Darlo players however may be a bit out of match practice and, like Ramsbottom B, could play a practice game (ideally at Consett?)

Wednesday is supposed to be the worst day with another Atlantic storm due to hit with winds and a lot of rain forecast. Thursday onwards is due to be cold with the odd wintry shower.

Coming home from Bishop tonight the Gaunless was quite high with the fields next to Enterprise flooding.

Hopefully we don't get the worst of the rain if we do no doubt the game will be off. I will check the ground this week and give an update.

Todays game for Bishop is off due to waterlogged pitch.

I still maintain that the game will be threatened by the weather, hope I'm wrong of course.

It WILL be off.....HP simply can't cope with moderate rainfall in a short space of time. Sad but true!

If the game at Heritage Pond is off we will have 20 games to play in 14 weeks IF there are no more games lost to the weather.Maybe it's time for a radical bit of thinking and play this game at Prescot.Yes,I know it would cost us a lot of money and yes there could be a lot of hassle but we don't want Salford getting too big a points gap on us,because Saturday is a banker for them. Also,by the time Ossett Albion come around it will be three weeks since the players kicked a ball in anger, ring rusty and all that.
Just a thought out far left field, but H P is becoming a real problem.

Pretty sure we have only had 1 game called off at Heritage Park this season? The other 4 were away fixtures?

But don't let the facts get in the way.

I'm well aware of where the games have been called off but the point remains that we are falling a long way behind on fixtures. And if you are saying that HP hasn't been a problem, you are deluded.

Well it hasn't, this season, so far.

Wow...You must have a very high opinion of Salford, or a low opinion of Farsley if you think their game is a banker.....

We as a club cannot afford to play our home games at Prescot or any other away ground in this league.. We need the revenue to help us through this season.

The fact that they couldn't play Saturday's and tonight's games at Heritage Park tells you there is a problem with the pitch. There really hasn't been that much rain prior to either of these games. We will lose more games at Heritage Park this season if there is even normal amounts of rain before the games. The pitch does have a problem draining even relatively small amounts of water and Bishops themselves accept that.

HP is a massive problem. Even with average rainfall it could be March/April until we play there again.

That is why on Saturday while Heritage Park was completely waterlogged, Spennymoor played a home game five miles away on a very sound surface.

What frustrates me is that they knew what the issue was last season so why didn't they address it in the summer rather than waste thousands completely renewing the playing surface.

Is there no way we can do what Fc United are doing and use other grounds such as Durham, Spennymoor etc.

Do you know if we paid for the new surface & have you any idea how much the drainage would cost?

I also had a look over today and as stated in an earlier post the pitch looked fine with no standing water even with last night's snow shower. So why were Bishops last two games called off.

Today's BBC forecast looks fine, but some forking and covering may be wise.
