Popular Front of Judea or Judean Popula Front?
Popular Front of Judea or Judean Popula Front?
................Typical just when you thought the various Darlo Fans groups had all come together I see a new Group has just been formed in Aycliffe! Good luck to them I guess but does seem there might be some duplication, and wonder if Darlington FC Supporters Group could have helped with the transport issues they have highlighted had they been asked?

I see nothing wrong with the Aycliffe Supporters Group. All they are doing is meeting up as Darlo fans to talk about Darlo over a few beers.

Re: Popular Front of Judea or Judean Popula Front?
I actually think having more satellite groups in orbit around the club is a good thing. DAFTS, Darlo Tykes, and even Uncovered are fans groups who all do a great job in clumping fans together like this new one wants to, and I think it's a good time to start one there - just as the black & white tide is starting to turn back to Darlo.
Their first meeting seemed to go down well - one of their main topics being to arrange transport between themselves, but they also discussed about fund-raising and how to get their local youngsters more interested in the club.
I think it would be great if we had more local groups like this, helping to engage lapsed and new fans in their local areas... and help make it as easy as possible for them to come to our home games and fund-raisers.

My opening comment was tongue in cheek! I agree it is horses for courses but hope they don't neglect the resources/support the DFCSG and other groups might be able to offer them. The bit about involving kids is great.
Re: Popular Front of Judea or Judean Popula Front?
The key is that all groups are joined up.
I have no idea if the newly merged supporters group meet regularly but if they do, a representative from each of the satellite groups should be present.

I think attendance at the fund-raisers group meeting in the Dolphin Centre on the first Monday of each month would be a good idea.divas wrote:The key is that all groups are joined up.

Yeah its a good thing if it helps keep supporters involved and potentially bring new fans in. I know Blyth have a supporters group in Cannock which travel to games as a group etc and they have great links with other supporters groups from other teams.

I see no harm myself. Having groups of supporters in towns and villages in the area meeting in a pub to discuss the club, fund raising activities transport and trying to drum up more support can only be good. As long as they stay part of the family and not splinter off which I'm already happy to say there's constant communication going on all ready

Many much bigger clubs have supporters club branches all over the place. This is very good and I hope they go from strength to strength.

Local groups promote shared socialising, mutual help and fundraising.
Socialising is the best glue to keep such groups functioning.
This is the ethos of the DAFTS, who usually travelled far to support their club at several hundred games and have aided the club disproportionally in terms of share, ticket, lottery, sponsorship, merchandise and donation income.
It is too difficult for "someone at the club" to cater for the localised needs, wishes and foibles of Darlo fans here, there and everywhere. Darlo fans by definition are more independently minded & dedicated than the mere fanciers of the big time charley clubs.

Why do you state your view as fact all the time? Really weird.Neil Johnson wrote:Local groups promote shared socialising, mutual help and fundraising.

I do agree like the tykes used to get a box at the stadium for a game or two and treat it as a social thing which can only be good for the club.

What's happened to the tykes? Don't seem to hear much of them recently?

Re: Popular Front of Judea or Judean Popula Front?
This will be the first time in 16 years we have'nt arranged anything in regards to sponsoring a match, ball, players or arranging forums. And it's probably down to me been so sick of Bishop Auckland and the fact that the cost in arranging transport to get people from Northallerton to Bishop means that what we have to charge to raise any funds makes it a very expensive day out for everybody .So to be honest I just not bothered this season, the motivation for me to do anything at Bishop had gone, and I apologize to the people who have asked me to arrange things.
I just feel as if when we are back at home I'll be ready to start pushing it along again and start arranging sponsored games, balls, forums in town and helping this football club of ours.So please do not worry the Tykes are still around supporting our club.

Good news that the Northallerton Tykes Group will be back on song (not musically of course).Darlo_Pete wrote:How is Russell, I heard that he wasn't very well and it's been a while since I've seen him at a game?strangetown wrote:This will be the first time in 16 years we have'nt arranged anything in regards to sponsoring a match, ball, players or arranging forums. Re: Popular Front of Judea or Judean Popula Front?
DAFTS gathered 600 addresses from exiled Darlo Fans and supporters mostly around the UK back in the 90's. There was a lot of surprises about where these exiles had neighbouring Darlo fans (e.g. in rural West Sussex).fozzovmurton wrote:Would love to see an East Durham Supporters branch, but it would just end up being a 1 man band....Me
We had unforeseen hot spots in such places as Leicestershire, Bath, Nottingham where exiles shared travel to games, often socialising in the DAFTS designated pubs when games were away from home.
I suggest that fans from areas like Weardale, Sedgefield, Richmond, Teesdale could start threads on Uncovered, to see if there are possibilities of locally run socialising, shared travel, fundraising etc.
Some pub meetings can be the initial way of discussing possibilities and establishing means of regular contact (e.g. E-mail / SMS / FB messages)
Like DAFTS the local supporter groups can be fully associated to the club and other supporters groups, without being a burden to, or being dependent on others.
