All the DFC Official News threads

Post by Darlogramps » Mon Aug 17, 2015 10:19 am

Is there any way these could be merged into one thread and then perhaps stickied?

The board is getting littered with links to articles, some of which aren't actually news in any instance.

I've got nothing wrong with the club promoting articles on here, but possibly there's a better way of doing it without cluttering up the board. It seems to be spamming the board at the minute.

Although if people aren't that fussed then leave it as it is.

Id agree, its a bit annoying, especially as I've already seen them on the official site.

I disagree.

I like the fact that you can easily see what has been released on the official site and each thread creates a self-contained bubble for discussion.

I don't understand why people would object to such threads. You don't have to click on them and the traffic is not great on here nowadays.

It's not like the infamous RoH threads which encouraged more (nonsense) posts.

Ill use the sponsor a goal thread as one example, theres a sticky in this very forum.

Another, the season ticket IT 'trick' as its only for season ticket holders, and you cant buy a season ticket anymore, then it should have been communicated to them directly, or just kept as a news article on the official site, a separate thread for it here is pointless.

Another, the match report didnt need a separate thread, nor did MGs assessment, which could have been added to the match report thread at the very least.

I created the account / system in order to automate a job charlie was doing by hand.

So I hope there's at least one poster who likes what it's doing :D

Agree with Henley. Good to see when something has been released by the club, and discussion on that particular issue can follow within the thread.

Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

In case you missed the news item, the official website is up to over 300 000 hits which is great for getting sponsorship for the site.

As for the season ticket IT trick, I hear first hand folk complaining they didn't see anything when the club has issued news releases before, I really don't think a link from here is over doing it.
As for the sponsor a goal news item release, read above, it worked.

Personally I'm grateful to Mikky for the new feature

The subjects covered by DFC Official News are quite often very varied and if it was all in in thread then it would be impossible to follow all the stories. I actually agree with Henley, now I don't say that very often.

Eh? It just has to run on cron every fifteen minutes, download the RSS from the official site, parse the XML, spot any story posted within the last fifteen minutes, log itself into the forum (in a manner which doesn't interfere with the functionality of the underlying framework), and post the topic.

How hard can it be? :eh:

No one is moaning about anything. A question was asked and others have answered it.

Personally preferred it when the threads were created manually by someone and links to website were added when it was something that people wanted to discuss. Feels a bit like spam even though I am interested in a number of the threads, just not all of them.

However seems majority of responders don't mind, so I guess it works for most people.

Simple Sue, if for example a post goes up on something as earlier on and someone asks a question about it that its answered by someone in the know

Someone in the know doesn't automatically mean they are a club rep, and your still not going to get official repsonses on here so I'm not quite sure what your asking for

Stop being such a drama queen.

Questions have been asked. Answers have been given. Why are you trying to make a big drama out of it by having a pop at people asking legitimate questions?

P.S. Can you sort your grammar out too? It's "they're" not "their".
