ALAN WHITE ~ HERO or VILLAIN?

Great important goals earlier in the season. Defence has a leader when he plays

Clumsy tackle today, giving the chance for referee to make the penalty decision.

Having a 'word' with the officials at the end. Instant red card!
Just in time to coincide with Hunter's ban! Great timing!

Why didn't one (of the many) management team get to White (before his verbals) and get him off the pitch. It was highly predictable what he was going to do ~ serial offender.
I hope he didn't manage to have'another word' in the bar to the ref or he may be missing for the rest of 2015.

Then White wants to pick a fight with some fans who thought his behaviour after the final whistle was unacceptable (but not surprising).

Overall, anaemic display today. Marine looked likely to win it for most of the 2nd half.

Conduct on the pitch - unacceptable.

Conduct from fans in stand - unacceptable. They need to have more respect for White given his overall contribution to Darlo over the years. No need for the abuse.

ALAN WHITE ~ HERO or VILLAIN?.................. both.

But todays behaviour was stupid stupid stupid

Football is a team game, and by getting a completely unnecessary red card/ban he's going to make things difficult - for the team.

In hindsight this might have been an option, but does our most senior player need tying to a sack barrow, muzzling, and escorted from the pitch as if he's Hannibal Lecter?

Anyone else no but seeing as it's White then certainly!

I do expect better but he is not going to change unfortunately so we either play him and suffer the consequences or don't and complain were loose at the back

The classic catch 22

He's still very much in credit as far as I'm concerned. We've had so much from him during his time with us that the crazy moments should be forgiven, frustrating though they are.

With White it is simply that its avoidable. He hasn't any need to gob off all the time.

Bet he was a nightmare child.

Whitey was sent off for pushing the linesman after the full time whistle and it was thoroughly deserved there was just no need to go over and do that, there isn't anyone who can control him he is just a liability at times

If that is true, his ban would be significantly longer than 3 games.

He's certainly exasperating, you never know which Alan White is going to turn up, So like Dave says, he's both.

Could be worse. Chimp chokers best player got a six match ban for gozzing on a Wycombe fan.

Alan if you're reading this go and chin the fuckers twisting. I for one love you in a mans way not a womans way. If you held back people would twist for you being soft!

His actions after the match were inexcusable. A very good player on the pitch, but no matter how unjust you feel the penalty decision was, or whatever else caused the anger, you can not push an official.

Alan White, always gives his all for his home town club, for me hero albeit with a slight flaw, take the flaw out and it wouldn't be Alan White ,stay as you are Alan ,
The fans that threw bile at you yesterday, then had the audacity to ridicule you need to look at themselves first and foremost ,unacceptable from fans to players no matter what level your playing at or supporting, learning curve all round, let us stick together and get through it together.onwards and upwards.

For me hero on the pitch gives all for this club and he's been class this season scored important goals but he's a liability at the moment he needs to calm down and respect officials deserved to get sent off for pushing a linesman he's let the team down and the fans and that fan he had a go at was right to voice his concern is thought we pay to watch them he needs to book his attitude down sharp as don't want his status at Darlo legend and hero to go down the pan with fans shouting at him

Can't believe the title of this thread hero or villain really??? How many points has the lad won us this season alone playing up top everyone loved him then. What you see is what you get a DARLINGTON born lad playing for his hometown club wearing his heart on his sleeve. His will to win is beyond doubt id much rather he played for us than against us.

Maybe he stumbled into the back of the winger, but putting two hands into his back wasnt a bright move. P.S. Where were the rest of the "defence"?

It was a very soft penalty - bordering on cheating the way their player chucked himself to the floor - although White should no better than to put his hands up there. However, the push I was referring to was the one on the linesman after the final whistle.

I wouldn't disagree with any of the above, however I feel it misses the point - Alan aggressively pushed one of the officials after the final whistle.

That's ridiculously stupid.

There is no doubt that it's true, for one thing, I witnessed it!

I don't think anyone can condone pushing an official of that there is no doubt. Whitey would be the first to admit it was wrong. However the abuse towards one player and then further abuse on twitter all aimed at one twitter goes to far.

Hero.

Wish I was him. Darlo man like me. Good enough to play professional football. Giving his last few years playing for the club we love.

This whole debate is pretty pointless. Let's face it, at his age you ain't gonna change him, so you either accept him, warts and all, or you dump him. I know which camp I'm in.

Hero ... more raw meat before each game.

Some of the officials at this level need more than a push ...

While we are on the subject of aggression ... with the exception of Armstrong (possibly the hap hazard Scott) we need a few more physicals threats on the field. Week in week out we are seeing that these teams carry a couple of enforcers.

I've just seen the penalty decision on the "highlights" - the more times I watched it, the worse it got - White hardly touches him and he collapses in a heap, a right con job

Doesn't excuse the after match incident though.

Yeah, it's terrible.

At the time I was of the opinion that by doing that you leave yourself open to the penalty to be awarded, but having watched it back, it's not even a push, White puts out his arms and that's it, no push at all for me. If you're going to give penalties for contact with arms in the box then there'd be 20 per game

I don't think the Marine players were even appealing for it. Look at the No 7 in the picture, who's the nearest one, he looks as surprised as anyone when he turns to look at the ref. Extremely poor refereeing.
